Twitterrific For iOS Finally Gets Push Notifications In Latest 5.2 Update

There’s no denying that Twitterrific 5 is a beautiful third-party Twitter client for the iPhone and iPad, but the app has been lacking a huge feature until today: push notifications. Now that push has become an expected feature in modern Twitter apps, it was only a matter of time before The Iconfactory added it to their app.

You can get push notifications for new mentions, direct messages, favorites, retweets, and followers. The catch is that only 1,000 Twitterrific users will get access to the feature initially. Availability will be then rolled out gradually to new users.

The Iconfactory encourages users who don’t have access to push to “try again in a few days” until it works. The reason for the slow rollout is that push notifications require intensive server power. You can try to enable notifications under the Settings panel in the new version of the app. Push will have to be re-enabled for each Twitter account you use.

There are a lot of other additions in this 5.2 update, including:

  • User banners now display on profile pages
  • Discussions can now be shared via email or Storify
  • Added Droplr thumbnails to the timeline
  • Text size of muffled items scales according to theme settings
  • The timeline can now display up to 600 tweets (was 400)
  • Additional actions, like muffling, are available when avatars are hidden
  • New compose shortcut: type “@” after username to prevent autocomplete
  • Load more button now animates while loading new tweets in the timeline
  • Improved behavior when restoring selected timeline with multiple accounts
  • Improved formatting when emailing a tweet or group of tweets
  • Improved performance when rotating display on iPhone/iPod
  • Improved display performance when muffling many items
  • Multiple in-app notifications no longer overlap
  • Various changes to make VoiceOver less verbose
  • Various other UI tweaks

Twitterrific costs $3 in the App Store.
