Apple to Sell 10 Billionth iTunes Song Wednesday

Apple to Sell 10 Billionth iTunes Song Wednesday

Nice that it looks like Apple will give some lucky punter $10,000 in iTunes gift card on Steve Jobs’ birthday.

The counter looks close to reaching the magic number today — remember you can also enter the contest without buying anything here.

Just check to make sure your country is eligible — outside the U.S. about 20 are including Canada (parts), Mexico, Japan Australia and a handful of European countries.

Downloaders seem to be buying at alarming rates, if the ticker is accurate, and all of the top downloaded songs are a lot more recent that seven-year-old iTunes. The top five right now : “I Gotta Feeling” (Black Eyed Peas) followed by “Pokerface” (Lady Gaga) “Boom Boom Pow” (Black Eyed Peas) and “I’m Yours” (Jason Mraz) and “Viva la Vida” (Coldplay).

    A lot of articles are saying, “the company has promised to award whomever downloads the 10 billionth song a $10,000 iTunes gift card.”

    This is not correct. “The winner is selected at a random draw after the ten billionth download has been reached. When you download a song from the iTunes Store, your iTunes Store account will automatically be eligible to win a $10,000 iTunes gift. Just go to the iTunes Store, browse your favorite music, and either buy a song or download a song for free.”

    If you’d like to know where I got this information: Apple, Inc.

    I am not sure how Apple thinks, but $10,000 for one person to reach 10 billion downloads? That is their reward? a measly 10,000? out of 10 billion?
    And who in the world wants 10,000 songs, specially if he is a music guy he already has most of what he wants. Then, out of millions only 1 person will win? The odds are probably less than the lottery

    They at least should have made it $100,000(thats like the monthly cost of sugar cubes for their employees daily coffee) and offered $100 gift cards , you have 1000 winners, and 100 songs is not bad at all. 1000 happy people or 1 extremely lucky person, which is better?

    @DCJ001,

    You might want to check your facts next time.

    “The prize will be awarded for the entry (either through a song download or through the non-purchase online entry) sent immediately following the download of the 9,999,999,999th song”

    “In the event that more than one entrant would be a winner based on the simultaneous timing of entries, one entrant will be randomly selected from those entrants as the winner.”
