hey everyone today I'm gonna show you
0:06
can delete some of the default Mac OS 10
0:08
applications so when you get your Mac
0:10
there might be some apps installed that
0:12
you never use and that you don't really
0:15
want and if you try to delete them by
0:18
going up into the finder and into your
0:20
Applications folder and let's say I
0:22
tried to delete something like QuickTime
0:23
Player I put it in the trash it's gonna
0:25
tell me it can't be modified or deleted
0:26
because it's required by Mac os10
0:29
now some of these apps for example
0:32
photobooth stickies they all do the same
0:34
thing they tell you they can't be
0:36
deleted they actually can be ruined
0:38
well some of them like Safari are
0:40
critical to the system performing the
0:42
way it should be and aren't really
0:44
recommended to be deleted so I
0:46
originally ran across a post on OS 10
0:49
daily that showed a terminal way to
0:52
delete these apps and I'll show you that
0:53
here because it's actually pretty handy
0:55
so if you open up a new terminal window
0:58
you're going to want to go to your
0:59
Applications folder so I'm gonna type in
1:01
the CD space slash applications and
1:05
slash again now I'm in my Applications
1:08
folder now whatever application I want
1:11
to delete I can use the Sam command for
1:13
over and over so I'm just gonna do a
1:15
quick backup of stickies here so that
1:17
it's not deleted and I'm going to type
1:20
in sudo space RM space dash RF space and
1:27
then stickies that app so now if I hit
1:33
enter you're going to see it asked me
1:35
for my password let's write that in and
1:37
the applications gone from my
1:39
Applications folder so I can move
1:41
stickies back into here and this this
1:44
solution works pretty well actually and
1:46
it's it's very fast but the only issue
1:48
with it is working with commands like
1:51
sudo are pretty deep system level
1:54
commands and if you you know type the
1:56
wrong thing and you don't know what
1:57
you're doing you could kind of mess
1:59
things up and if you're just kind of a
2:01
new user with terminal it's probably not
2:04
something you want to be messing with so
2:06
I actually found a way that you can do
2:07
this using completely the finder and
2:09
nothing else this example I'm going to
2:11
use QuickTime Player
2:12
but this works the same for all the
2:14
default apps that you want to delete so
2:17
all I have to do is right click on it
2:18
and select get info and in this quick
2:20
time player info box you can see the
2:22
issue as to why it won't delete and that
2:26
is because the sharing and permissions
2:27
section for the default apps is set up
2:30
so that it can't be deleted so all I
2:32
have to do is click on this lock button
2:33
right here and it's gonna ask me for my
2:35
password again and once I have that
2:37
entered I can change all these
2:39
privileges to read and write so this
2:41
will allow full system access to all
2:43
these and then I can click the lock icon
2:45
again so now you can see when I drag
2:47
QuickTime Player to the trash it goes
2:49
down there and it goes in the trash
2:51
without any complaining at all and you
2:53
can empty the trash and you'll be just
2:54
fine so that's all there is to it and
2:56
it's a very easy way that you can do
2:58
this right in finder so there's how you
3:01
can delete your default system apps in
3:02
Mac OS 10 and once again it's not
3:04
recommended to do this for things like
3:06
Safari because some of the components in
3:08
them are kind of required by the system
3:10
and some functionality you might be
3:12
missing if you do that but for other
3:14
ones like stickies and things like that
3:16
photobooth it's just fine if there's
3:18
anything that you'd like to see me do a
3:19
how-to one make sure to send me an email
3:21
I hope you found this video useful and
3:23
thank you for watching
