1:02
but look at that big beautiful mustache joining us today the stash look at that thing holy moly let's get that thing on
1:09
full screen that's the wrong button we got Graham Bower joining us today the
1:14
legendary Graham Bower do you put rosemary oil on that thing Graham that is a work of
1:23
art what the the test you mean oh yeah you know oh no it's just it's just on
1:29
natural okay all right well I'm impressed I'd have to rub rosemary oil on my lip for weeks to get something
1:35
like that going you know encourage that hair I can't I can't compete with Griffin on the hair so I'm I'm aiming
1:41
for a kind of a serving facial hair looks instead you know yeah maybe I should grow like a chin strap or
1:46
something remember those from the 90s then you add us all together and then we'll be some horrible moner very
1:54
very hairy person you know what I lack here and up
2:00
there I definitely make make up for it right here which I think ultimately is where it counts the
2:05
most all right well enough of that um we got a really exciting story well series
2:13
of stories for you guys this week um we got some hot news I'm sure you're all aware which is why you're all filing in
2:21
and we'll talk about next week's Mac announcements I hope your wallets are ready my friends I hope your wallets are
2:27
ready I was just thinking today oh my goodness it's going to be an expensive month or
2:32
two how many dozen Mac minis are you g to buy uh approximately zero although I
2:37
did consider buying maybe one but they're so many you can just fit them everywhere yeah the problem is their
2:43
price isn't going to be so many I don't think and uh for me it would be like a glorified email machine so I'm like yeah
2:50
I can't do this I think I know exactly what I'm buying I think I know exactly what I'm buying well there's there's one
2:56
detail that I haven't figured out yet what what were you gonna say Graham or uh can you tweet the Tweet oh yes yes
3:02
yes yes thank you let's get this tweet tweeted I know you already did it on Mason so like this tweet is pretty much
3:09
pointless but let's go ahead and send it out anyway boom
3:16
okay Graham do you know who I'm emulating in my boom voice
3:22
any guesses no is is that is that a Steve
3:28
Jobs boom that's good guess but no no who who are you being the British guy I
3:33
wasn't sure if you would know it's popular sitcom from the 90s boom
3:40
what's the deal with the Mac I I don't get who wants a computer that
3:47
space nothing huh okay well you know what I was just curious have you heard of Jerry
3:55
Seinfeld no you've never you've never heard of Jerry Seinfeld I truly
4:00
impressed wa wait sorry I I miss I misheard you no of course I'm I'm I'm obsessed with with Seinfeld and Curb
4:06
Your Enthusiasm of course okay well now I don't know what to
4:13
believe the boom was too realistic I think we threw him off oh let's give him a chance here chat
4:19
let's give him a chance he'll come around I mean he knows Kirby enthusiasm so that's got to go in his favor right
4:25
okay let's go ahead and uh queue up Mrs d and we'll get this thing
4:31
rolling and Mrs [Applause] D oh look at that beautiful mustache oh
4:39
my we got Graham on the lam I didn't even realize that oh my dear I should
4:45
invite him to one of my Suarez with elcy oh my goodness Graham you better watch out she likes you and she likes that
4:51
mustache and I don't blame her Mrs D we don't want to hear about that and we definitely don't want to hear what you got going on with elcy if you don't mind
4:59
let's just let go ahead and get this show rolling we got a lot of Apple news to talk about I got the music all queued
5:04
up get your larynx warmed up and we'll have this thing rolling in three
5:10
two hello and welcome to the coast the best 30 plus minute Apple conversation
5:15
you're going to hear all week long I'm your host air Li join me today when not riding for a CAC
5:22
you'll find him installing security cameras and booby traps around his rural Ohio compound just in case Lis Wallace
5:30
comes for an unexpected visit here's the writer for cat Griffin Jones is here
5:35
good evening I'm going to be sad when I lose my first it will be gone and uh also
5:41
joining us another escaped CAC Rider his count his country is tough on extradition laws though which has
5:48
spoiled Le Wall's attempts to bring him back to the cult M Ridder cage for some re-education quote unquote I guess
5:55
former but also current writer of culac I've learned gr Bowers is
6:01
here hello I was going to say he waved but I don't think he uh thought that
6:07
through since it's the most ofly audio podcast oh man so before we officially
6:13
started this is the first time that Graham and I have ever spoken to each other and uh which I was surprised by
6:21
because how long have you been riding with CAC Graham I mean years it could be
6:26
10 10 years or or almost since the beginning just after the wide days you know oh really you've been there for
6:33
that so you preceded me possibly yeah definitely if it was after the wied days you definitely
6:39
preceded me because camac was well established when I even started doing
6:45
anything with El key like he'd probably been solo for five six seven years I think right wow so did you know Leander
6:52
from wired uh I wrote a really terrible book a few years ago and uh Leander got in
6:59
touch with me about it we did an interview we got talking and I was doing a uh a Blog at the time called Mac
7:06
predictions and I was early on the Mac mockup scene you know before everyone
7:11
Mac mockup very Niche very nich scene I I created the Mac mockup scene I would
7:17
say and Leander wanted to use lots of my mock-ups and and that's how we we got to know each other no way and by the Mac
7:24
mockup scene I presume you mean like the images that people create when they hear
7:29
a rumor about a Mac and then they want to put it as like the lead image on a blog like C the Mac right I've done
7:35
stuff I did before the first MacBook Air came out I did a mockup of the MacBook Air and with the name and everything and
7:41
it hadn't been announced and I even guessed the name and so that got a huge amount of traction and I was doing loads
7:48
of them back then I you know I I I've told Griffin this before but a couple of years before the uh the fifth generation
7:55
iPod Nano came out the one with a little square screen I did a mockup of that and I I think that Apple copied my designs
8:02
to be honest oh man they copy so much from this show it wouldn't surprise me at all Avid listeners half the
8:09
industrial design team listens so they're up for any good idea
8:14
that we have to throw out and there have been things that we've talked about which have literally come to fruition like months later so I'm I'm certain
8:20
that not only is Tim Cook listening he's taking notes all right look we got a
8:25
huge show this week you probably heard by now you've probably all heard for the new Max they are coming next week it's
8:33
going to be Christmas come early it looks like TC has a series of announcements that he will be personally
8:38
making via a lot of uh heavily produced videos that will be leaked out over the
8:44
uh duration of the week I'm going to guess Monday through Wednesday is when everything will start dropping so that we have enough time to like or so they
8:50
have enough time to like get in the Press uh so we'll talk about all that stuff before we dive
8:56
in we have a new sponsor with a service that I immediately fell in love with and
9:04
I think you all are really G to like it's gonna if you'll give me just a moment to to to fill you in it's going
9:09
to take a little bit of explanation but once I explain it to you I think you're going to want to try it out so our
9:16
sponsor this week is incog data broker removal service now before you go and
9:22
you're like I don't want to listen to another spot let me tell you about my experience with
9:27
incog they let you take back control of your personal information and reduce the risk of spam scams and identity theft
9:35
have you ever wondered how people get access to your phone number your
9:41
emails and and do the robo calls and send you spam emails sometimes like you get the weirdest Communications my phone
9:48
is constantly ringing and I'm like how do these people get my phone number how do they know what services to try to
