Do you remember the girl with four iPads for a head? In it, a pretty New York girl walked through a park in a helmet made up of a cube of iPads, all of which showed on their displays the girl’s face as if she were walking through the park without her skull being encased in tablets.

It was a publicity stunt for Cosmo for Guys, and a pretty neat video, but I have to say I’m disappointed with how the advertising company actually accomplished the feat.

When I saw the video, I was sure that they had recorded the girl’s face and then programmed a custom app to overlay it on video taken from each iPad 2’s front-facing camera.

Instead, though, the whole thing was done a lot more laboriously and a lot less accurately, by filming the model walking through the park four times, then putting the helmet on, setting the video playing on each iPad and having her walk through the park all over again.

Don’t get me wrong: that’s a perfectly fine way to do things. It just seems a little inelegant when there could have been some cool augmented reality stuff going on. Still pretty neat though, don’t you think?
