iPhone 16 Leak: Action Button Upgrade on All Models

Yeah, this is great news if this all turns out to be true

Supposedly next year's iPhone 16 lineup, every model is going to get an action button, not

just the Pro ones. And supposedly it'll be a capacitive button and bring a whole bunch of additional functionality

I mean, right now, really, the only problem with the action button is that it only does

one thing, right? I mean, you have to pick what it is and then you can't do it

So you have to pick exactly what it is, it does that, and then, you know, maybe you want

to have to do two things, right? Anyway, action button hardware and software limitations, as well as the size and placement

leave some people wanting more. Because it is a great thing, but maybe you want it to work a little bit differently

Upgrade could be coming soon. Apple apparently plans to enhance the action button next year and expand it to the rest

of the iPhone lineup. This is according to a Mac Rumors report, I think, came out last week and it's based

on an internal Apple document. The leaked document purportedly provides insight into Apple's plans for the action button on

the 2024 iPhones. I love it when they give us the code names

The code name of the project is Apple. That's a key for me. I keep track of those in my journal. Really

It adds interest. So that's the name of the project that's supposed to boost the action button functionality

Apparently Apple's been experimenting with different sizes for the hardware. Some internal prototypes feature a button bigger than the one on the iPhone 15 Pro

And on some other models, the button size is similar to the volume keys

This is a quote from Mac Rumors. According to internal documentation, easy for me to say, according to internal documentation

the updated action button will feature a force sensor, which detects changes in pressure

as well as, quote, tact switching functionality, although exactly what the latter entails

is currently unclear. So we don't know exactly what it's going to do, but it sounds like it's going to be a

lot more capable than the current one. It's still not clear where Apple's going to put it

Some people, like our own Leander Caney, wish that it wasn't where it is on the iPhone Pro

Oh, this is the perfect place. It's too high, especially on the Pro Max 2

I have to, like, grab the phone with my one hand and slide my hand all the way up to get

the action button. Well, maybe that's a sign that the phone is too big and not that the button's in the wrong place

I'm sure that that's true. The phone is definitely too big. But hey, what are you going to do

Got to get that 3X or 5X. Excuse me, 5X. Look, if you have normal man-sized hands and not tiny little Alexi Heath paws

This is like a bear holding a phone. Just look at that grip right there. You're telling me you can't do that

And that's what I love about it is I can hold the phone. I mean, I hold it like this and then I have to go like this

I have to slide my hand up to get to that part

It's too far up. I agree with Leander Caney 100%. If you haven't read his article, you should go read it right now

How Apple can make it better. Make that action button better. Does anybody not like the action button

I love it. I use it all the time. But look at this. I can activate it while I'm holding my phone

You're also holding your phone backwards, like gripping the screen. Yeah, you do everything backwards. That's the problem

Well, that's because I use it with the flashlight. What do you guys use yours for

That's all I need it for. I get a flashlight button right there. I use it for the flashlight too, and it does come in handy