9:53
sell me the answer to that question is data Brokers there is like this massive huge data sales industry of data Brokers
10:02
that collect your data store it many times insecurely and then just buy and
10:08
sell your data across all these different databases your address your
10:14
phone number uh your uh browsing history
10:19
uh all sorts of personal information about you that you would never think that they would have access to like your
10:27
your uh uh sexual references I mean just all sorts of stuff and then all this
10:33
information is bought and sold and that's how a lot of uh of these marketing Services get your information
10:39
they get it from data Brokers well it's not just marketing firms that are trying
10:45
to get your data it's nefarious actors like people who are trying to steal your identity like all sorts of stuff about
10:51
you is floating out there that people can get freely through these data services or Buy and they can use it to
10:58
steal your identity take credit cards in your name incog allows you to take back control of your
11:05
data do I have this open here um let me pull this up and I'll go into browser mode here real fast oh here we go I got
11:12
it right here it's really interesting so you give them some information about you you give them permission to act on your
11:18
behalf and then they go and they they demand that all your data be pulled from
11:25
all these different data services because legally if you make a request to have your data pulled from these data
11:32
services they have to take them out and so I signed up for it and they give you
11:38
like this really cool breakdown of all the databases that have information about you and will go on your behalf and
11:45
demand that that data be removed and they'll show you how many requests that
11:50
they have made how much hours of time they think that they're saving You by doing this data cleanup on your behalf
11:57
so for me they're saying that I would save 67 hours by by contacting all these different data Brokers they'll tell you
12:04
where in the process they are with these data Brokers if the data Brokers fight to not delete the stuff they'll act on
12:09
your behalf and they remove everything all addresses your names um details
12:15
about you and if you're watching you could see me scroll through this list Pages upon Pages upon pages of people
12:21
who have data about me personal data I went down a major Rabbit Hole last night
12:27
to try to uh figure out who had data about me and
12:33
it was crazy I just didn't know that any of this stuff existed and if you want to
12:41
limit the amount of data that is available about you out there if you want to make sure well reduce the um the
12:50
ability for nefarious actors to get your data and act to open credit cards on
12:56
your behalf and to do other nefarious actions in your life I think that you
13:04
guys should try incog they have a really great deal that I'm trying to open because I accidentally closed it here um
13:11
just a moment ago because we were having so many technical issues whoops and uh let me just open this up and I'll tell
13:17
you because you'll get up to 60% off when you use um our URL R URL and our code you're
13:28
clearly going to have to edit some some of this out Griffin as I struggle to open this back up yeah um say that i'
13:33
I've been waiting for one of these services to sponsor the show because I've I've wanted to use them like very
13:39
desperately like I I try to not leave a digital paper trail and I these services are incredible yeah I was shocked when I
13:46
saw how much data was available about me out there and not just data about me like my family kids names spouse's names
13:53
addresses for my parents I mean all sorts of crazy stuff just floating out there that people can have access to
13:59
so if you want to try it out take your personal data back with incog use code
14:05
cultcast at the link below and get 60% off an annual plan which is a massive discount it's incognit
14:12
domcom that's I nc.com cultcast let me see if I can
14:18
bring this up actually um so you can see what it looks like and you can try it out and if you don't like it um they
14:25
have a 30-day money back guarantee and they will give you your money back so it's completely risk-free but I think
14:30
you'll be shocked I think you'll be shocked how much data is out there and
14:36
what kind of data is available um for you and your family and um it's really
14:42
cool they act on your behalf and then they continue acting on your behalf to make sure that these databases don't get any more of your data and sell it so
14:48
that's incog domcom cast and um make sure you use
14:55
code cultcast um when you're when you're um checking outs to get 60% off an
15:00
annual plan okay let's move on I recovered from uh all my closed all my
15:06
closed tabs I think for the most part let's talk about the max coming next week I'm going to send it over to you
15:12
Graham to tell us about expectations and the news that happened today and this
15:18
week they take it away right yeah okay so this one is really hot off the press I mean it was just a couple of hours ago
15:24
the wait is over and we're not having a Mac event uh it's a non event so Apple's
15:31
senior VP of worldwide marketing uh Greg wak uh Jaws uh sorry Greg joak it sounds
15:40
too much like wak it's unbelievable coincidence yes I knew I was gonna flp
15:46
that because it wasak is kind wnc is kind of a unique name and for him to be
15:51
an apple executive and then have a name that sounds so familiar is an unbelievable coincidence right exactly
15:57
and I'm so to Phil Shiller it's still you know I'm I'm catching up right so
16:03
anyway he posted on X um the most terrible pun I've ever seen ma your
16:09
calendars which I think is supposed to mean mark your calendars such a bad pun he used a smiley like a winky Smiley you
16:16
know I kind of liked it I'll be H do they have you liked it lik team they
16:23
they they hire thousand if if if Lewis Wallace has got a team of writers in a
16:28
cave how many people does Greg have in a cage that could write this stuff for him and
16:34
he writes that Ma your calendars exciting week of announcements ahead starting on Monday morning stay tuned so
16:41
this is a bit of a turn up for the books right we were expecting an event and instead we have a week of press releases
16:48
and I don't personally I'm actually feeling kind of good about that because I think those those events they're not
16:55
really events right that they're like a an infomercial they're an infomercial and then certain select people from the
17:00
Press get invited to a kind of encounter Zone at the Steve Jobs Thea and they get
17:06
you know glad hand Tim Cook but for the rest of us it's actually quite a boring infomercial and I think this one they
17:13
maybe realized would be particularly boring because you know if if past ons
17:18
or anything to go by they would repeat the specs of the M4 each time they announce a new piece of ma cardware and
17:25
it would just be I'm so glad I don't have to watch that to be honest because it would it would rot my brain so instead we're
17:32
going to have press releases and what he says starting Monday morning so I guess
17:37
they're going to drip drip driis this that it's some PR scheme to control the
17:42
new cycle Apple wants to be in the media all next week or like you said up on
17:49
probably you know Monday to Wednesday and I you know it it's a pretty pretty much a lock what we can expect Monday to
17:56
Wednesday right because there's there's three M4 Max that Mark I I was going to
18:02
say everyone tells us but really we Mark Gman tells us we can expect which is the M4 MacBook Pro the M4 Mac Mini and the
18:10
M4 iMac and if I was to guess you know that's Monday Tuesday and Wednesday press release that that that's how I
18:16
would see it going um the MacBook Pro is probably the the biggest news the Mac
18:23
Mini is maybe the funnest news because that will be the one that looks most different um and then the
18:29
Mac what colors will it be this time what else can we I oh of course there is the big thing of are the peripherals
18:36
finally going to switch to USBC or are we still going to have to endure this
18:41
