oh geez it's that started the show nerves right Louis just never get old will it
0:08
was it bad Christmas dinner too much tur it was a delicious
0:13
Christmas dinner did you really oh man I want to hear about that I think we're
0:19
live but I can't be sure you know why because I didn't bring up the YouTube page we're just completely Flying Blind
0:26
here I have no idea what's going on oh we're
0:32
live oh great we'll see if anyone shows up for a Friday after Christmas show
0:38
does anyone even care that we show up late anymore I don't know that that anyone does so while we're waiting leis
0:43
do you want to regil us with your absolutely delicious Christmas dinner story turn it into something interesting
0:50
please for the love of God we got to retain our listeners it was a Christmas Eve dinner and we had a nice nice uh
0:58
ribeye roast delicious oh hey I had a riby roast too I made one yeah that's do
1:03
did grotten potatoes did you have that no we didn't have that Dam cream spinach
1:08
no man I should have come to your house Yorkshire pudding I don't even know what Yorkshire pudding is Yorkshire pudding
1:15
is an astonishing thing really it's uh it you can make a big one yeah uh but my
1:22
wife makes it in a little like muffin pans you you basically you put in some beef Tallow off the bottom of the roast
1:28
pan in there a little bit in each cup I me it's just a mixture of like flour and water and salt and it and yeast and it
1:35
just it rises up like a big so it's like almost like a mushroom it's like meat
1:40
pudding it's bread it's bread it's a it's a it's a fluffy piece of bread I mean each one weighs like probably you
1:47
know 20 grams or something super lightweight if if you get it's an English food so it probably like
1:53
developed during a war of some kind and yeah if you get a if you get a big one if you make like a single big one it'll
1:59
it'll blow up and it'll come out it looks like a big you know and it's it's like a balloon it's it's it's Hollow on
2:05
the inside you cut itome I thought you you said that this Christmas dinner was delicious now
2:11
you're convincing me that you're wrong so delicious the roast beef are you kidding me fastic you know the thing
2:17
about so I also got the ribey roast and I cooked that thing to Perfection actually I I got a recipe off YouTube
2:23
that actually worked really well let's see so you put it in the oven so it depends how big it is right but you
2:28
essentially put it in the at 200° and it slow Cooks it so that the
2:34
temperature throughout the whole thing raises more uniformly they call it like a svie method right but it's not in the
2:39
actual water and then once it raises up to like 100° you crank the oven up to
2:45
450 and that temperature kind of crisps the outside and so you kind of get like
2:51
the perfect inside temperature and the perfect dude it worked it worked beautifully it was probably the most
2:57
succulent moist steak I've ever made and and the problem is is my kids and my
3:02
wife will only eat it when it's hot out the oven that's it so we ate maybe half of that thing first of all my wife
3:08
bought a 7 PB ribey roast I'm like it needs to be three lbs Max like you know
3:14
7 PBS is a lot of beef yeah we had an eight pounder and there were only three of us okay so how much of it did you
3:20
actually eat though oh yeah my kids probably not even half little nibble right my wife eats like a little slice
3:27
and then I'm left to eat the whole rest of that day thing for the next four or five days and it's it's just you know
3:33
non-stop meat Fest for the whole time you know was that seven pounds bone in
3:39
or or it was bone in B yeah was bone so was ours but dude it turned out really
3:44
good so did you did you cut the roast off of the ribs before you put it in I did it afterwards actually I did it
3:51
afterwards actually so this is another little Pro tip cut it off the ribs prior and then tie it back on tie the ribs on
3:58
so then it's sitting on the ribs but when you're done you just snip those things and pull the roast off and why
4:04
would you cut it off and then tie it back on so it Cooks on the cooks on the ribs which I I swear to you a elevates
4:11
it off the the grease if it happens to be sitting in or in a roasting pan but it also I I you know I think that
4:17
cooking it on the bones actually makes it taste better you think so well it certainly takes a little little while
4:23
longer because the bones just hold that cold forever and then they so like that meat around the bones when I finally cut
4:29
it was not not actually that cooked all right look I don't know if people want to listen to us talking about meat it's
4:35
not like we're going to transition into talking about Apple news just for the record we we did it the opposite way 450
4:41
for like 20 minutes to get do that and then you then you shut it down to like 300 or something I think the danger of
4:48
doing it that way though is that if you Char it too much well now you have to
4:53
leave it in the oven for another that's true hour two hours three hours right so it seems safer to do it the opposite way
5:01
okay look I don't know now my mouth is watering I know get the podcast let's go eat some left six six pounds of steak
5:07
eat uh I want to give a shout out to caveman who's here Jonathan q6 here no
5:13
one else is in the chat it's just the two of them we have other people watching but no one wants to join the chat which for this conversation I mean
5:18
I don't know why you wouldn't uh this is gon to be yeah what I hope this mug meets with your seal of approval I know
5:26
how irritated you are when I have a mug you don't like you know I'm a mug guy
5:31
it's kind of become my thing here's my mug oh boy it's funny it looks like
5:38
Mickey Mouse well there's a reason for that this is from Joe's Cable Car restaurant in San Francisco is it good
5:45
well it used to be now it's taken over by no it's gone they shut it down it's
5:50
motto was Joe grinds his own Chuck Daily we only use top quality Chuck at
5:57
this restaurant is it Chuck like C of the cow it's like the worst part of C good solid beef oh it's delicious good
6:04
solid beef yeah I could you even tell me what part of the cow the Chuck is you know why they call it Chuck because he
6:10
used to Chuck it into the garbage leis and then they trick people like you into eating it a real man only touches ribeye that's
6:18
it there's no other there's no other cow part that's worth eating let's just serve it inside a cable car and then
6:23
suddenly we've got a premium dining experience yeah you know they had to run it over with a cable car in order to tenderize it that's why that's the the
6:30
only way they made it edible leave that grease on there for moisture oh steaks and roasts come from
6:37
this area yeah but not the ones you'd want to eat upper shoulder and lower neck the lower neck the part they put
6:44
the harness on what do you go for the round what do you go I the only thing I use the round for is beef jerky the
6:51
round and the eye of round are like the best parts of the steer I grab that
6:57
thing by the horns I punch my hand right in there pull out the rounds and make beef jerky that's how I do
7:02
it it grows back eventually right then okay all right well let's go ahead and
7:08
queue up uh Mrs you know who we'll get this thing rolling oh Mrs
7:17
D Mrs D oh my dear did I hear you boys talking about meat oh boy Mrs D I'm
7:24
going to stop you right there stop you right there Lis has got coffe in his
7:29
mouth and I don't want him to Chuck that coffee all over his camera and short it out so if you don't mind we'll get this
7:36
thing rolling we have no apple stories to talk about this week really but allting stuff no tweets no nothing we'll
7:44
get this thing going in three two hello and welcome to the best 30
7:51
plus minute Apple conversation you're going to hear all week long I'm your host air Li joining me today it's almost 2025 and
7:58
he's turning over a new Leaf no more yelling or drill sergeant Antics to motivate the cult MC Riders no sir going
8:04
forward he's taking a new approach it's called violence first which he believes will increase productivity at least
8:10
30% any he wants the Tweet action not yet L you got to wait also with us he spent all his
8:17
Christmas money on a new Apple Pippen video game console in a few more years
8:23
he thinks he'll be able to afford one of its games he's a rider for culat Griffin Jones is here I would really like a
8:30
pipen um I haven't received any offers yet but you know if anybody is a fellow Apple collector who would like to reach
8:36
out a helping hand to another oh man feedback driffin jones.com God it'd be so amazing if you actually got one of
8:41
those things oh yeah I have the TV for it I was going to say you're like the only person I know that actually could use it you know and not just have it be
8:47
in a museum all right uh you want the Tweet action here leis man we new method
8:53
right we got to try the new message are ready I don't think our listeners typically get to hear the Tweet go out so I hope they're ready
9:00
they won't it either because I'll edit it out but sounds like edit that part that's the good stuff no that's the
9:06
that's the stuff that people love all right well Welcome to our end of year
9:12
show we have little if no Apple news I mean if we happen to talk about
9:19
something Apple it's just a coincidence because there's obviously no real news to speak of but that's okay because we
9:25
got Apple news stories real or fictional are purely coincidental there may be a couple Apple mentions in this episode
9:30
there may just be but this is our favorite and least favorite stuff of
9:36
2024 the final episode of the year I actually love that we do this this is probably one of my favorite things that we do because it gives us an opportunity
9:43
to talk about stuff that we love and stuff that we hate which is just great conversation um in my opinion and uh it
9:50
can run the gamut of shows movies Apple stuff cameras uh unbelievably powerful
9:57
um almost magical level cleaning cloth I mean it could be anything that you want to talk about Griffin or Lewis
10:03
especially those claws that you're using and uh we don't know how long the show is going to go we're going to just go
10:08
round robin style until we completely run out of time um which we have no time
10:14
limit so maybe until we run out of steam until Lewis gets extra sleepy which he looks like he's about 20% of the way
10:20
there already or extra hungry or that we just spend about 20 minutes talking about beef and how to cook a ribey roast
10:27
which I don't know if people would enjoy that or not I really don't know but before we dive in uh I'll give a quick
10:33
well shout out to Jose Negron he says he's celebrating his birthday with the cultcast happy birthday my friend oh man
10:41
celebrating his birthday with the cultcast is that a good thing I'm not sure it is but if you enjoy it Jose then we want
10:49
to wish you Happy Birthday uh before we dive in I do want to thank one password for supporting this episode one
10:57
password I have a quick question for you all especially for Lewis do your end
11:03
users always and I mean always without exception Lewis work on company-owned devices and it approved apps by end
11:10
users yeah your end users your array of end users I didn't think so l so my next
11:16
question is how do you keep your company's data safe when it's sitting on all those unmanaged apps and devices
11:23
well guess what Lewis one password has an answer to this question extended
11:28
access management oh you look you look relieved I've never seen you look that relieved one password extended access
11:36
management helps you secure every device every signin for every app on every device because it solves the problem
11:42
traditional I am and MDM can't touch so you can finally secure all those well I
11:49
would say possibly illegal devices that alen is using for all sorts
