hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:11
how you can make yourself custom
0:13
gestures within iOS 5 and this works on
0:16
the iPhone the iPod touch as well as the
0:18
iPad now in a previous video a while
0:20
back I showed you how to do something
0:22
similar and that was with assist of
0:24
touch in iOS 5 that was the beta but the
0:28
custom gesture feature
0:30
wasn't really working the best then and
0:32
it was hard to give you a complete demo
0:34
and since then I've come up with some
0:35
other uses for it so I kind of want to
0:37
show you how to really use the custom
0:40
gesture feature it's actually a pretty
0:42
powerful feature so to set it up first
0:44
thing you're going want to do is go into
0:46
settings and this is the same whether
0:47
you're working on an iPhone an iPod
0:50
touch or an iPad and then from there
0:52
General and then you're going to want to
0:54
scroll down until you find accessibility
0:57
and you hit that and then scroll down
1:00
some more until you get to assist of
1:03
touch and you can select assist of touch
1:05
and you're going to have to turn it on
1:07
this feature does use assist of touch
1:09
and when it's turned on you'll see this
1:11
little dot down in the corner and you
1:13
can press that to activate a couple
1:15
different things and then hit the center
1:16
to go back but the feature I really want
1:19
to focus on today is this custom
1:21
gestures feature so I can select create
1:23
new gesture and a menual will pop up and
1:25
on the bottom here I can play the
1:27
gesture that I'm working with or I can
1:29
stop stop a certain one and in the
1:31
center of the screen here you can see I
1:32
can touch to create a custom gesture so
1:35
let's say I want a scrolling gesture all
1:37
I have to do is scroll with my finger on
1:39
the screen and it'll record the gesture
1:42
and if I hit play I can play the gesture
1:44
back and you can see it uh follows
1:46
exactly where my finger was and then of
1:48
course I can go up here and I can hit
1:49
save and then all I have to do is give
1:51
my gesture a name so in this case I'll
1:53
just call it
1:55
scroll and hit save so when you go back
1:58
out this gesture will appear right under
2:00
your custom gestures so if I go back
2:02
into settings here and I'm going to go
2:03
all the way out back to the main menu uh
2:07
to use this for scrolling all I have to
2:09
do is tap the little square for assist
2:11
of touch and then click on favorites and
2:13
these are all gestures that either have
2:15
been recorded or already in here the
2:18
default one is pinched that one's always
2:20
there and I'm just going to select
2:22
scroll so now up here you're going to
2:23
see this little blue dot on your screen
2:25
and that's where the gesture is and I
2:26
can move this gesture around or whatever
2:29
and whenever I let go it'll perform the
2:31
gesture so let's say I'm at the bottom
2:33
of the list and I go in and I select the
2:34
gesture scroll and I just tap you can
2:37
see It'll scroll right up the page for
2:39
me and I guess this could be useful if
2:41
you're going to be scrolling along a
2:44
long list of information and you don't
2:47
really want to just sit there and keep
2:48
flicking your finger so if you want to
2:49
turn this gesture off you can just hit
2:51
this little square down here again and
2:52
it'll turn it off so this might be
2:54
something that you'd like if you read a
2:56
lot of text on your iOS device uh for
2:59
example this long list right here I can
3:01
just touch the screen and it'll keep
3:02
scrolling for me and in this case I
3:06
wouldn't have to just keep flicking my
3:07
finger to get through this list I can
3:09
just use the gesture and it'll scroll
3:12
for me just like I recorded I can even
3:14
use this gesture to bring down not I can
3:17
even use this gesture to bring down
3:19
notification center if I wanted to you
3:21
can see there it just slid down from the
3:23
top of the page uh just like that so now
3:26
the uses for these gestures are pretty
3:29
much Unlimited
3:30
as far as your imagination can go uh
3:32
there's not a ton of things that I can
3:35
personally see myself using these for uh
3:37
but once again this is an accessibility
3:40
feature so officially it's meant as a
3:42
feature for people who have hard time
3:44
using the device but it can actually
3:46
kind of assist you in everyday tasks
3:49
another thing I thought of to do with
3:50
this and it's kind of Impractical use
3:53
but you can actually kind of make a
3:55
gesture to play Angry Birds for you uh
3:57
so that's something if you just kind of
3:58
make the gesture let's try that again if
4:02
you just kind of make the gesture you
4:03
would as you you know pull back the
4:05
slingshot for the birds and I'll save
4:08
this as Angry Birds so now you can see
4:11
here when I'm in Angry Birds and all I
4:12
have to do is take the gesture and tap
4:14
on the bird it'll kind of swing it back
4:16
and uh play the game for me so not
4:19
useful on every level uh but it's kind
4:21
of neat and uh it's a little proof of
4:24
concept
4:25
thing that you can use this for uh
4:27
specific purposes so it looks like a I
4:29
might be able to beat this level uh
4:32
pretty much handsfree and there you go I
4:34
beat the level uh by not really playing
4:37
the game at all so whether you consider
4:39
that cheating or not I guess that's up
4:40
to you so there you go there's how you
4:42
can use the accessibility features
4:44
within iOS 5 to create custom gestures
4:47
and use those to your advantage if you
4:49
have anything you'd like to see me do a
4:50
howu on especially regarding iOS 5 which
4:53
was just released make sure to send me
4:55
an email I hope you found this video
4:57
useful and thank you for watching