bulcan IED plugs where we have some lightning connectors and some USB connectors I think at this point that I
18:47
will say one thing um my current my current trackpad is the doublea battery
18:53
magic track pad it has a crack in the along the front of it it's still smooth glass but uh let me just say I don't
18:59
want to have to buy another pair of ablea batteries for this thing I'm hoping that the batteries in here are
19:05
the last one I'll just be able to order a new magic Trackpad on Monday or Tuesday and I won't have to think about
19:12
doublea batteries ever again for the rest of my life I can't believe that Griffin because you literally live in an
19:17
apple Museum how can that be your trackpad do you not have every every
19:23
Apple input device that's ever been created you could you could be using like a an iMac
19:29
Bondi Bondi blue iMac Puck Mouse right now it's a good point griin you could be
19:35
that guy I'm just saying like it was a bad time to buy the magic Trackpad years ago
19:42
and it's still a bad time to buy the magic I'm not gonna buy a new lightning device in 2024 no way I shouldn't have
19:47
bought that in 2020 or 2018 I I surely next week is your week I mean you know
19:53
surely surely we're finally getting all the USBC peripherals of our dreams if if
19:58
nothing else that has to come next week I hope so it does seem like we will
20:05
complete the transition to uh USBC next week I can't say that conclusively because I couldn't enumerate for you
20:11
like all the things that still use lightning although I have personally replace all the devices in my life that
20:17
had lightning and now I only use USBC and it is I mean certainly a first world
20:24
convenience to say this but it is so Fring to not have to have like multiple
20:29
cables like now when I go places I still need two actually because you have to take your Apple watch charger but USBC
20:36
works for everything else and you only need to take like one charger and a couple of cables and like you're just good to
20:42
go right yeah I I I mean that I'm excited about that you know but I am
20:48
excited about the M4 MacBook Pro but I literally just the beginning of this year I bought an M3 Max MacBook Pro and
20:55
so although I'm happy for everyone I kind of you know I like it when I have the latest thing and so as of next week
21:02
I almost certainly won't have the latest thing and I'm I'm I'm fine with that but
21:07
I'm totally not fine with that clearly not fine with it at all yeah not fine with that this is this is the last few
21:13
days where I will have the most current MacBook or sorry Mac Mini iPhone and
21:18
Vision Pro which is a state that I will only exist in until Monday well you know
21:24
you never know like later in your life maybe you'll end up back here but it could be a while it's hard to stay across all the different devices
21:30
especially when they released a new Vision Pro so it sounds like maybe then I'm the only one thinking about getting the new
21:36
Mac buy the new Mac just review it but then I'll I'll return it at the end of the he he just admits it he doesn't even
21:43
try to hide that fact he's like I going to just buy it to review I could be tempted to buy the new Mac Mini depending on what they release but at
21:49
All Odds I'll be getting the 14-inch MacBook Pro which I'm extremely
21:55
conflicted about I don't know if 14 in is going to be large enough to allow for the intense
22:02
video editing I do on a daily basis but I say that jokingly because I barely
22:09
do any editing at all anymore but I do want to get back into it and I'm looking for the perfect compromise of
22:15
performance and portability I have the 16-inch MacBook Pro the M3 or the M1 and
22:22
such a beautiful machine but it's heavy man that thing is heavy I think it weighs like 5 and a half pounds actually
22:29
I don't know what it weighs I do think it's 5 and a half pounds though and the 14inch MacBook Pros are so lightweight
22:36
and dainty and easy to carry and yet incredibly powerful unless you're going
22:41
to be doing long exports in which case they throttle so bad that you lose a ton
22:46
of performance but the M4 is supposed to be a lot more efficient I think that there's hope that the difference in
22:53
performance between the 14 and the 16in versions won't be as big as they have been in past years because of the heat
22:58
problems that they have been having but I think it's worth the trade-off I think I'm going to just go with it and see how
23:06
I like it and I probably won't even notice that the reduction in performance to be honest with you and then that way I have a machine that's actually
23:12
portable the only question now is do I get space black or silver I really am
23:19
not a huge fan of space black although I got a space black phone and to be honest
23:24
that beautiful dark gray is growing on me I don't know if I want to live with dark gray forever I would have preferred
23:30
um space gray the black is a little bit too dark for me so now I just have to decide on the actual color you know when
23:38
you walk into a room and there's a different lighting and it takes you a couple of minutes for your eyes to
23:43
adjust and then you don't notice the difference and I got the the space black
23:49
uh M3 MacBook Pro okay and I noticed it for a couple of days and I was liking it I was like yeah new Mac and I I think I
23:57
picked the color because it was different because it really reinforced to me that it validated me for having
24:03
just blown that much money on this thing right that at least it looked different to my previous one um but it doesn't
24:09
look different now now I see it and it just looks aluminum it doesn't look it
24:14
doesn't look different I mean it's not black anyway right it's it's actually a very dark I don't I don't know why they
24:20
call it black and it's like my hair is black so I have space black hair and I have a space black mat right I would say
24:27
your hair is more like space silver I was hoping you were going to
24:32
say desert titanium desert titanium actually that also is apt I think I might have the space black hair I can't
24:38
tell uh actually don't have black hair cuz it is like a shade of dark brown and
24:44
my hair is the color I wish desert titanium was yeah I would go for that color as well sorry I didn't mean to
24:50
interrupt you Graham were you going somewhere before I completely rudely interrupt well no I was just saying now when I see I I walked into the Apple
24:56
store the other day and I saw the non space black MacBooks and say they look very light that's and before I
25:04
thought the mine looked very dark and so it's just it's what you adjust to and it doesn't look it looks like regular aluminum to me now it doesn't look
25:10
because that is now what what MacBooks look like to me so I've totally adjusted to it so I bought the space gray version
25:17
of the M1 MacBook Pro and I had previously been a silver person and and
25:23
for the same reason that you that you you just um described I was like I just want something new right I want to try
25:29
something new I always do the same thing I'm so sick of doing the same thing and once I got the space gray home it became
25:36
one of my favorite colored Apple devices that I've ever owned it is such a beautiful shade of of like warm gray it
25:43
has like this almost um Art Deco vibe to it which I love and now that I'm used to
25:50
it I would love to have space gray everything but of course now that you
25:55
fall in love with it Apple says Ah like let's try something different how about
26:00
a a darker shade if if you liked that gray wait till you see this version of gray like that's Apple's idea offering
26:06
you a new color silver must be the bestselling model because they never mess with silver it's always available
26:13
so my guess is that's the one that sells the most and then they want to give people who don't want silver some kind of variety so for that reason I might
26:19
try the space black plus if they release the OLED version of the MacBook Pro next year which I think is a
26:26
possibility I may end up upgrading again cuz I simply cannot resist an OLED
26:32
screen but it could be a couple years before we get that so I think this is
26:38
going to be my year I mean I'm using an an M1 Max MacBook Pro when did that machine come out 2020 it's 2021 2021