11:55
of Nefarious purposes the DEA hasn't completed their investigation yet but I
12:00
imagine there'll be more on that later you can check it out at onep password.com cultcast that's the number
12:06
one password.com cultcast thanks to one password for supporting this episode let's dive right
12:13
into the show right into the show Lewis who wants to go first this is going to
12:18
be our round robin episode as I mentioned anything you loved or or hated in 2024 Lewis or Griffin has like 16 things
12:26
we told them we don't have time for that you got to pick your time top five maybe but does anyone want to go for us or
12:32
should I Dive Right In I'll go for it all right that's what I like some initiative around here finally finally
12:39
this is um this is a product I was sent uh by someone who reached out to my
12:45
public email address I'm not entirely sure why I don't know how much research into what I do they did so it's a little
12:52
confusing that they thought that I would be a good person to talk about this but they happened to be uh sending me a
12:58
product that I already owned happily used and was starting to wear out so I was happy to receive a new fresh set of
13:05
these this is called the fur zapper this is
13:11
um now Griffin's giving away secrets on how he Styles his hair it looks
13:17
suspiciously like that thing he talked about last week it does actually look just like that except I have a feeling
13:22
this is not for you it is about a similar size it's like a a large block
13:28
of rubber shaped into like a round shape with like a little like paw hole cut out of it do you do either of you have a
13:34
clue of what this product does I'm gonna guess that it removes animal fur from
13:40
fabric surfaces yes in laundry the idea is that uh you you
13:46
throw you throw these bad boys in your washer or dryer and they are like the uh
13:52
the the honey pot the ant trap they the like a sort of sticky rubber material
13:58
and all of the hair in your in your clothes comes off of the clothes and it sticks to these bad boys so I previously
14:05
only had two of them but now I have four of them in addition to this backup set that they sent me that I'm keeping new
14:11
in the packaging so I have two of these in my washer two of these in my dryer and they just sort of live there and as
14:19
someone who's I've worn like you know plain black clothing dark clothing grays
14:25
for a long time but uh in the last few years or so um I would say that I've
14:32
transitioned to wearing dark clothes obscenely covered in dog hair because I have two giant fuzzy dogs their hair is
14:40
literally everywhere it is the bane of my existence but now with these I can I can slowly wean it out of my life so do
14:48
they actually work on a scale one to 10 how well do these things actually work I'd give it a seven they collect it's
14:54
pretty good they don't collect all of it like know when it comes out out you know
14:59
especially with the these black shirts that I wear the material that I have like I you know still do a little rub down to get any extraneous hairs off of
15:07
my shoulders and you know what's visible on the camera and stuff like that dang dude you sold me I have a dog too and
15:13
its wiry hair ends up absolutely every everywhere my dog is a flipping fur bomb
15:19
when I got that dog we we it she didn't have like her Overcoat yet and we thought she was going to not really be a
15:25
big shedder and her hair is everywhere all the time and She lays on our blankets on our couch and stuff and uh
15:33
and actually we have one of those robotic vacuums which I think is a lifechanging device every time I change
15:39
that thing's bin or empty that thing's bin full of dog hair it's just absolutely full of dog hair all the time
15:44
and it drives around our house it doesn't fill up right away because we have a small like she's like well she's supposed to be like 14 pounds she's
15:50
probably like 19 she's she's grown a bit rotund in her older years but especially
15:56
she doesn't move ever my my two dogs one of them is I think 55 lb the other one is I think 85
16:02
and the 85 LB One is obscenely hairy so like when I run my Robot vacuum I have no joke I have to empty out the little
16:09
tray about every 30 minutes that it's running that's through the entire process cuz it just immediately fills up
16:15
with dog if you have a dog even if you don't have a dog but especially if you have an animal um I feel like those
16:20
robotic vacuums are just absolutely life-changing I mean the amount of hair you know like when you walk on your
16:26
floor and and things start sticking to your feet like that gross Sensation that you just haven't swept or or vacuumed in
16:33
a while just is completely gone and these things I would say I haven't used one although I did just reach out to Robo Robo Rock to see if they'll send me
16:40
their newest model I hope they do um I haven't used one that does like a really super good job but they all do a a job
16:47
good enough because they they run every single day and so they pick up enough stuff that you just basically don't have
16:53
to vacuum very often um but anyway if you have it's not about doing a perfect job it's about doing
16:59
about doing a little bit of vacuuming when you don't want to yeah I feel like you could use kind of like that same
17:04
philosophy for this show we're not kind of do it perfectly but we'll be consistent you know like we'll show up
17:10
and if we make a mistake we'll fix maybe we're not the perfect Apple podcast but you you'll learn something you'll
17:16
definitely learn something least one thing every 90 minutes I think that's true I think that is true and you know it's like what what I always say it's
17:21
like we may not be the most accurate we may not be the most studious but no one's having more fun than us I think
17:28
that's 100% true I mean if you listened to the talk show for an entire year if you heard one laugh I would be surprised
17:35
by that so yeah all right cool man I think you sold me the fur zapper I'm
17:41
gonna guess know the original one that I bought a few years ago was the same brand it might just be like a thing that they repackage but you know they're
17:47
selling them and K man from the chat says the first app was worth the price of admission this
17:52
week see like this is why I love talking about products just in general because
17:57
you try something out you know it's like you find something that actually works that will help people and you get to tell people about it let's see fur
18:04
zapper and I always love hearing about that kind of stuff okay dude you can get uh you can get a whole four pack now I
18:12
have to admit I'm looking at this on on Amazon not the best reviews not the best
18:18
reviews but you know it's it sure sells a lot I wonder if people have their
18:25
expectations are just too too high like they think that it's going to you know get rid of all the fur but even if it
18:31
only did 70 0% and it reduced your problem by 70 0% like I I think that's a big
18:37
win okay for a zapper you can get a four pack on Amazon for 24 bucks oh wait a
18:45
second yeah they're also not very expensive say no or you can get a two pack for $9 how does that work this is
18:51
obviously the much better deal because a four pack here would be $18 okay who wants to go next leis you
19:02
want me you know I just feel so inadequate I don't have like a list of 27 things like Griffin well I'll talk about something
19:08
I've talked about on this show before while you gather your courage to go next
19:14
this is going to be a pick and an anti-pick uh you know I've talked about
19:19
it so much already on the show maybe not enough but I'm going to talk a little bit more about my Fujifilm X100 VI the
19:27
x00 six I love this camera and I hate this camera I I I actually even thought
19:33
about uh selling it to be honest with you hottest camera of the year you know
19:39
backlogged for for months if you buy one good luck getting it in even 2025 I
19:45
would say Tik Tok blew this camera up people love it Mega hyped the most hyped
19:50
camera of all time and I was on the waiting list as many of you know for months and months and months probably
19:56
like eight months before I got mine just absolutely absurd and there are things I like about this
20:02
camera like the size of it it is so lightweight and easy to carry I love the integrated flash I think it works really
20:10
well I like that the lens is small and compact the whole camera is Compact and it's just easy to carry around but this
20:17
camera I just feel like has so many weird quirks it's autofocus autofocusing
20:23
system is like schizophrenic which I think you could say about many Fuji
20:29
cameras um it's just kind of like an odd camera um it it I think it's meant and
20:34
I've said this before it's meant for people who are like out in nature going to take a picture of something far away
20:40
that's not moving it's like then it does that great it's got an absolutely beautiful 40 megapixel U
20:46
apsc um camera sensor which is super high resolution for the size I love all
20:51
the switches and manual dials on it although they are a bit confusing at times I have to say even though I like
20:57
this kind of Orient and have owned it on other Fujifilm cameras on this camera I
21:02
find it to be rather confusing sometimes but the big thing that may get me to
21:08
sell this camera and it's not something I ever hear anyone talk about and this is a
21:13
problem I've never experienced before on any camera it almost makes me wonder if there's a problem with my camera is the
21:19
white balance and exposure um on the LCD screen on and on
21:25
the interior um electronic viewfinder are not the same which is a huge problem
21:32
and it's not one that I've ever experienced before so when you look in your viewfinder and you take a picture
21:37
and then the picture comes out the picture looks different than on the viewfinder now I'm going to caveat this whole conversation with I know that you
21:43
could adjust these things and I have tried to adjust them so that the electronic viewfinder and the LCD screen
21:49
look the same I cannot get them to match they should have come matching from the factory there's no reason that they should ever look different because which
21:56
one do you trust you take a picture well is the LCD screen right or is the is is the evf or the electronic viewfinder
22:03
right I don't know so I'm like trying to Tinker with these things and I also
22:08
don't understand why the image that I'm seeing inside of the viewfinder is
22:13
different than the image that is being portrayed once the image has been captured it's a huge problem and I'm
22:19
trying to figure out how to dial it out but I have not yet been able to do that I have another Fujifilm camera the xs20
22:25
which is bigger than the X X100 VI but is I think Superior in many ways which I
22:33
won't go into here um although it is a lot heavier so you're not getting the same level of compact camera so I don't
22:39
know man like I so far I love this camera I'll probably be making more content on this camera um but if the
22:45
pictures you take don't match the pictures that you're trying to take I think that's just an immediate non-starter that's it's failing at its
22:53
purpose as a camera which is to take pictures but I don't know if it's user error if it's something I should be able
22:59
to dial out or if it's an actual camera problem I don't know yet so that's what I'm trying to figure out cu I did just
23:04
get it and I'm trying to use it more and more often there are other things like they have made some design compromises
23:10
in order to keep the camera as small like its batter is the older version of the Fujifilm camera battery which is
23:15
just not great doesn't last very long you can see if you're watching the live stream or the video uh watch after
23:22
coast.com by the way that has a very small camera grip which makes the camera uncomfortable to hold unless you have
