It’s time for our weekly digest of tiny iPhone reviews, courtesy of iPhoneTiny.com, with some extra commentary exclusive to Cult of Mac.
This time, we review Asteroid Panic (iPad), Dizzypad, Doppelgänger, PapiJump for iPad, and Super Turbo Action Pig.
APP OF THE WEEK
Super Turbo Action Pig: One-thumb iCopter-like survival game with fantastic art direction and loads of humour. 4/5 Free http://is.gd/bJEC2
Asteroid Panic (iPad): Silent Asteroids-inspired tap-based survival shooter. Has potential but feels like a demo 2/5 Free http://is.gd/bJJpt
Dizzypad: Nice-looking one-thumb game, but plays like a cross of Frogger and Star Trigon without the depth. 2/5 $1.99 http://is.gd/bIjfP
Doppelgänger: Nice-looking pairs game, but lives system frustrating & progress too reliant on luck. 2/5 $0.99 http://is.gd/bODPP
PapiJump for iPad: Bog-standard vertical platformer. Cute but better on iPhone screen than iPad’s acres of space 2/5 Free http://is.gd/bLIxF
Super Turbo Action Pig didn’t have much competition this week, but the porcine superhero nonetheless deserves to shine. The game’s essentially an iCopter-style game, but what makes it worth a download (or a buck when it’s not free) is the fantastic cartoon graphics, the great handling, and the finite length of the game. I’m not sure what happens when our bacon-flavoured chum manages to secure five golden sausages, and what then becomes of his mortal enemy, the evil Butcher Bill, but I’ll keep playing until I find out—and I recommend you do, too.