26:46
okay so it's only been three years so but that machine I use IAT menus to
26:51
track how much memory and CPU is being used and you can see the history of it
26:56
and you can see if your C CPU is being maxed out you can see if compression um or how much compression is happening on
27:02
your memory and my stats are embarrassingly low like they never get
27:08
up past 20 30% because I don't do any heavy lifting anymore I farmed all of it out to Griffin he's got the load on his
27:14
back now which is where I prefer so but I do want to get back into my YouTube channel um and I'm kind of hoping that
27:21
if I get a new machine it will it will be an incentive for me to actually start
27:27
doing stuff on YouTube again again because I just spent all this money on like this beautiful machine it may not
27:32
we'll have to wait and see anything else to add Graham before we move on uh the only other thing to add is in in our
27:38
story on Cult of Mac there is talk of an iPad 11 um my personal view is because
27:45
of the the the X tweet which had very much Mac branding it it gave the vibe
27:51
that this is a Mac event and given that we just had the iPad Mini I think if there was going to be an iPad 11
27:56
wouldn't they have made that iPad press release week and done both then so my instinct is you know sure IP more iPads
28:04
are coming but maybe maybe not this week yeah that's my personal take that
28:11
wouldn't surprise me and we have a bunch of other updates that are going to come
28:17
in probably early 2025 what a queue up what a queue up which goes into segue to
28:23
your next story it's almost like you've been on a podcast before which by the way I should have mentioned Graham is
28:29
the co-host I have a podcast of the of of the apple core podcast that um Charlie cell does we had Charlie on the
28:35
last couple weeks and Graham's the other co-host which I should have mentioned when uh we were doing the intro which I
28:41
completely forgot because all my tech is not working and not in the shape I needed to be and actually to do a show
28:47
but that's neither here nor there I love it when I have to load the um the
28:52
sponsor notes as we're doing the show because I go to read them I'm like wait a second they're not here and if you all
29:01
probably most of you are not aware on um how sponsorships work it's like usually sometimes they give you a script to read
29:08
but sometimes they give you talking points but then there's like a very specific ending script that you have to
29:14
read and if you don't every sponsor is different but like for some sponsors if you don't literally read it verbatim
29:21
then they get mad at you so I always try to be careful um and I didn't have any of that stuff loaded when I was going
29:29
to tell you guys actually how to get that get that great offer which is a really great offer by the way uh and I
29:34
was like uhoh I don't have that here how can I talk
29:41
slowly enough to bring this up I had to go um full
29:47
Captain Kirk okay let's talk about what's coming early 2025 Apple's plans
29:54
for early 202 2025 updates M4 MacBook air refresh delays in the Mac Studio
30:01
dude you guys are going to laugh at me but sincere question we're still we
30:07
still have the M2 Mac Studio right they never updated it to the M3 so they're
30:12
going to go straight to the M4 and and I think that that thing is going to be an absolute nightmare Destroyer um when it
30:18
finally does come out all right let me jump into the story updates for next year while some
30:24
M4 Max are going to arrive next week apple is also gearing up for bigger
30:29
expansions of its M4 chip roll out across the board including M4 MacBook Air which looks like it's going to be
30:36
coming in early 2025 though it looks like it may have pushed back plans for the Mac Studio updates uh at least a few
30:43
months into next year um let's see here other updates coming in the redesigned
30:50
iPhone SE and a new entry level iPad 11th generation dude didn't we just get
30:56
it feels like we just got the 10 generation and it feels like they probably wouldn't update that for at least a couple years but I actually
31:02
don't know when that came out maybe it's been out for maybe 2 3 years at this point I actually don't know I can't
31:08
remember if it was one or two years ago okay it feels like maybe it was two years ago um but I keep bu it was introduced two years ago and then one
31:14
year ago they replaced the N discontinued the iPad 9 and then they bumped it down in price which I keep
31:20
buying the the ninth gen because it's so dang cheap now like that thing is routinely $200 and on sale even less
31:28
less because you know well it's so old and it's like the perfect iPad for kids
31:34
now they all have lightning ports which that's another problem but for the kids they don't care um let's see here uh the
31:41
upcoming MacBook Air models will maintain their current design yeah no shocker there and come with the M4 chip
31:47
according to the germinator from Bloomberg Mark German sources indicate that production will start soon on the
31:54
13th and 15 inch variants um and anticipated launched window is between January and March 2025 so that's the
32:00
first quarter uh Apple has adjusted its timeline for Max for PR Max it is it apparently will postpone release of an
32:07
updated Mac Studio that's now expected to launch between March and June AKA
32:14
Q2 uh additionally development continues on an M4 version of the Mac Pro which
32:19
dude the Mac Pro that the baguer Mac Pro which they never update I mean why would
32:27
you Compu I know it really is like a meme at this point the company's spring 2025
32:34
product cycle is shaping up to be a busy one plans include several other device launches uh we already talked about all
32:40
this stuff um but including upgraded iPad keyboards and yes which I just
32:47
mentioned the 11th generation iPad so all sorts of stuff coming down the pipe it's going to be a busy Q4 it's going to
32:53
be a busy q1 and if I may suggest go ahead and just cut up your credit card
33:03
now it's just going to be too tempting it's a titanium Apple card it's really hard to cut that's true in fact isn't
33:10
that the reason they made it titanium it's genius they're like we're going to we know that eventually you're going to
33:16
realize how much more money you spend when you have a 3% discount on Apple stuff ay 3% nonetheless but and you'll
33:23
try to cut up your credit card it's just not even possible you just literally can't do it unless you get like a pair of diamond Cutters or something
33:31
industrial that you definitely don't have access to so jokes on you I guess
33:37
but it's going to be inexpensive month I'm going to be going for the new Macbook Pro I am thinking about getting the new
33:44
iPad Pro with the OLED screen I might even do the 13-inch version but it's been so long since I've
33:50
updated any of that stuff you know it's like my iPad's from 2018 or 2019 I don't even remember anymore my MacBook Pro is
33:56
3 years old at this point it's like every once in a while you got to upgrade and when you do it just you got to Fork
34:02
it over man you got to Fork it over speaking of forking it over no I'm just joking we won't go into a coat club spot
34:10
I won't make you endure that um let's see here although I think that covers all the
34:17
hardware news is there anything that I'm missing gentlemen gr are you interested in any of the rumored products coming
34:22
next year great question I think Graham either froze or
34:28
oh no he's blinking he's thinking s did you ask me a question are
34:34
you interested in any of the uh products coming next year well you know I I I'm I'm a man of limited means right
34:42
uh launching a new podcast it doesn't it doesn't buy a lot of Apple products let's put it that way that's true that's
34:49
true podcasting is a tough business we could do a tough bu we could do a whole
34:55
uh uh C cast off topic just give you a mini one here though especially in Tech
35:00
you know like unless you have like a really big outfit like The Verge and I even wonder how much money their podcast
35:06
makes you know if you want to make the big bucks you know the kind of podcasting you need to go into you got to go into politics those are the only
35:14