23:29
like a strap or something on it so there's just a lot of compromises and maybe the camera is just not for me maybe if you have small Alexy Heath
23:35
hands then this camera is perfect for you and there are a lot of things I do like about it um I love the camera
23:41
filters I do like the manual controls to a certain degree like I said I love the flash so I'm kind of like on the fence
23:48
whether or not I I even want to keep this camera but so far I'm just not as impressed as I thought I was going to be
23:56
because I think I asked you this question when you first got it but I think I'm going to ask you again now that you've had like a few more weeks to
24:01
ruminate on it yeah what benefit do you think this camera has over the iPhone
24:08
because I think that any full-size camera has to justify its existence over the iPhone or be like significantly
24:13
better in one in a few key ways like it doesn't seem to take higher res that much higher resolution pictures on the
24:19
iPhone because you can take 48 megapixel shots on the iPhone it doesn't have much more zoom than the iPhone because it has
24:25
a fixed lens it's actually way worse in in the zoom capacity in fact when I I have found when using this in small
24:31
spaces you you it's just really hard to use because you can't zoom in or out you have a fixed lens which you know is part
24:38
of the magic of the camera as well because it you have to move your body and frame the image so that you are
24:46
using your creativity to frame the image and not just zooming in and out but to your question I mean it's a good
24:51
question I would say the number one reason why people buy these cameras over the iPhone is because in the right
24:56
conditions the IM that you get out of this camera far exceeds anything the
25:01
iPhone could create but the caveat is you have to be in the right conditions like the iPhone is a Swiss army knife it
25:08
takes really it takes pleasing images in almost every lighting condition especially the iPhone 16 it's just so
25:14
good now but in a lot of instances I think that the iPhone
25:20
produces images that are like too sharp looking or the um depth of field is too
25:27
low and you could use like the faked up the field that that iOS includes I don't think it looks nearly as good as a
25:33
camera that actually does that optically um and just the quality of the
25:38
colors and the quality of the image of itself I mean this camera will blow the iPhone
25:44
away but sometimes that stuff is not as
25:49
important as the versatility of the iPhone like in a high Dynamic image or
25:55
uh a lighting scenario the iPhone takes good images I mean if you're in the
26:00
shade and it's really bright behind the shade the iPhone is going to expose that image properly because of its
26:06
computational HDR and the Fujifilm or any other camera can't do that and so
26:13
there are scenarios where I would actually prefer to use the iPhone and the iPhone is also just easy to use and
26:18
it's with you and the I think the user experience like the UI of the zoom between the three lenses on the iPhone
26:26
is probably one of the easiest to use most genious UI mechanisms that have
26:31
ever been devised it's almost like the inertial scrolling or the the the pull
26:36
to refresh on the iPhone those things were so ingenious that they kind of changed cameras and phones because they
26:45
were just so easy to use and so intuitive and I think that that little scroll wheel that you get on the iPhone
26:52
is one of those things it makes it so easy to control the zoom in and out no other camera or no other phone that I've
26:58
seen gets anywhere close to that and so it just makes it a versatile tool and this camera has a lot of limitations
27:05
that make it harder to use like you have to really there are instances where I
27:10
have to force myself to use it because I have it um but like I said when it is in the right situation which are many
27:16
situations the images are unbeatable like it looks so much better than the iPhone and and and you can obviously see
27:23
it so I don't know man but it's an expensive camera at $1,600 and that's if you get from a retailer and aren't
27:29
buying it you know Black Market which I wouldn't recommend doing I mean hey if you're not happy with it you can sell it
27:36
and probably make money ultimately because you could probably sell it for could sell it yeah I probably could sell it for $2,000 Dipsy do from the chat did
27:43
I just walk into another Apple should make a camera rant I think Apple should make a camera and I think that they
27:48
might they might actually they do eventually do it oh give me a break you know what I mean but I mean I hear that
27:55
they're thinking about making a smart doorbell which I would also love I just I don't know if there's a big enough
28:01
market for Apple to enter the actual camera space but Apple's computational
28:06
HDR paired with higher end sensors and
28:11
uh an actual lens I think would be absolutely killer no one is doing computational HDR like apple does look
28:18
what they're able to accomplish with a phone with a teeny tiny little sensor and those teeny tiny little lenses like
28:23
imagine that but in a real camera it would absolutely destroy no one would be able to get anywhere were close to it
28:29
but I think that they're victim of their own success like I don't know if cameras
28:34
are a big enough market for them because of the iPhone that it's worth them
28:39
entering but I don't know so I'm going to continue using the X100 6 I feel like
28:47
I need to give it more time and maybe eventually I'll fall in love with it but I've been so I've been surprised so far
28:53
by how annoyed I am by its quirks and like I I said this before maybe I didn't
28:59
articulate it very well but it's just not a very it's not a good tool for
29:06
people who have fast moving subjects or any kind of like I would say challenging
29:11
photography situation where things are moving all around or you need to rely on your autofocus it's more of like a consumer
29:18
grade camera where your subjects are stationary and you have time to plan and
29:25
like take your shot but if you don't have time if you need to react quickly this camera is really not that good at
29:31
doing those things and that's a lot of scenarios so it it it limits its utility
29:38
in my opinion but it is beautiful and that and and that counts for a lot you
29:43
know when you have something that is in your hands that you enjoy looking at so there is some stuff to love about it but
29:48
I just it's so so far I'm just not not super is this what I've been showing on the live stream this whole time my
29:54
goodness that was a mistake anyway that's my pick and my antick
29:59
2024 L what do you got uh I'm G to talk about something we
30:06
talked about previously too little TV show called Fallout love that thing I forgot dude I forgot that show was this
30:13
year it seems like so long ago and it was such a it came out like what in April or something like that yeah such a
30:20
great show you know like like I said on a previous show I never played the game so to me it was all
30:26
completely new and original and I just I just love that show it was what do we
30:33
tell people I mean it's it's about you know another po post-apocalyptic people living in a silo kind of thing but it's
30:40
funny and creative and the acting's great the writing's great it's just just
30:46
great and unlike Apple TV plus I believe it was all released at one time so you
30:52
could actually just watch it or did I did I just wait till it was done I I just cannot do the one week at a time
30:58
thing anymore I'm so sick and tired of that in fact if one of the worst things of the year is Apple continuing to do
31:04
that release shows one weekend I I I go and look at the Apple TV Plus app and
31:09
they're all these shows that I've started watching but I haven't completed because the end didn't arrive at a
31:16
convenient time right it's so much better we can just watch the whole thing you know like wait n weeks to start two
31:22
batches yeah but then you're perpetually behind like you know what's current I know I I realiz they're trying trying to
31:28
drive interest and all that but I think they're just trying to keep you in the sub in the subscription right if they
31:34
release it all at one time then you just get their subscription for a month you watch the whole show and then you cancel
31:39
I'm I'm trying to watch I was trying to watch Silo this week and I was like oh it's not Friday yet the episode's not
31:46
out so I can't watch it yet I know they they keep you in there well is it that
31:51
or right I I mean maybe that's probably part of it but I also think they want to uh you know promote each episode somehow
31:57
you know like I think they the Apple PR looks at it as a 10 week uh promo period
32:03
rather than you know like oh it's one and done not that they couldn't go ahead and promote it over 10 weeks or even the
32:08
whole entire year right but yeah I mean you got in the chat saying one week at a time is best creates discussion among
32:15
friends yeah maybe it creates disgust among people who love the show and can't tune in once
32:21
a week yeah it is I mean especially if you're watching it with another like your wife or some other person right
32:26
then it's like got to figure out a convenient time to watch that during that week as opposed to just hey we got
32:33
nothing to do this weekend let's watch uh four episodes on Friday and then it was so good let's watch the other four episodes the next day that's what always
32:40
happens with us and in fact that hasn't happened with a show in a long time you know with as much as Fallout I mean we
32:47
were both like so into watching it we just couldn't stop watching it she never played the game either
32:53
obviously but well you should I mean I don't know if you G but the Fallout games are really terrific I wouldn't I
33:00
wouldn't maybe touch Fallout 76 I haven't played it I've heard it has a lot of problems and it doesn't it's not
33:06
like traditional Fallout I'd probably start with Fallout 3 or maybe even Fallout 4 but the games are just like
33:13
the show but I think even better I think the show does a pretty good job at
33:19
bringing you into the world of Fallout but that world is even better in the
33:25
game I I I think like I I don't think they quite nailed it at least they haven't yet and I I also feel like
33:31
they're kind of retconning some of the stuff within the game which I don't love and I don't really love that um they are
33:39
making Walton Walton goggin's character like the Fallout guy like and all the
33:44
little statues and stuff I'm like I don't really know if I love that cuz it's kind of messing with the lore a little bit but um they did do a pretty
33:52
good job I completely forgot that show was 2024 I know it seems like forever ago we
33:57
were talking about it yeah it was a while ago because I think it came out at the beginning of the year April April
34:05
two oh really was it that long you know it's uh I was doing a little research on that looks like season two possibly next
34:12
year but most likely 2026 what why are they waiting so long I hate it when they
34:18
do that I mean yeah well forget I mean there's all kinds of problems right uh
34:25
in the research that I did it said oh they shot it and it took like a year in post production wow so for the first
34:33
season they just started filming Dipsy dooo from the chat wow in November or something so wow that's wild we we don't
34:40
need really to talk more about it right like what it is if you like if you like kind of goofy it's kind of com sci-fi
34:48
comedy with over-the-top cartoon violence whatever I mean I thought it was great watch the engaging the the
34:56
teaser that Apple put out for severance they put out like the first I think they just like that that they have a put out a preview that's just the first eight
