More than half of all iOS devices detected in May were located outside the U.S., a just-released survey indicates. Apple was also the most-frequent brand found, with 44 million unique devices, according to the AdMob ad agency.
According to AdMob, 57 percent of the iOS devices it found in May were outside the United States. Although 48 percent of iOS devices, such as the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, were found inside North America, 28 percent were from Western Europe, while 15 percent came from Asia.
Outside the U.S., the UK is the single country with the most iOS devices, with 9 percent. France ranked third with 6 percent, Canada had five percent, while Japan had four percent.
While 43.8 million (29.3 million iPhones) iOS devices were detected, Google’s Android-based devices placed a distant second with 12.7 million unique devices found by AdMob.
The competition between Apple and Android is much closer in the U.S., where Apple hold only a 2-to-1 lead. Internationally, however, iOS enjoys a 3.5-to-1 advantage.