podcasts that seem to get really huge numbers and I and I'm like but if you do politics you basically can't do anything
35:19
else because once you start giving political opinions to people they don't really want to hear your opinions on
35:24
other things so you know that's definitely a life change but yeah not not a huge not a huge windfall of cash
35:32
imag how many more episodes of Apple Core you could export if you had a Mac Pro well I imagine that you're right
35:38
that is a good point that is a good point of course the problem is is you're throwing them into the black hole of the
35:44
Apple podcast ecosystem so I think a better idea would be you got to start a
35:49
Tik Tok Channel Graham you got to start a Tik Tok Channel and maybe work in some
35:55
stories about um you know mustache Couture or mustache maintenance talking
36:02
now that's something that could get you some serious views we can we can Dominate and also invent Apple history
36:08
Tik Tok oh there you go Apple history Tik Tok there's actually I mean isn't everyone everyone on Tik Tok is like uh
36:15
about 40 years younger than me right I don't know if that's true anymore man I don't know I honestly don't know if
36:20
that's true I think the days of being young and cool and Tik Tok are over and that happened about a year ago so I've
36:26
been on Tik Tok for years it used to be called musically and it was a site that
36:31
revolved around people dancing to music and stuff in fact for the first like four to eight months that I used it
36:39
all I did was see people who moonwalked I followed like eight Japanese guys and all they did was moonwalk like that was
36:45
that was in the entire premise of their channel is them moonwalking in Japan and then slowly but surely I started
36:51
noticing fewer moonwalking videos and now Will Smith's in my feed for some
36:57
reason and I'm like oh no this is the beginning of the end once Will Smith joined I was like this is it it's like when Aston Kutcher joined Twitter I was
37:04
like okay not cool anymore we are heading towards you know corporate
37:10
mainstream at this point and so now there's a ton of older people on Tik Tok in fact the irony is I think if I had to
37:18
guess one of the fastest biggest groups biggest growing groups of people are the older people because before it actually
37:25
took effort to make video and Tik Tok makes it so incredibly easy that now even old people can do it so like
37:32
they're on there using filters now they're not moonwalking which is unfortunate but they're on there talking
37:38
about all sorts of topics because it's just so easy to use and so there is a massive variety of content on Tik Tok um
37:45
I think you might be you you might be Prim to do it I think you've cracked it this is the future for our Apple History
37:52
Podcast we're going on Tik Tok and we're going to communicate Apple history through a series of dance challenges
37:57
interpretive dance now I hadn't even considered that angle if you could get Charlie the dance I don't know that that
38:03
would get you views in fact it might do the opposite I think it would get us people would watch that people would pay
38:08
good money for that but you have to do quality content you have to also be talking about Apple history at the same
38:13
time that that's a genre that's never been tried that's a risk that's a risky and bold move I would say but you might be able to pull off you know we I I want
38:20
a costume I want with grocery curtains I want to make a Mac classic costume I'm going to I'm going to be moonwalking
38:28
Matt classic he's not coming back Griffin this is it for him I mean he's going to be making so much
38:34
money I got to run with this he's gonna be making so much money that this will be it this will be the last time that he
38:39
has time to like entertain our podcast well look um before we jump ahead we're
38:45
going to talk about iOS 18.2 beta I need to get on this beta man
38:52
um because I uh I have not been using it ever since I upgraded um I do want to
38:57
thank thank one password for supporting this episode and of course my windows close but that's okay because I have it
39:03
loaded right here I want to thank one password for supporting this episode if I
39:08
may this is important announcement I want you to use your imagination here
39:15
Griffin I know that this is something that you'll be able to do for me oh he's gu his eyes closed and I know he's really paying attention imagine your
39:21
company security this is like this is like CAC level security stuff imagine your company security like the quad on a
39:26
college campus there are nice brick paths between the buildings those are the employee-owned devices it approved
39:33
apps and managed employee identities and then there are the paths people actually use like elcy the shortcuts worn through
39:40
the grass that are the actual straightest path from point A to point B
39:45
those are unmanaged devices Shadow it apps non-employee identities and
39:51
contractors most security tools only work on those happy brick pass Griffin like he's blinking a lot I can tell that
39:57
he's really visualizing this but a lot of security problems take place on the shortcuts one password extended access
40:02
management is the First Security solution that brings all these unmanaged devices apps and identities under your control ensures that every user every
40:09
user credential is strong and protected every device is known and healthy and every app is visible one password
40:15
extended access management solves the problems traditional IM and MDM can't it's security for the way we work today
40:23
and now it's generally available for companies with OCTA and Microsoft entra in beta for Google workspace customers
40:28
check it out at onep password.com cultcast that's the number one one
40:34
password.com SL cultcast and thanks to one password
40:39
for supporting this episode and thank you for imagining that Griffin I could tell you were really getting into it I
40:44
know security is a real problem at culat but largely just because it's managed by elcy and he has never been trained in
40:50
security practices at all Griffin looks rested now you know I feel like it was almost a meditative trance you put him
40:56
into did I in fact I'm not totally sure you weren't asleep for that whole thing you were in such a relaxed
41:03
State all right uh let's continue iOS 18.2 beta 1 I heard someone
41:10
ranting and raving about how great the um the the new email features were um
41:17
but I don't know because I haven't used it take it take it away Griffin yeah so ahead of iOS 18.1 public release which
41:24
is probably going to be Monday or Tuesday Apple released the first iOS 18.2 beta to developers the second major
41:31
Point release of iOS 18 packs several changes including new Apple intelligence features so they haven't even launched
41:37
the first round of features yet and they've already launched more uh the big one image playground a new playground
41:43
app will allow you to use AI to create images with just a few prompts the first time you open the playground app you
41:49
have to you have to join a second weight list even if you've already joined the Apple intelligence weight list in advance so you know you got to update
41:56
and do that if you want want to get it uh once approved you can start creating images in seconds with an option to
42:02
choose between animation and illustration Styles I haven't been able to figure out how to pick between the different styles
42:08
but I've also only had like you know an evening to play around with it gen Emoji similar to image playground you can use
42:15
apple intelligence to create custom emoji based on the entered prompt so you
42:20
know if you've ever been it how this works is pretty clever because they they build it into the Emoji search field so
42:26
if you like type in an emoji like you're trying to search for it you type in ostrich and then it doesn't come up with any results but then it but then it says
42:33
create one and you could just tap right there and it'll start creating it for you and uh these have mixed results like
42:40
you know a few of the emojis that does really well but I also tried to create like a trombone emoji and it just
42:45
couldn't do it at all it made some horrible brass instrument Abominations none of which looked like a
42:53