35:03
minutes yeah they've been doing that lately I refuseed to do I mean come on yeah I'm going to watch eight minutes
35:08
and then I'm going to wait another month to see the the final 42 minutes screw
35:14
you Apple PR come on I watched it I thought it was good I'm excited haven't watched it yet I don't know it feels
35:21
those of you that missed it uh Griffin was just saying they they released is it like the first eight minutes of the episode yeah okay I heard like five
35:28
minutes of it was just the guy running around in the hallway yeah it's a big hallway yeah it
35:35
is aason started too I watched the first trailer for it and I was very excited I can't wait for S to come back it's one
35:41
that's one of my favorite shows I mean if I had a I I like it way better in fact I just started rewatching the first
35:47
season because it it was such a it's such a weird show it's like wow I
35:53
mean I I just remember being so constantly amazed and and and just just
35:59
constantly feel like wow it's so creative I would have never thought of somebody doing that it's just it's just
36:05
so it just seems smart you know uh and and when that that came out in 2021 so
36:10
it's definitely not the best of this year w wow that's wild I didn't realized it was that long ago yeah and it it it
36:16
feels so fresh in my mind still yeah fresh in your mind let me make sure
36:22
I'm I'm not 100% sure 2022 because I remember watching it at work at my old job
36:28
oh okay but still it's it's been several years I I guess what I was uh I was
36:34
going by it's been a three-year Gap and of course I can't do the math in my head
36:39
because we're noted this idea to Lewis but I want to pitch it to you as well if all right L on how do you feel about
36:45
doing for off topics as season two is going on we just do 10 weeks of like
36:51
post episode discussions like that sort of thing I would be fine with that I guess my only concern would be a lot of
36:56
people that listen to the show May not have watched the content and I know for me I don't want to listen to shows if I
37:03
haven't watched the episode yet because I don't want to hear spoilers so I feel like we would be limiting who could
37:10
actually listen to us talk about stuff that be that would be my only concern well the good news is that you won't
37:16
release them until what 202 touche Louis touche so like it will
37:23
be at least a year after the episode has come out so yeah at that point be a safe dist
37:28
well we got Ben far from the chat he's feeling weird he says he he uh he's
37:35
listened to every podcast we've ever done this is the first time tuning in live and probably seeing our faces wow I
37:42
know sorry and he's not sure how he feels about us now that he's seeing our
37:47
faces who can blame him this is why it's best just to keep listening Ben it was a mistake now he's all caught up and he's
37:53
going to have to wait a week between every episode but you know what once you get used to this once you get used to
37:59
these faces and I know it takes time because they're all so chiseled Louis's goatee is always so finely
38:04
tuned and then you it starts to grow on you and then you can't imagine listening
38:10
without yeah without the faces you know such just takes a little while to get used to it okay great pick Lewis great
38:17
pick indeed Griffin sending it about to you we're really like an hour in we've
38:22
only done one pick each this is this is a bit of an off-the-wall pick oh you know what Weir
38:29
than thepp I mean hey that's a product that people can buy yeah okay let me tell you
38:36
about this I when I moved out here to the middle of nowhere uh you know I I
38:42
took a big hit culinarily because you know there's there's not a lot of restaurants around here there's like a Mexican restaurant within reasonable
38:49
driving distance there's like a Chinese restaurant but I happened to move
38:56
within somewhat reasonable proximity to one of my favorite pizza places which is called
39:01
Romeo's Pizza which is a chain that's uh I had only seen around like northeastern
39:07
Ohio so I was surprised to find it kind of where I am in like the central farmlands of like Western Ohio but they
39:13
have they have an insane deal I don't know how long this has been going on but
39:19
they have an insane deal every Tuesday you can just buy a buy a pizza and get an entire second large pizza completely
39:27
free like just straight up buy one get one I feel like I feel like uh uh Domino's
39:33
pretty much has that deal just running all the time well you know what but unlike dominoes this is actually like really good high quality pizza I've
39:39
never seen like a boutique dare you it's like these aren't cheap pizzas like it like a large pizza with one topping is
39:46
like you know $17 not not the cheapest that's pretty much every Pizza in Seattle yeah yeah that's actually cheap
39:52
yeah well in Ohio that's that's an expensive pizza because you know every Ohio
39:58
but you know this is good pizza and it's just like straight up 50% of it is free
40:03
and I imagine they expect you to like you know buy soda or like buy cheese bread or garlic bread or whatever and
40:09
like you know that's the stuff that they actually make their money on I'm probably one of the only people who like just goes there to buy two
40:16
pizzas only spend like literally half as much as I should and just walk out the door and I do that with uh alarming
40:23
regularity and you know what then I've got four or five meals for for only $16
40:28
it's in it's genuinely insane you working the system yeah I don't like it's not exactly a secret deal like they
40:36
if you sign up for their emailing list which you're compelled to do when you order from them they tell you about it
40:41
every Tuesday and it's not like a hidden coupon code it's just like b OO when you do their online ordering system and then
40:48
all right you get an entire free pizza it's it's crazy I can't believe it I
40:53
genuinely cannot believe that they still do it all the time I'm happy for you sounds like a great deal and who doesn't
40:59
love free pizza man I mean and it's excellent pizza and it's excellent pizza I mean well as far as Midwestern pan
41:06
pizza goes okay it is hard to find great pizza there are a few places here in Seattle that claim to do great pizza and
41:13
they charge you know great prices for that great pizza and they're okay but I always get a lot of heat for preferring
41:20
Costco pizza I think in our area Costco makes one of the best pizzas and they
41:26
also if you get them on the right day they'll make one that's rather thin crust that's almost like a Brooklyn style pizza which is the closest that
41:32
you can actually get to Brooklyn style that I've seen in Seattle there's probably places that I haven't heard of and it's $10 for an absolutely enormous
41:39
pie those those pizzas are definitely unbeatable in the price Department dude well I mean even the flavor Department
41:46
like this is where I get the heat man everyone agrees on the price but on the flavor you know people you know sputter
41:52
and make all sorts of throat noises and roll their eyes but it's okay hey it's nothing special I mean it's pretty good
42:00
except it's pretty good A lot of the fancier places I go to like I said like
42:05
they they're they're okay but a lot of times you get like a dry Pizza a lot of pizza places like don't do sauce for
42:11
some reason and yet they're still like $25 there's a place okay I'll call them out I'm calling them
42:17
out the following sentiments are my personal opinion and you are welcome to disagree
42:24
there's a really popular place called pgly achis here in Seattle and their
42:31
pizzas are $25 $30 I mean they're super expensive for one pizza for a couple
42:37
pizzas you could you could you could easily spend $780 there if you wanted to and they're decent pizzas and they're
42:43
thin crust but they also have a lot of pizzas that don't have any sauce on them their their dough which I think makes or
42:50
breaks the pizza right is I would say decent but not anything to write Alex he
42:57
Alex e Heath's mother about I write her about other things but not the pizza and
43:03
so for that much money to get a pizza like that that that is I would say very
43:08
common in this area something that's really expensive that is um I think the sentiment is that it
43:15
must be high quality because it's it cost so much money but then you go there and you're like this is not nearly as good as the price would have me believe
43:21
that it would be even the pictures on their website don't look that good it just looks like an ordinary Pizza I
43:26
would rate their Pizza like seven out of 10 and there are other places I could talk about but like in
43:32
the Costco experience like I would say is probably a solid seven possibly an eight if you get one fresh out of the
43:39
oven that's the key you got to get one fresh once it's not fresh like if it's older than like five minutes it goes
43:45
from a seven or an eight down to probably a five and they don't they don't reheat well man there's something
43:50
about getting it fresh and so sometimes when you go there they'll try to like you go order pizza and they'll try to
43:56
grab one off the top the Shelf that's been sitting there and I'm like I'm like put the brakes on that my friend I'm
44:02
going to I'm going to wait until that one comes out of the oven I'm like I want a fresh one if you give me a fresh one I will stand even if I have to wait
44:08
10 minutes I will stand here and wait you know what among the Mendy travesties that Little Caesar's commits I
44:15
think uh second to the travesty that is the pizza itself very close second is
44:20
the fact that they mark it as being hot and ready but it's only ever one of the two either you get there at the exact
44:28
either you get there uh when they have a backup of pizzas and and so they're ready but they're not hot because
44:34
they've been sitting on a counter for like who know who knows how long or you get there through the drive-thru and
44:39
they're like oh we don't have any pizzas you have to wait like 20 minutes so it's hot but it's not ready it is very rarely
44:45
ever both I don't want my pizza that's a great Point first of all I don't want my
44:50
pizza to be hot and ready because I used I've worked at a lot of restaurants in my life you know what they do to keep it
44:56
hot they keep it under lamps you want it to be ready and you want it to be ready when you get there because if it's hot
45:02
and it's been sitting there hot for like 15 minutes well it's ready for you to be disappointed because all the moisture
45:08
has been evaporated it's just it's just turning into Sho leather slowly it's like glass is actually a liquid right if
45:15
you press your finger into it it takes 100 years and your finger will actually go through that's what's happening with pizza it's slowly going from Pizza to
45:22
cardboard now it happens really fast up front and then it happens slowly and there's a window of about 5 minutes when
45:29
that thing comes out of the oven where it it's at its peak tastiness and if you don't get it in that window well then
45:36
you've just wasted your money in my opinion and you're you're wasting your life there's no reason to get pizza that
45:41
is old Sho leather because if you ask them for a fresh one especially at Costco they'll give you anything we're
45:47
going way on we're we're going on way too long about this but I just one last quick thing so we had a
45:54
pizza and we put it in the bottom of the car cuz we were on our way out and I had to take the pizza to go and I was
46:00
pushing pushing pushing you know like and the parking lot is Bumpy so the Box slowly made its way like to the front of
46:07
like the cart and then it just went just got sucked right under oh like a man being pulled into a jet engine and I the
46:14
