HealthKit’s supposed to make it easier to stay healthy. This app doesn’t care about your health. It wants you to die, and it’s going to tell you exactly when that will happen.

The app is called Deadline, and it’s not much different from those death calculators you see online. You just load up the app, fill out a short quiz, and then Deadline taps into iOS 8’s Healthkit functionality to create a timer that counts away towards your death.

What makes Deadline slightly different from other morbid death calculators is that, since it taps into Healthkit, you can conceivably work out hard enough and live an active enough life to increase the duration of your life. Most of these calculators inexorably start ticking time off your life the moment you set them; this one, at least in theory, can go up too.

Of course, these death calculators are all failed prophecies waiting to happen, so how much value they actually provide is widely debatable. But if you need a kick in the pants to live a healthier life, a constant reminder of your rapidly encroaching mortality could very well help.

Deadline costs $0.99 on the iOs App Store.