trombone that's I also tried doing like an arms crossed Emoji like thinking of like one of those like you know person
42:58
icons with like their arms folded like maybe the grumpy face and I kept trying to make like a yellow face style emoji
43:04
and their arms were just horrible inhuman messes so mixed results mixed
43:10
results I have to I I shouldn't ask this but I have to ask this have you try to do anything rude with it yet uh
43:16
occasionally when you type in something it just says we can't we can't do this like I also tried to uh make an emoji of
43:23
the original Macintosh like I tried a bunch of different problems compact Mac mac1 128k and I think as soon as you put
43:29
numbers in it gives up for some reason so I tried to type in like macintosh1 128k it just wouldn't do it oh
43:35
interesting but what it is really good at is doing emojis for specific dog breeds I typed in like Bernie's mountain
43:42
dog whipit you know Pitbull it it's really good at that apparently that's
43:49
like like I was I was trying this out with Ed and he sent me a black cat emoji and I was like oh now I have Emoji for
43:54
Houdini my cat great name great name yeah like so I imagine this is what
43:59
people are going to use it for like 99% of the time um what else do we have here
44:05
uh the writing tools get a little bit of a boost in this upgrade now like in 18.1
44:11
it's just like a set of buttons you can pick to like pick between different styles but now there's an open text box
44:16
that says describe your change so you can bring up the writing tools and type in something specific like you know make
44:23
this a limmerick or something like that and it'll try and do that for you
44:28
um what else visual intelligence first showcase by Apple during the iPhone 16
44:34
launch visual intelligence will provide more information about the subject you point the camera at so you long press
44:40
the camera control button and then you can click it again to take a picture of something you can take a picture of a
44:45
restaurant and it'll tell you the hours or something like that so you can now do that complicated mess instead of just
44:50
like looking it up on Apple Maps or you can take a picture of a computer and
44:56
it'll you can ask chat gbt or you can do a Google image search or sometimes it'll give you more information about that um
45:04
I actually actually posted about this on Maston I took a picture of the Macintosh over my shoulder and it said oh this is
45:10
a Macintosh 128k and I said no it literally says Macintosh Plus right on the front and I just kept arguing with
45:17
me and I was like oh you're right sorry this is a Macintosh Plus you know it features a you know more memory whatever
45:23
this and a faster processor and then I typed back no it doesn't it has the same processor and I was like oh yeah you're
45:28
right sorry that's the same processor a better Lobby disc drive like I I felt like the Ron Swanson on like parks and
45:34
recs like I know more than you that is weird that it wouldn't be able to tell that it's chat DBT so it's
45:40
gonna confidently give you something completely wrong well that does happen a lot yeah chat GPT is now integrated in
45:47
Siri so if you ask it a question that Siri doesn't know the answer to instead of searching on Google it'll say hey do
45:55
you want me to ask this to chat GPT and you know give you I don't that that
46:00
feels like has it done that to you yet has it has it suggested that yet to you yeah yeah or you know you can also
46:07
invoke it by um if you just like have a picture open in the photos app then you can ask Siri what's this and it'll try
46:15
and take the picture out and be like hey do you want me to upload this picture to chat jpt and you can say yes and then
46:20
chat GPT will tell you something about it interesting I don't know how like practical that'll be or how much I'll
46:26
use it but um you know some people might find it handy you can also sign into your chat GPT
46:31
account if you want to access exclusive features I don't know what that would be but that's something you can do
46:38
apparently have you tried the new mail features uh Griffin because those are the ones I keep hearing about from
46:44
people like on the allnew X yeah and I saw people talking about
46:49
that in the cult Club yeah I I guess I realize I don't want to like show my actual email inbox here but yeah prob
46:54
yeah you can you can open your inbox and then you can tap through the different categories on top and it'll it'll filter
47:00
your you know your mail you have a primary category transactions uh updates which is where
47:07
like the cult ofmc newsletter goes for example and promotions so you know promotional emails from I mean dude
47:14
threads and if it were able to actually tell emails that I would want to respond
47:19
to that that that would be revolutionary for me cuz like there are no really
47:25
great ways to do that Google to do it there are some Services out there that you can pay for that will do that but
47:31
they catch emails that you actually want to see so like most of more like domain
47:36
uh focused right so if you're like I don't want to get an email from um I don't know eBay because it's a
47:43
promotional ebil email well what about if you order something on eBay well now you won't get shown those either because
47:49
it's part of the eBay domain so like if it could use this service to show you the emails that you actually want to
47:54
respond to and then keep everything else El in a folder that you could easily delete and it's actually accurate that
48:00
would be absolutely massive for me I mean email management I get so much spam
48:05
I mean I've used email addresses over the years for going to different like press events um also there's that whole
48:12
data broker thing I mentioned earlier like I just get so much spam and no matter how much stuff I unsubscribe to
48:19
it's like I'm constantly just getting new emails from people I've never heard of and it's just my email is a vast
48:24
Wasteland of unread like I I there's no possibility for me to ever get through it and I know a lot of people are in
48:30
that same category some people do like inbox zero it's like dude I don't know how you accomplish that you must only
48:35
have one email address and you probably never give it out once you give your email address out to someone on like in
48:41
the Press world it's like that's it man or have you ever used your email to donate to like any kind of like uh
48:46
political cause or candidate or anything oh dude that just sends it into overdrive I mean they I had no idea I
48:54
mean years ago when I first did that they sell those lists and all of a
48:59
sudden now you're getting emails from every person whoever wants to run for any office anywhere and it's like good
49:06
luck trying to get off those lists I mean it's impossible so yeah I I've said this before I would donate twice as much
49:12
to political campaigns if there was an option that said okay and never talk to me again yeah right I would check that
49:17
every dble double your donation and then we'll not talk to you oh they'll give you that option and then you'll get an
49:23
email three months later hey we noticed that you doubled your donation have you considered giving and then there'll be some cause in there it never ends man it
49:30
never ends there is there is one downside to like adding AI to email though and that I saw somebody at Mastadon say that they got a fishing
49:35
email like there was like a fake email trying to get them to log in and give over their password that Apple
49:40
intelligence had marked as being a priority important must read so wow you
49:46
know these are risky things um I wonder if that's a risky thing for Apple I wonder if they really thought this this
49:53
thing through because what if people take it seriously and and trust that Siri
49:59
knows yeah because like humans already have a hard time Discerning this like so trusting a you know dumb AI system to be
50:07
able to discern that for you is a big ask there is one other new exciting
50:12
feature in iOS 18.2 unrelated to Apple intelligence and that is that if you are a subscriber to Apple news plus there's
50:19
a new Daily News plus puzzle we have a Sudoku great really CU it's so hard
50:27