cart went I was like what is going on I just run over a child and I look and sure enough the pizza has been uh upside
46:22
down and run over by the cart so smashed into the pavement we ran over the box
46:28
and and I was like oh my gosh you know so I went back in and I was like we just ran over our pizza like can I have a and
46:35
the guy didn't even let me finish he's like let me get you another one you know boom hot pizza right out of the oven
46:40
Costa Costco will do anything to make you happy I could tell other stories but that's not what we're here to do all
46:47
right you know what yeah you guys been talking about these pizza places I got to talk about a pizza
46:53
place that I started going to this year doesn't have to go forever but this place is great sure it's called Slice House you ever been to one I don't know
46:59
if they're in any of you I don't think there's any no but the fact that they're even called Slice House tells me all I need to know it's Brooklyn style it well
47:07
it's it's all kinds of things have you ever heard of Tony jimani oh my gosh look at that slice no I have this guy
47:13
this guy is like you know award-winning pizza maker he's he's got he's got a shop in uh or a restaurant in North
47:20
Beach in San Francisco that's I think that's where he started out uh and it's I think that one's just called uh Jim
47:26
and y I can't remember exactly Jani look at this guy man you know that guy make a pizza then he starts he starts
47:33
franchising these Slice House locations right and for for some God unknown
47:38
reason my wife gets her haircut like a half an hour from our house I live in a major city right I mean there's I she
47:44
could probably get her haircut 20 feet from our house no has to has to go down to uh what I even remember what the town
47:51
is somewhere down on the pen great but the one thing that makes it worthwhile is there's a slice house right across
47:57
the street and so now every time we go down there we go over and get a couple
48:02
slices of pizza and split them and it's it's the best so they they make multiple
48:08
kinds they make uh New York style th crust whatever we you know we get one of those those uh Sicilian style that's
48:15
kind of a lot of bread I don't know not my favorite grandma style I don't know pan fried thin crust it's okay interesting the Detroit the Detroit
48:23
style oh my fre you like the thick one huh that is that
48:29
is those Detroit style pizzas that they make are like the best pizzas I've ever
48:35
gotten Pizza on top of a cake it's it's got It's got you see that brown stuff on
48:40
the edges that's that's cheese it's like melted melted swiss cheese I mean that
48:46
is on par with the deep dish uh you know pizzas you get in Chicago it's got that
48:52
much super tomatoey flavor and just oh my God so it oh man if you're these
48:58
ingredients look good too like they've got a lot of variety on here and they've got some toppings that really pair well
49:06
together yeah I mean you can order whole pizzas but we always just go in and get a slice and you you walk in and they'll have like one or two New York style ones
49:13
one Gran granny style one Sicilian one Detroit so you know you kind of limit it
49:19
or whatever if you don't want to get a whole pizza but yeah so your there to
49:24
get a haircut they seem to only be in California sorry I didn't either one so go ahead
49:30
Griffin go for it so when your wife goes in for a haircut do they cut all both of your hairs for
49:36
free no they would probably charge $100 for that too oh you
49:42
know dude I could do a whole podcast on Pizza I seriously we could start like a whole show where all we do is talk about
49:48
pizza in fact uh Dave pornoy uh from bartool isn't that his
49:53
thing like doesn't he just do like I eat pizza at different places and just talk about the pizza I I could I could do that for sure I could do that for sush
50:00
Sushi I can do it for pizza there's a bunch of food genres that I could just
50:06
go eat and just I wouldn't even talk it would just be like
50:11
like I got to tell you man ever since I discovered this I'm a whole lot less Drive the wife down
50:18
there this makes it worthwhile it's worth driving a half an hour too yeah dude now you're making me hungry for pizza I'm going to Costco later today
50:24
actually so but God this place looks great Lewis I've never heard of it sadly
50:31
um you have pitched something that I can't experience so thanks for ruining my life I think there's one in Vegas oh
50:38
great well let me drive there yeah yeah it's right now it's mostly West Coast yeah they got a ton of them in
50:44
California La San Francisco got franchise opportunities maybe I should open one yeah honestly like it's so good
50:50
and and you walk in there you see these big bags of their flower right in the back they just kind of sitting around and all this stuff you're like man I I
50:57
wonder how much they teach you about this like because it has to be I have his uh cookbook called you know the
51:04
pizza Bible or something like that right and uh you know the basic crust like oh you make it you let it sit for two days
51:11
you do this you know all it's not like just a simple thing right I mean to make
51:16
it that good you got to follow certain rules and yeah I mean I I it's a
51:22
franchise but man it's good I don't know I that's the only one I've been to I mean I've the one in North Beach is good
51:28
but I've never been to one in you know LA or Vegas or whatever okay dude they've got one called the panti it's on
51:34
like Brooklyn style crust dude this thing so tomato sauce mozzarella pepperoni we're already looking good
51:41
lingu lingua is that like spicy sausage yeah I think that's a I can't remember I
51:48
don't know what that is Torito I think that is spicy sausage ricotta oh man banana peppers oh dude I love banana
51:54
peppers calibra Peppers it's like spicy peppers Serrano chilies green onions oh
52:01
my goodness and chalula they got chalula on it that one's GNA light you up buddy
52:06
yeah that's gonna burn on the way in and the way out you gota be careful of that that chalula stuff is no joke man and it
52:12
tastes so good and my kids always chastise me now when they see me using hot sauce they're like don't eat too
52:17
much of that you're going to be up you know at 4 a.m. the volcano is going to erupt yeah
52:25
oh man all right well I did not expect to talk about
52:30
pizza and I am now very pizza I'll be ordering it on Tuesday okay I'm getting
52:36
Costco today just think how nice it be if you could just sit and listen to an off-topic podcast and eat your free
52:41
pizza on a Tuesday that's that's the life right there who's next is it me all
52:47
right I got so much I can talk about I finally did it after watching all of
52:54
the best out takes of of Matthew Barry uh from the
53:01
toast of London you guys have all heard me talk about him um I just been watching like people keep putting
53:07
together like these um mega clips of like Matthew Barry segments from like these different shows and he's also been
53:14
on um well there's a show that I think it's I think it's even still ongoing called what we do in the
53:19
shadows which is this jine Clement SL um
53:26
oh God who was the director of um the new Thor movies um I can never remember
53:33
that guy's name what Wati or something uh taka watiti right I think that's how
53:39
you say tati he's on it too Matthew ber and I finally got a subscription to Hulu
53:46
which is where you can watch the show because Hulu and Disney plus were doing a promotion where they give you both for
53:53
$3 a month for the for the first year so I was like dang this is too good to pass up what is it you get what and what it
53:59
was like a it was like a Black Friday promotion I think it might even still be ongoing I talked about it here on the show $3 a month for Hulu and Disney plus
54:07
it's the ad supported which I actually hate Tao Titi thank you Jose in the chat
54:14
I actually um hate ads in shows they're so intrusive and pull you out of the
54:22
experience but whatever it's $3 a month so I've been watching I've been watching what we do in the shadows and it's I
54:29
mean it's exactly what I would expect it to be it's quirky and uh entertaining
54:36
and Matthew Barry's in it and he's probably like one of my favorite characters and and as much as I've
54:41
enjoyed it I would I would also I I it's I'm kind of surprised that I don't
54:47
really laugh that often like I actually haven't found it to be funny like I have
54:52
found it to be amusing and I watch it I'm like oh that's interesting or that's kind of funny but like I never actually
54:58
laugh and so as much as as I've been enjoying it I've also been slightly
55:04
disappointed by it because I having watched all these Matthew Barry Clips they are edited in such a way
55:10
where you get like the cream of the crop like and the reactions that he has to many situations are really funny but
55:16
like when you see those reactions in context in the in the show for some reason they're just not as funny and
55:23
there's a lot of humor in it that just doesn't resonate with me um and I feel like sometimes it's being quirky or
55:29
ironic just for like you know to be quirky quirky or ironic like it's trying a little too hard but I still find
55:37
myself compelled to watch it like I'm still enjoying it I just wish it were funnier and I'm only in season two so
55:42
I'm still kind of early in I think there's like six seasons and I don't even know now we have to look it up well
55:47
the I was say the episode of Mark Hill is absolutely hilarious oh there's an episode with with okay oh yeah he has a
55:53
guest spot in a great episode on that okay so maybe it's get better um it's on
55:59
FX by the way let's see can I pull this up and I know I feel like I'm being too hard on it like it it is a good show and
56:05
I do find it to be entertaining and so far it's definitely been worth watching
56:11
I just am surprised that I don't think it's funnier now I should also add I
56:16
find that it is actually kind of hard to make me laugh I wish I laughed more easily at these types of
56:23
things and and maybe that's surprising to people maybe because when we're in this show I feel like I laugh a lot but we're having
56:30
conversations and I find our conversations to be funny or amusing sometimes but like when I watch stuff by
56:35
myself like I actually find like it's really difficult for me to find something funny there's just not a lot
56:41
of shows out there that I have actually laughed really hard at and I wish that
56:46
were not true I wish it were easier to make me laugh I I feel like being someone who's easy to laugh is actually
56:52
a gift because you get to enjoy everything so much more but so yeah I'm watching the show I started watching it
56:58
this year it's obviously not new to this year although they do have new seasons this year um yeah so it's still ongoing
57:03
they are on what season are the end now season six I think season six is ongoing
57:10
this year I say it makes a big difference like watching something with a group of people versus watching it
57:16
alone I can watch the exact same thing in a theater like with a bunch of people and you know laughed up like man one I
57:22
think the most one of the most seminal like one of the most like awesome memorable movements in a movie theater
57:30
was watching like Star Wars the Force awakens in 2015 on opening night like man that was an electric crowd everybody
57:36
was like laughing at every joke you know and then you rewatch it and it's like oh that's amusing kind of kind of in the
57:42
same way you know and uh let's see here we got Matthew drco in the chat saying
57:48
is this like a reboot of Dark Shadows I think it is I think it was actually I
57:53
think that that was a movie wasn't it and I think it was made by Jamaine Clement and then
58:00
they turned it into a show I think Dark Shadows is really old is it okay so
58:07
