Tweetbot 2 for Mac was a long awaited update to Tapbots’ fantastic Twitter app, bringing a host of new functionality and a flat, Yosemite-friendly redesign to fans. But it wasn’t exactly a finished release, as Macworld’s review makes clear.

But Tapbots is not a developer to leave things half-done. They have just released Tweetbot 2.0.1 for Mac, and it’s so ahead of the curve it supports a feature even Twitter hasn’t delivered on yet.

As the first incremental update, you won’t find a mile-long list of changes, but you will find a slew of bug fixes, including one that could crash the app when mentioning a fellow user, as well as one that struck when you were uploading a new profile photo.

The big two feature updates are support for Twitter’s new “quote tweet” functionality, which allows you to fully quote a tweet, while also replying in 140 characters or less. It also supports Twitter’s new ability to support nearly endless DM, which I’d call “ahead of the curve:” even Twitter’s not directly supporting it yet.

What does that mean? When Twitter turns their new DM function on, it’ll immediately work on Tweetbot 2.

Tweetbot 2.0.1 for Mac also speeds up the process of switching between your Twitter accounts, useful if you have more than one.

You can purchase Tweetbot 2 for Mac at an introductory price of $12.99 at the link below.