you seem excited about that I am in fact it's not just one daily sidoku there's three daily Sudoku puzzles of different
50:35
difficulties is that in itself enough to justify the the news Plus subscription
50:40
well look my my family we we genuinely play the mini crosswords and the quartiles every single day and so a new
50:47
puzzle is is kind of exciting I'm I'm almost kind of annoyed that they're giving so many Sudoku puzzles because I
50:53
don't have like an hour every day to play three different Sudoku puzzles like it's generally overwhelming you should
50:59
dial back your workload that you have more time to do the soku puzzles they're
51:04
clearly very important you know I'm really excited about this apple intelligence stuff but I I'm a Brit living in Spain and so I
51:11
actually have no idea if I'm going to get access to it because like it's not coming to the European Union where I
51:17
live but then my Apple account is a British account and I don't know if they're going to be blocking this on a
51:22
on a like an IP address GOP blocking or I think you'll be able to get it because
51:29
I know that uh federo vtii lives in Italy but he has this American Apple ID
51:34
that he uses sometimes and he said that all he had to do was like switch to that American Apple ID and suddenly he could sign up for it so with with your British
51:41
Apple ID you could probably get in on here what what features are you most excited for uh well you know creating rude gen
51:49
mojis mostly you know okay but it's the thing it's the challenge it's the
51:54
challenge right now there will be journalists right now who really want to be the first to look look at this appalling picture that I managed to
52:01
create with apple intelligence I mean because the story writes itself right so I mean I respect you you Griffin are a
52:08
man of integrity and a quality journalist and you wouldn't do that but right now you know I'm not going to name
52:14
names but there are certain Apple bloggosphere websites and they
52:20
they are right they're they're typing all that you know eggplant this and that and the other and that they're they're
52:25
getting creative it's okay to call out 9 to5 Mac Ram it's to it's totally fine here on this show we we know what
52:31
they're like over there at 9 to5 Mac so you can just say it those brutes yeah I know unrefined
52:41
yeah eggplant gen emojis that's that's what I'm most excited about okay well
52:47
we'll have to see what TC can conjure for you I have a feeling that there's going to be a lot of limitations on the
52:53
types of imagery Apple AI will Apple intelligence will will create for you um
52:59
it's actually pretty remarkable how much these um llms can control what types of
53:04
outputs you receive in so many different ways because you would think that it would just be hard to reain in but they
53:12
have a remarkable ability to keep their llms um in a narrow scope of topics um
53:18
so that you can't ask it stuff to have it create stuff for you that might be embarrassing but all right anything else
53:24
here before we move on we got to we got to wrap thing up and we got like two stories left although these ones might be short ones um and I think we're going
53:31
to have to save the um the Fujifilm uh X or VI the Fujifilm um Talk for next week
53:40
the X100 6 talk um because I don't even have my camera out here which I was thinking I probably want to actually
53:45
have here when we talk about it so let's wrap up with these two stories here we
53:51
got some fines coming to Apple now I was talking with Griffin before the
53:57
show and I was like I don't know how interested people are going to be in Apple getting fined but apparently they
54:04
seem to have maybe I'm just um making sure I frame this correctly so we're not
54:09
sued uh made some mistakes when it comes to Apple card allegedly I believe it's known as a professional oopsy okay Oopsy
54:17
Daisy and now they're getting hit with findes is this this is being in the this
54:22
is in the US too so this is not in the EU this is this is the Consumer
54:29
Financial Protection Bureau yeah in the US okay 90 $9 million fines which
54:34
relative to the justice department and the EU this is this is chump change right the the justice department and the
54:39
EU I think they're looking for billions right um but this this is 90 million and of that Goldman sachsman Goldman Sachs
54:47
is on the hook for 64.8 million and apple is only expected to pay 25 million
54:53
in fines and this is according to a press release that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau put out so I
54:59
mean this is not I mean this is not even going to get onto Tim Cook's desk this is not even a this not a SE Suite level find that's
55:08
like 10 Vision Pros you're right but I I think it is I think it is still it's not
55:14
a good look for apple and one of the things that struck me about this is when Apple uh brought out the Apple card I
55:19
was a little bit surprised because I as a product it didn't really feel in Apple's wheelhouse right it you know
55:26
Financial Services is not something that they've they've done before it felt to me a bit like an apple car type product
55:31
like really what what what has that got to do with with Apple's Mission um and
55:37
one of the other things we touched on this in one of the earlier stories you know Apple puts a product out and then they forgot it forget about it for years
55:44
and you know I suffer from this I use made for iPhone hearing aids and there
55:49
there's bugs with made for iPhone hearing aids that have been around for years and apple just never gets around
55:54
to fix fixing them because they're a team busy on other stuff and you can get away with that with you know marginal
56:01
products like made for iPhone hearing aids but with a with a credit card you you kind of have to have the eye on the
56:06
ball because if if someone has got a a payment that they need to contest then
56:12
someone needs to sort that out and according to this press release that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau put out uh there was this report issue
56:21
feature in the Apple wallet and apple was not actually passing on this is
56:26
according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau uh was not passing this information on to Goldman Sachs and
56:32
when Goldman Sachs received it it wasn't always promply resolved and I
56:37
anecdotally uh as this story came out I was just looking on X and on threads and I saw people saying yeah that happened
56:42
to me and so I saw real life Apple card consumers who were griping about this
56:48
issue that they they contested payments and it it was never resolved or it wasn't resolved in a timely fashion and
56:54
I think that's a you know that's a bad look rapple so I I think as a fine it's it just is not an issue but I I think as
57:02
a a PR thing this is not something that this is not the standard that Apple sets and so I think for that reason Tim Cook
57:09
will be not happy about this it's also just like not surprising at all like apple has an open feedback button and
57:15
they're ignoring the feedback and not passing it along to anybody else yeah is anybody surprised it's kind of ironic
57:20
how perfect that is yeah for developers yeah for developers it's you know whenever you
57:26
report an issue you you might hear about it 10 years later right so everyone's so
57:31
busy you know it's just like you don't get away with that with with a with the financial services you can't get away with that right yeah that's right and
57:39
it's not surprising that they make mistakes but in the financial World those mistakes seem to have more serious
57:45
repercussions than something that you do with a keyboard for instance that doesn't work for four years and then end
57:51
end up having to recall it um but business process can be so incredibly
57:57
complicated I mean especially when you're venturing out into a business that you haven't formally been involved in and there's so many things that could
58:04
get you and there's there's the knowns the known unknowns and then the unknown unknowns and and it's amazing that you
58:12
could have a company like apple with Limitless resources Limitless attorneys Limitless what it seems to have
58:18
Limitless engineering capacity although that's not true because I mean they often spit themselves too too thin and