maybe that's not I maybe there was a reboot of it or something but I mean there was a movie called what we do in
58:12
the shadows okay so that's what it is it's a it's a a show version of that movie and for those of you that know
58:18
nothing about it it's a show about these ancient vampires all living in a house
58:24
together um contending with the realities of Modern Life like the
58:30
ancient Romanticism of their past lives are just gone and now they're living in like this
58:36
modern world where people just don't believe that vampires exist and and yet
58:42
they are all um they have a lot of elements of their personalities that
58:49
miss those older ages where they used to live because they were just more romantic and they could get away with
58:54
killing more people and it's just the what is it like to be a vampire and exist in the vampire
59:00
community and there's a lot of absurdity community a lot of the comedy comes from
59:05
like what does it to mean to be a member of the vampire Community right like they have like their own community and laws and police force and like all this stuff
59:13
that you just didn't know about and um and I think that creates a lot of the humor and there's like different kind of
59:19
vampires that you didn't realize exist which I won't talk about because I don't want to spoil it for you but there's
59:24
different kinds of V Empires and not just like the blood sucking kinds um so
59:31
in that way it's also kind of funny and the show is also highly sexualized
59:37
because like the vampires are like you know they have absolutely no morals they just do whatever they want all the time
59:42
because they're like these evil creatures and morality is not a thing for them so they just do whatever Pleasures them um which puts them into
59:49
like sometimes awkward scenarios they also have like this ongoing um this how do I describe this
59:57
they have like this ancient ongoing um um what do I call it
1:00:06
uh um I want to say issue that's not the word I'm looking for
1:00:11
but what is it when like when two families are like opposed to each other
1:00:17
um like like a feud a feud thank you an ongoing ancient Feud with like the
1:00:23
werewolf community so they're always like battling each other and like having like these stupid fights with one
1:00:28
another so some of that stuff is really funny but anyway I've been watching that show and so far I like it a lot but I
1:00:36
just wish it were a little funnier but I'm looking forward to the Mark H
1:00:42
episode okay who's next
1:00:48
Griffin no l turn oh
1:00:53
geeez jez if you have nothing L you can pass it well you know what I'm going to talk
1:01:00
about something because this is a surprise to me this this year I I I actually I received this as a you know
1:01:07
review unit or whatever and I didn't ask for it it just I just got it and I was like oh God I I almost didn't take it
1:01:14
out of the box I was like what is what is this it it's the anchor was the
1:01:19
number I had it up here they don't put the numbers on there or if they do it's too small anchor 733 powerbank JN Prime
1:01:26
power core 65 watt dude their Prime stuff is nice this thing it is nice it's
1:01:32
and you know I was like well who wants a power bank that's that big and that heavy well it's it's also got the little
1:01:39
flip out plug-in switch right so you can use as a charger you can charge up to three things at one time it's got two
1:01:46
USBC and one usba sorry Le what was the name again anchor 733 power bank you're
1:01:53
733 I got it you got it yeah and uh like I said I I was I was
1:02:00
not thinking I was going to like this but I found it to be incredibly useful when traveling uh because it's got it
1:02:06
holds a lot of power you can always charge your phone up uh you can share it with other people you know if like your
1:02:12
one of your traveling companions didn't bring a charger it's got enough juice you can charge up multiple phones at
1:02:18
once get back to your hotel room or airport lounge or whatever you can plug it in the wall and charge stuff it
1:02:24
charges itself up it you know it's well built it's solid it's kind of heavy it's about the size it's smaller than an
1:02:29
iPhone but a lot thicker than an iPhone know probably about an inch thick it
1:02:34
really it it kind of shocked me at how useful it is and I even end up this is this sounds nuts I end up using this
1:02:40
around the house like if my phone gets drastically low and I'm like I got to go do something right now on the phone I'll
1:02:46
just plug it into this thing and carry it around rather than like having to sit right by a an outlet right anyway good
1:02:54
product one of the things that I was surprised by you know did not think it was gonna I I actually was almost like
1:03:00
why would anybody even make a product like this but the fact is if you have a you know like a Macbook that you need to
1:03:06
charge up this isn't that much bigger or heavier than a a Macbook charger plus it does all these other things very very
1:03:12
fast charging very very handy so I mean I like the fact that you sexy product
1:03:17
you know what though people sleep on their charging Tech which I think is a big mistake I think
1:03:23
that people don't think about upgrading their charging Tech and I have friends that have they'll use like that little
1:03:30
square charger iPhone charger from you know 15 years ago have an article about
1:03:35
why you should never use those anymore dude they're terrible and they're super slow they take forever and then I see
1:03:42
people use like those old like giant brick iPad chargers still and people tend to not want to spend money on their
1:03:48
charging Tech but dude look at your life how much stuff in your life needs to be charged and if you have a good charger
1:03:55
it can charge all your gadgets all at once at full speed and it has may have
1:04:00
other features which you know ankor usually builds into their Chargers so I
1:04:06
think it's worth spending some money on a good charger and not just use the ones that came with your phone or didn't come
1:04:11
with your phone anymore right they don't even include Chargers anymore so you got to buy your own and you might as well
1:04:17
buy a good one CU dude it's your it's your time like you're going to be sitting there waiting for your phone to charge and you could be out living your
1:04:25
life I mean how there's so many times where I want to use my phone and I I need it to charge quickly before I can
1:04:30
leave and so I love charging Tech I wish it were more popular I hesitate to talk about it because I feel like it bores
1:04:36
people but Anor sent me Anor Anor I can't I see I can't not do it anchor sent me two Chargers one I'm using on my
1:04:43
desk and another one that I'm using inside the house that I'll probably be talking about in the near future
1:04:49
there're they're fantastic devices and they make your life so much better and they charge your devices so much faster
1:04:55
it's totally worth it in my mind and the thing is shocking about anchor is just how much product they push out you know
1:05:01
it's it's like almost impossible to keep on tap on top of what's new what's
1:05:07
coming I mean they've got a whole bunch of different kinds of Power Banks um I mean this one I'm not even sure if this
1:05:12
one came out this year it might have been the end of last year but they have if you look at they they've got all
1:05:18
kinds you know a lot of them that have these these same kinds of capabilities that we that I was talking about even
1:05:25
more storage there's one in here 27 650 milliamp hours I mean good grief it's
1:05:32
almost like you could power your Tesla with it or something oh maybe for 30 seconds as long as you keep it under 25
1:05:39
get the blinkers working I mean it's awesome you know
1:05:44
because it's super easy to use super easy to charge I I the other day when my brakes went on I had to borrow my neighbor's car you know I'm like I don't
1:05:50
know what I I got to charge it my phone CU it's almost dead and I get I need to use it to you I can't can't use carplay
1:05:56
cuz this car doesn't have anything like that so I'm just going to have hold you know use the phone in in carplay mode I
1:06:01
just grabbed this thing and ran out to the hit the road great well I love that it it works as like a plug-in charger
1:06:07
and that also charges its own battery that's that's a really great idea yeah it's it's deceptively simple
1:06:14
isn't it uhhuh yes okay moving on Griffin I think we should
1:06:20
do one more each and then we should call it good because we could just keep going and keep going and keep going but now I'm hungry I want to go I'm extremely
1:06:27
hungry I wish it was Tuesday and I lived in Ohio I I I can't want to go to Ohio just
1:06:34
to try that pizza actually go to San Francisco first so I can try that place that you mentioned Slice
1:06:41
House what do you got for us Griffin all right I'm gonna end this on an anti-pick
1:06:46
okay I was trying to come up this I was trying to come up with one because you know we started this last year they they were their hit but you know I didn't
1:06:52
really not enjoy a lot this year but then realized I was missing the for the
1:06:58
forest for the trees and I looked up and I realized there was one thing that was like a rain cloud over all of 2024 for
1:07:06
me trying to buy a house is absolute is an absolute goddamn
1:07:14
nightmare let me tell you what I have okay I have I I work for CTO I have a
1:07:21
contract based job I basically guaranteed income much more so than a regular job job where they can just like
1:07:26
you know let you go on any old Tuesday and suddenly you have zero income so you would think that would help my case but
1:07:33
for some whatever reason it does not because they need I don't know I look I
1:07:39
I I'm also incredibly fortunate to be able to even consider this I have a good support system I have you know people
1:07:44
who who will help me through whatever place I I can put down a down payment I don't even want an especially nice house
1:07:51
I'm not looking for you know a quar million dollar whatever I I mean I'm trying to I'm trying to
1:07:57
move into akan you know akan isn't it's not
1:08:03
even yeah to akine exactly no nobody very few people
1:08:08
Aspire or dream to live an akan but it should be easy to move there but for
1:08:14
whatever reason oh well we need we need two years of financial history okay I'll give you Financial you're two years of
1:08:20
whatever taxes you need oh but your current job you've only worked at full-time in starting in 2023 not 2022
1:08:28
in 2022 you were only working at cul ofm parttime and you only made you know a
1:08:33
few hundred so technically from a legal perspective my income in over the last
1:08:39
two years averages out to only be like $700 a month which it is not I can
1:08:45
assure you that but I don't know I you know so then I run down the list of you
1:08:50
know all the family and friends and people who I am at least comfortable asking hey can you help me co-sign a
1:08:56
house because even though I have guaranteed income for the year for whatever reason the financial system
1:09:02
does not believe me and you know can you just like just put your put your name on a line and help me buy a house and you
1:09:08
know it is a lot to ask of people people are scared you know in this economy
1:09:14
whatever no so that that's how I ended up staying here in the middle of nowhere
1:09:20
for another calendar year but you can guarantee that on January 1st 2025 I'm
1:09:26
going to start running all of my taxes as early as I can to see if I can get approved and move out of here buying a
1:09:32
house it's a mess I I have I privileged enough to have it not be that big of a
1:09:38
nightmare I would think but what do you know I I can't get one whatever you know
1:09:44
what's funny is when we bought our house in Seattle a while ago I had I was kind
1:09:51
