Get Free 4G Data On Your iPhone With This $99 Case [Video]

Soon there will be a way to get 4G data on your current iPhone.

4G mobile broadband provider FreedomPop has started taking preorders for a $99 case/sleeve that gives free 4G data speeds to an iPhone 4/4S. Backed by Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom, iPhone owners who purchase FreedomPop’s case will be given 500MB of free 4G data each month. Full data packages will also be sold in the future, but those details have not been given at this time.

We know what you’re asking: Will this thing actually work? Take a look at this video and find out:

FreedomPop isn’t actually supplying the 4G internet, but instead using Clearwire’s WiMax network. The case plugs into the iPhone’s dock connector and automatically shows up under “WiFi” in the Settings app.

While it’s a neat idea, this seems like more of a test run to determine if there’s really a market for such a product. Considering Apple’s next-gen iPhone is expected to feature LTE networking speeds, FreedomPop may see less demand than anticipated. There is, however, a market for current iPhone owners who want a little kick of extra speed.

The case is expected to ship by late summer. You can preorder one from FreedomPop’s website.

    No market?!

    FREE. FRICKING. DATA.
Five hundred megabytes is five bucks a month, according to the telecoms. In a year, the case has almost paid for itself.

Is there anyway to use this to replace one’s current data package, and just pay for talk/text?

Yah, if you take your iPhone to a pre-paid network, and disable data connection on your iPhone

Wow your 3G networks suck 1Mb on AT&T seriously, I get between 3-5Mb on Three in the UK and in 1 spot 7-11Mb on my 4S.

Screw that cancel / downgrade to the lowest possible plan’s and use VOIP, iMessage, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp messenger to stick it to the man.

It might be a nice replacement for my mophie pack plus but it doesn’t protect the phone very well. I don’t drop my phone but I can’t predict the presence of a klutz that may inadvertently knock the aphone out of my hand. it reminds me of the first generation of mophie that was batter but also no front protect or top protect to the phone itself. It does look promising though for a first generation. :)

Interesting. 500 mbs isnt a lot. But if ur already on AT&T’s current 300MB, then this is more than brilliant

New mobile service company will be providing unlimited nationwide voice, text and 4G data service for $49 a month and pays consumers for referring people to the service.

Promoters get paid by gaining new wireless subscribers on a monthly basis and with bonuses.