58:24
to still miss stuff like this like a really simple but big thing like this which can cost them I mean 90 million T
58:32
TC is aware of this I mean it's not nothing I mean I I know that Apple has a
58:38
lot of money but $90 million is is not chump change to Apple I I don't think
58:44
like that's a that's a pretty big payout for a mistake aund almost hundred million doar I mean how much money do
58:50
they have in the bank like 200 billion so I guess in the scheme of things maybe not but dang 90 million
58:57
bucks all right last story it looks like it's the end for Vision Pro Griffin I hate to
59:04
tell you this but Vision Pro production I think it's just done forever it is it is the end asterisk so here here's the
59:11
story Apple reportedly might end production of Vision Pro by the end of the year that doesn't mean the mixed
59:18
reality headset is going to be discontinued however uh still copertino apparently now has its focus on the
59:24
cheaper Vision Pro version that could launch 2025 according to the information Apple
59:29
has sharply scar Apple has sharply scaled back production of the Vision Pro mixed reality headset since the early
59:35
summer and could stop making the existing version entirely by the year end um but ending production just means
59:44
the company has enough inventory stocked up to hold it until the replacement comes along uh multiple reports point to
59:51
Apple now being at hard at work at a more affordable version that might get the cost down to $2,000 a price Apple
59:57
supposedly hopes will double demand a true successor and replacement for the original version Pro is reportedly
1:00:03
coming in 2026 I believe we're just expecting that to be like a spec bump from M2 to M4 or something um and this
1:00:10
strategy isn't unprecedented Apple reportedly made every unit of the original homepod before the the device
1:00:16
even launched and when the smart speaker didn't become breakout success at 349 Apple introduced a cheaper homepod mini
1:00:23
before eventually coming out with a revised of the homod so yes they might be ending production but allegedly that
1:00:31
is just because they're they're making enough or what what they expect to be enough for the next year so yeah but I
1:00:38
feel like make making an analogy with the homepod is not really reassuring for Vision Pro fans because that sort of
1:00:43
Lang languish for years didn't it it just van said nothing they they said not a
1:00:49
word yeah and the the homepod is wasn't supposed to be the launch of a brand new
1:00:54
software platform like division Pro is yeah if they gotta be careful because
1:01:01
if they for some reason underestimate demand and these things sell out and you just can't buy them anymore I I think
1:01:09
that's going to be a nail in the coffin for this thing I mean and then they come back out with a new version like six
1:01:14
months to a year later or something I mean that's obviously like a worst case scenario but if people believe that
1:01:19
you're no longer going to support this product because it just disappears from the marketplace and you can't buy anymore I think that's going to really
1:01:25
spook people and when you come out with a new one they may not be interested in the new version I mean I imagine if they
1:01:31
they run out run they start to run out of their inventory they could probably rant production back up you know they could resume it and make more I don't
1:01:38
know I don't know if that's true right think about all the specialized equipment that has to go into creating a
1:01:43
product like this and there's probably minimums that they have to be ordering and so they've made it theyve they've
1:01:49
they have some calculus right they're like well we can't keep this assembly line open forever we're not selling enough of these things so we just need to make as many as we think we're going
1:01:55
to sell and then let's repurpose this production line to make something else there's only so much production capacity
1:02:00
out there right and they certainly have other products that they can be making like iPhones and and other things and
1:02:06
they probably are getting ready to sell a new one at some point so I'm going to guess like that's the calculus like they're like we know that we're going to
1:02:11
release a new one on this date how many do we need to get us to that date so that we can start retooling and use this
1:02:18
production line for other things so that could mean that A Vision Pro a New Vision Pro is not on the immediate
1:02:26
Horizon but like you know on the medium-term horizon like we're kind of heading towards another version at some
1:02:32
point um in the not not too distant future but you know not in the next six
1:02:37
months I don't know but that would definitely be how I interpret it yeah that if they it they going to jump from
1:02:44
this to the next one and they're just getting their stocks up and and yeah they wouldn't they wouldn't cease
1:02:51
production if they didn't have whatever is coming next down the line in the next year or so
1:02:58
or they're thrown in the towel and they're like yeah this this was a huge
1:03:03
mistake now look I don't think they will they won't do that they won't do that because like yeah because they they I
1:03:10
mean Tim Cook has unlimited budget so you know he's going to keep trying to make it happen and you know he's not
1:03:17
going to give up on this I really don't think so um and I think it's it feels to me it just feels like tantal liely an
1:03:23
almost great product but I mean to me I I saw one for the first time just this weekend I was in London
1:03:30
to watch an NFL game at Wembley Stadium and because we're not allowed Vision Pro in Spain I had never seen one and I went
1:03:36
into the Apple Store in Covent Garden in London and I saw one for the first time and I was like it was a beautiful thing you know
1:03:43
it is it's a beautiful thing and I was so tempted to buy one and I I just I was
1:03:51
the the thing that stopped me more than anything was what would it say about myself at this stage in life I know that I
1:03:57
can't afford this what is wrong with me you know but a part of me genuinely wanted to throw
1:04:03
my life away sacrifice everything to buy this to buy this beautiful thing you
1:04:08
made the right choice man it it it is sparkly and alluring but the amount of value that it gives you for the price
1:04:16
that it is is really truly not worth it and and for the record I don't think the Apple's throwing in the towel at all
1:04:21
like I think that this thing will I think that Apple's probably got like a five to 10 year plan for this thing and
1:04:26
even if it doesn't succeed now they're going to keep trying and keep trying and keep trying and I think that it has the potential to be something that's
1:04:33
ubiquitous but we're certainly not close to that point it might be you know five six years away from that but you would
1:04:38
have felt terrible you would have felt terrible for spending all that money and then you get it what once that return
1:04:45
window closes you would have felt awful you're like wait a second what did I do with my life all I can do is watch
1:04:53
grainy movies in like i f G is right there I know and to be honest I'm
1:04:59
speaking to Griffin now you know I I'm just saying out loud what should have been said weeks ago and look there's
1:05:06
there's tears in his eyes but he's holding back but that's okay he's a true Apple fan and plus he's going to need it for his Museum since um the product will
1:05:14
soon be defunct and he'll have one of the only exhibits available uh in in a museum anywhere okay let's go ahead and
1:05:21
wrap it up there that's all the time we got and uh that's all the cult cast I think that week and mustard but you know what the party continues me and Griffin
1:05:29
we're both in the very exclusive cult Club I might do some giveaways in the cult Club I got some products I was
1:05:34
looking around and I was like you know what I've got some products I just don't want anymore and U or don't need anymore
1:05:40
and I might think about giving some of those away in the exclusive cult Club so if you want to join now is a good time to do it support.the cast.com support.
1:05:47
cc.com cult of9 to5 Mac rumors.com litigation is in process I haven't been