of technically a contractor although it was an open contract there was no end date and I was making more money than my
1:09:59
wife but our lender said that because they considered me to be a quote unquote
1:10:05
contract employee that they didn't that couldn't be used in the calculation so
1:10:11
they took my income out of the um the calculation because my wife was a
1:10:16
teacher and even though she made less than me it would be more likely for us
1:10:22
to get a loan if we didn't include my income at all and we only used her hers
1:10:27
and sure enough that's what happened and they gave us a loan based solely on her income even though that made like our
1:10:33
debt to income ratio much higher everything else and they would rather not count the money that I made even
1:10:41
though it obviously increased like our the stability of our financial position and only use hers which means that we
1:10:47
would be making you know less money on paper and then that's okay so the whole thing is totally bizarre I mean they
1:10:52
have all these like Arcane rules that you have to understand to get a loan yeah I don't even have a lot of
1:10:59
debt like I I paid off my car I I don't have that much in student lo I only I only actually had to pay out of like
1:11:05
personally for Like Us One Singular semester of college I'm incredibly lucky there free college it's great I
1:11:11
recommend it but like I don't know I I don't have any but
1:11:16
I guess legally speaking I don't have very much income either which is weird because I can show them a contract that
1:11:21
says hey I'm going to make this much this year oh because you're not a W2
1:11:27
employee yeah yeah go yeah see that is so strange like a W2 employee you can
1:11:32
just fire one of those people and then like yeah there's absolutely no more stability being W2 than being contract
1:11:39
well maybe a little bit more because with contract they can just say yeah you're done and they tend to do that maybe more often as a contract employee
1:11:45
versus a W2 but W if the contract has a fixed date so if Leander decided not to renew my contract I would at least know
1:11:51
when that's going to happen you know right I think he's going to surprise you with that well you just need to ask L
1:11:58
key to make you a W2 employee and quadruple your rate just ask I'm sure he'll be it's the holiday season you
1:12:05
know my my renewal is coming up maybe maybe he'll feel generous yeah maybe we can find some
1:12:10
more stuff for you to do for me too send you some more money although that doesn't really matter because it doesn't matter last two years yeah that's right
1:12:17
that's right okay anyway all right well more on that later I'd also be
1:12:23
curious to hear like what places in Ohio are good places to invest because if aran's not a good place it's like I hear
1:12:28
there are great places in Ohio I don't know of any of them but it's probably a good place to invest because you have a lot of cheap property that you can
1:12:34
renovate and turn around but it's not a great place to live it's only I mean that's only really true at least in my
1:12:39
limited understanding it's only really true if the place is growing if it's not growing buying a cheap house in a place
1:12:45
that's not growing is not a good idea because people don't want to move there like you want to get a cheap house could
1:12:50
be growing by one well I'll buy a house fixed up it's to you oh wait I can't trust your income I
1:12:58
wouldn't mean that I can't trust your income I can't can't to you all right
1:13:03
who's next is it me yeah okay God there's so much stuff I could talk
1:13:11
about well first of all I'll before I do my last pack pick I'll caveat with one small tangent I'm having an absolute
1:13:18
horrible time trying to figure out whether or not I want the 16-inch MacBook Pro or the 14-inch MacBook Pro
1:13:24
it is a terribly tough decision you know I've seen so many benchmarks that show
1:13:31
that the 14inch throttles because of its thermal issues and then I've seen some
1:13:36
videos where people are like this is not really that big of a problem and they'll do a bunch of benchmarks in like the
1:13:42
like the 14-inch performs almost on par with the 16-inch and so I'm like I don't know
1:13:47
what to believe I don't know what's true anymore and I was hoping that maxtech um would do a video comparing
1:13:54
the 14-inch MacBook Pro to the 16-in like they did with the M3 but they didn't do one which is surprising
1:14:01
because I'm sure I can't be the only person wondering about this and so you have to kind of go off of the M3 videos
1:14:07
that exist out there and like in a bunch of tests that I saw for the M3 again the
1:14:13
14inch seems to do better or the 16-inch and the 14-inch throttles because it's just too small to cool itself and Apple
1:14:20
has like this devious scheme in place now leave at the TC to get get the gravy
1:14:25
man he always knows how to get the gravy so if you want to get the um
1:14:32
unbend well let me let me rephrase this if you want to get the bend um M4 Max
1:14:39
MacBook Pro you were limited to 32 gigabyt of ram you could only go past
1:14:47
that if you get the unbin version so now you have to upgrade your RAM to 48 GB
1:14:53
and you have to upgrade your CP CPU to the 16 core uh CPU 40 core GPU so if I
1:15:01
was like well I'll just get the bin version because it may be um too much power to get the unbin version in the
1:15:07
14-inch MacBook Pro but now you're limited on RAM and I don't want to be limited on RAM I want to get 64 gabt of
1:15:13
ram so I kind of have to either get like this neutered version or I have to get
1:15:19
the ultra powerful version and I really don't know what to do man uh this 16in
1:15:25
has the bigger screen obviously but and the better Cooling and it does perform better in some benchmarks that I've seen
1:15:32
and in some of the Benchmark tests I've seen it performs way better but then in others it seems to do not really any
1:15:37
better than the 14inch and so I'm agonizing over this decision I really just don't know what to do and I want to
1:15:44
buy it in January which is right around the corner I'm also on the fence on whether or not to get the 13-in iPad Pro
1:15:51
or the 11in iPad Pro these are all very first world problems yes I'm going to be
1:15:57
dropping a lot of cash but it's been a long time since I've upgraded any of my Apple stuff so I'm like okay you got
1:16:03
every once in a while you got to perk down the money and you know get something new I mean my personal opinion I would go big laptop small iPad I've
1:16:10
always been a big laptop person like ever since I got my first laptop in 2006 which typically was not my first
1:16:15
computer but my first laptop I had a 15-inch like Acer PC laptop you know then I I I've just always been on the
1:16:21
larger laptop side like you know 15-in MacBook Pro and when you start with like a PC laptop it just it
1:16:31
it just gets you used to the to the size and weight cuz like a 14inch PC laptop
1:16:36
is heavier than a 16-inch MacBook Pro but the problem is that it's so heavy man I mean it really is a lot heavier
1:16:43
the 16-inch MacBook Pro I think is like maybe a pound and a half heavier than the 14inch really I think so it's at
1:16:49
least a pound and I'm so tired of
1:16:54
carrying this big laptop all over the place it's super heavy it just makes me not want to bring it places because it's
1:16:59
so heavy um so I think in in that respect like you're get a big laptop get
1:17:05
the small iPad argument actually makes sense because when you travel you could just take the iPad instead of the laptop
1:17:10
but I know I'm going to upgrade again when the OLED MacBook Pros come out so I'm like maybe I should just try the
1:17:15
14inch for a couple years and just see how I like it but it really kills me to
1:17:24
spend money on something with a higher level of performance on paper that you can't utilize because its cooling system is so
1:17:33
inefficient that you're essentially paying for Speed that you can't use that
1:17:38
is like a thorn in my side I really just can't I can't get myself think that
1:17:44
you're paying for Speed that you can't use when you buy an expensive laptop and you only make like one video on an
1:17:49
average of every other month well you know I I'm going to be getting back into the YouTube channel so none of that
1:17:55
matters anymore 2025 it's all going live it's going to happen it's all happening in 2025 that's when you're right it's
1:18:01
it's a little over a pound heavier yeah I mean it doesn't sound like a lot but I once you've lifted it go to yeah lift it
1:18:10
and you'll see it it is it is it is bigger and I I have big aspirations
1:18:15
Griffin we know the reality let's not mess with the fantasy I have big aspirations at getting back into the
1:18:21
YouTube game after what 10 years of kind of doing it here and there and uh I want
1:18:28
to do it man I really do want to do it I want to make it happen and to be honest I probably don't need anything I could
1:18:34
probably get away with my M1 Max MacBook Pro which is already terrific for probably doing most of what I want to do
1:18:40
but the discounts available to me now the tariffs are looming the money's
1:18:45
burning the hole in my pocket and tariff and I want to I want to upgrade while I
1:18:51
still can because I don't know that I'll always have this discount and dude it's a huge discount I mean if I spec it the
1:18:56
way I want it would go from $5,000 to $3,600 that's how big the discount is it
1:19:03
is a massive savings 25% off you know and so yeah that's exactly right we got
1:19:09
caveman from the chat he he knows what he knows the philosophy it's not about what you need Griffin it's about having
1:19:17
the best about having the best at Apple makes can I at least say that like even with regards to the iPad even feder Rico
1:19:24
T the iPad guy when you think of person who loves the iPad who does a lot of
1:19:30
stuff with the iPad much more stuff on the iPad than you would do and I think you'll even admit that even he chose the
1:19:36
11-in iPad over the 13inch iPad because it's just much more comfortable for that form and and for that reason I think I'm
1:19:42
going to just trust what everyone's saying and just go with the 11 inch not to mention the the 13inch is $300 more
1:19:48
which is a steep price to pay for just 2 in of screen I mean it's the same in every other respect so there's really
1:19:54
really no other benefit to getting the bigger iPad and and you're right I mean
1:20:00
I I I'm not even going to make this thing sweat I mean I I use it for some
1:20:05
light duty web browsing and for watching videos at night um and the only reason
1:20:12
I'm even getting it is because I have a discount on it so I'm like okay well it makes sense to get the pro because it would be almost the same price as the
1:20:18
air so I might as well just get that one since the discounts available to me um by the way thank you to um everyone who
1:20:25
listens to the show who's helped me get a discount like we have um quite a few gen geni who have extended their
1:20:32
discounts to me which I I really gratefully uh I'm very grateful for and I appreciate all of you giving me the hookup um super nice of you to make that
1:20:39
available to me and super helpful because like $55,000 for a laptop o that
1:20:45
is that's a lot that's a lot of money not sure I would buy it without a discount but anyway agonizing over that
1:20:51
decision is my anti-pick um last pick of the year another
1:20:57
show I kind of forced myself to endure um I've been watching Rick and Morty
1:21:04
have you guys ever seen Rick and Morty dude it is watched okay it's I am
1:21:10
actually enjoying it but the exact same critique I have of Rick and Morty I have of what we do in the shadows where it's
1:21:16
wildly creative completely original and I am me though I am enjoying it it's
1:21:22
supposed to be a comedy and I never actually laugh at anything so I don't know if it's a problem with me or a
1:21:28
problem with these shows that are so they these these creators have become so
1:21:34
esoteric like they're almost like Johnny IES where they're so good at what they do that their tastes have been elevated
1:21:39
to a degree where they're making things that are only funny to them but normal people don't actually get what's going on or find them funny anymore like
1:21:45
Johnny I and his Creations it's like dude we don't need something thinner we don't need something with less por just because you want to have symmetry like
1:21:52
it needs to actually be useful you know like feel like maybe we've reached this point with some of these shows and as much as I'm enjoying Rick and Morty and
1:21:58
it is super creative and it's got a cult following and I do find myself strangely
1:22:05
compelled to continue watching it even though I would say I'm only enjoying it at maybe at 6.5 out of a 10 I still
1:22:13
continue watching it and and and I find the story lines engaging and amusing and
1:22:20
and entertaining but I just never laugh at the show and I thought it was supposed to be comedy so I don't know
1:22:25
what's going on but I've been I've been digging into Rick and Morty I think I'm on season 3 now um so I'm like maybe
1:22:33
almost halfway through their Seasons but okay so caveman from the chat saying
1:22:39
the first few seasons are good and then it got a little on itself after season 4 so apparently I'm on the good ones and
1:22:45
I'm still not laughing and I just don't know why and but I am still watching it and I have really been enjoying it in
1:22:53
2024 the Rick and Morty Colt Bros are a little agitating to me it's like I feel
1:23:00
like sometimes these shows their idea of funny is taking things over the top and presenting
1:23:09
situations and language in an over-the-top manner because they think that just being crazy or kooky or over
1:23:15
the top is funny but it's actually not like being funny is being funny like I saw a video on Tik Tok yesterday it was
1:23:24
Martin Short and Conan O'Brien and Conan O'Brien I mean first of all these guys go way back and I love Martin Short um
1:23:33
he brought um Martin Short on and he was like you know I just have to say that I
1:23:38
I you I've only had you on for like mirror moments and you've already insulted me I don't appreciate that you did that and Martin Short said I didn't
1:23:44
insult you I just said that you look like um a freeze dried version of Prince
1:23:49
Henry I was like dude that's funny and like they both erupted in laughter and I was like that's actually funny to me so
1:23:56
maybe it's just that the comedy doesn't suit my tastes I don't know but whatever it is I just sit there kind of like
1:24:02
lightly smiling but it goes no F farther than that and I'm sad about that even
1:24:07
though I am still enjoying the shows well to that I would say that
1:24:13
after you finish smiling friends or even if you just want to give up and like try something else I recommend no sorry Rick
1:24:20
and Morty I I Rick and Morty for myself after you finish riing Morty or whether
1:24:27
you give up on it or not after that I would I would recommend you watch smiling friends it's much shorter the episodes are only like 10 minutes max
1:24:34
there's only like two seasons and like a few specials out right now smiling oh yeah I've seen this show okay it's it's
1:24:39
incredibly dense like to the point where like you you might like genuinely want to go back and like rewatch them like
1:24:45
two or three times just like take it all in it's it's incredibly fast-paced I think I enjoy it much more than Rick and
1:24:51
Morty I think I tried watching this is on HBO it only has two seasons I guess huh yeah okay no I didn't try watching
1:24:59
this it's sort of a similar sort of like pallet of humor but okay you'll know
1:25:05
within the first episode whether you like it or not really I mean there's just so much very consistent okay I'll give it a try I'll give it a try I used
1:25:11
to watch aquatine Hunger Force but again one of those shows that is just weird
1:25:18
and amusing because of its weirdness but not actually funny I just wish I could
1:25:24
find something that actually made me laugh I think the last thing that really made me laugh was maybe like Dave
1:25:30
Chappelle comedy from like 10 years ago the Dave Chappelle show was one of the
1:25:36
last actual shows that had me actually laughing and even still I see those
1:25:42
sketches pop up on Tik Tok every once in a while where the new like the new generation is sharing those sketches and
1:25:48
like like the um the Charlie Murphy stories about um Prince and stuff those
1:25:54
were actually funny but yeah all right now we're getting
1:25:59
into drug commentary in the chat which I can't read oh dear I don't like I guess
1:26:05
I guess it's like my wife says when I make a joke and I'm I'm like well I thought that was funny I don't know why you didn't she's like I'm laughing on
1:26:11
the inside I'm like well maybe your inside should tell your face because you don't look like you're having a good
1:26:18
time cuz sometimes I mean my wife gets some good material some of the jokes that I tell I'm like that that was that
1:26:25
was that was you know gold tier quality and just nothing like the face is just totally blank and I'm like how could you
1:26:32
not laugh at that I'm laughing on the inside okay I want some outside laughter
1:26:38
though you know but the energy does change when you watch it with other people that's totally
1:26:43
true um I think it helps to watch it with the right people but I digress should we go
1:26:50
ahead and call it there or leis do you have one more pick that you wanted to I got a I got a solid worst of 2024 I
1:26:59
for sure for sure thought that when Griffin was saying oh you know just right there staring in the face giant
1:27:05
black cloud I thought oh obviously he's going to say this no no I was wrong it
1:27:11
was you're talking about buying a house I'm talking about Apple intelligence what a bag of
1:27:19
garbage I can't believe that we didn't none of us thought of that we can't let him get off the hook with this I know
1:27:25
it's still in beta I know that it's not technically ready for prime time but they're still they're still advertising
1:27:31
it to everybody as a feature of the phone so you know they they talked it up like it was the greatest thing since
1:27:37
sliced bread come you know it's the the main feature of the latest iPhones uh I
1:27:43
got a lot of questions about it over Christmas from people who are not even Apple Fans or really plugged into
1:27:48
technology so it's really I mean I I've been using I've been trying to do use it
1:27:53
a lot lately you know image playground I mean it's image playground in particular
1:28:00
is this far from being completely and utterly useless it's photo24 Edition man
1:28:06
a yeah well it I mean it won't let you use Apple product names which comes up
1:28:12
in my line of work it won't let you use people's names it constantly tells me you know add a photo from my like I want
1:28:19
to have every single thing designed around a picture of somebody in my photo library and It's oddly enough it's a
1:28:26
weird selection of who those people are I don't know if there's even a way to tell it no never I don't ever want to
1:28:31
use this person for one of your amazing Creations um you can as Griffin shows
1:28:36
showed us you can add Hitler to your photo library and then you can start to create something that looks like Hitler
1:28:42
uh and and the end result is always this like weird Pixar art crap you know and
1:28:47
it's low resolution you know some of the things have been okay it's always real like
1:28:53
squeaky clean and sometimes it's utterly bizarre still can't I mean I realize Apple intelligence image playground is
1:29:00
the only one with this problem but it still doesn't know how many legs a camel has doesn't know how many fingers a you
1:29:05
know the typical human has things like that um but it's it's not just that I
1:29:11
mean notification summaries you know Mar they range from like marginally useful to complete UT garbage we talked about
1:29:18
this last week they're creating fake news you know attributing this completely fake bit of news the BBC
1:29:25
inventing a husband for Joanna Stern yeah and I mean if you go no it great
1:29:32
and if you go and look on on Twitter or X at any given time you'll see tons of people like just basically posting the
1:29:39
latest ridiculous thing that that this has posted um jimoji you know jimoji is
1:29:46
kind of okay I mean I've created some of those that are actually all right you know not the worst that that one's okay
1:29:53
I I would call that okay um but remember how they said that Siri was GNA get smarter and I know like
1:30:00
the real Siri is gonna get smarter now they say that leis they say I was just looking at their web page the start of a
1:30:06
new era for Siri yeah I mean well at the very start yeah well supposedly this
1:30:12
natural language search is is here now right I still can't get it to like
1:30:18
constantly you ask it for the exact name of an album play something that doesn't even sound like it this to us you know
1:30:25
at our some of our holiday Gatherings it's like I don't remember what I requested but it was something completely normal and findable and it
1:30:31
played like something by an artist I would never listen to with a song title
1:30:37
that wasn't even close to what I asked about it was just like if I had taken a dart board a dart and just thrown it at
1:30:44
a dartboard behind my back like completely completely random result from it uh let me see what you know I I've
1:30:52
used some of the writing tools I've checked them out anyway I don't I think those are okay they're on par with what
1:30:57
you get with rewriting something in chat gbt or something like that slower is all doing it on your device and oh I feel so
1:31:02
much safer knowing that all my information isn't being you know pumped somewhere else I don't know if I actually care about that I would
1:31:09
actually when I'm using AI to rewrite something or try to generate a a different headline or something I would
1:31:15
prefer it to happen quickly rather than just sit there and wait and watch and watch so anyway I I mean I just think
1:31:24
overall the worst thing Apple released all year I mean just wor the camera
1:31:29
trash yes I think it's worse than the sure if it's worse than the camera button to be honest with you I I mean
1:31:35
that's a tight competition right there I don't know I mean I've had some decent results with the camera control I think
1:31:40
it's Overlook um the every time I try to use
1:31:46
the uh image playground and like I said you know I do this stuff for some of our social media posts I create something
1:31:52
and I I compare my results I received with uh image playground if any because
1:31:58
sometimes it it just won't accept it I mean like I put in something the other day I it was just a common phrase and
1:32:05
it's like sorry that language is not supported it's like it's the English
1:32:12
language okay and if you try to create something on iPhone sorry unable to process that
1:32:18
post you know and you go meanwhile you go to grock or you or mid journey and
1:32:23
it's like boom done exactly what you asked for I one of the things you know there's this today in Apple history post
1:32:30
right and for some of the social media we have to you know have an image well there's no image of of Steve wnc working
1:32:36
on Christmas day uh you know from 40 years ago or whatever doesn't exist so
1:32:43
you ask Apple uh image playground of course of course not it's not you know I I use the term you know Apple 2 computer
1:32:50
no sorry not not allowed to do that Steve W no not allowed to do that would you like to have a picture of somebody
1:32:55
from your photo library no so I go to grock and I say you know Steve wnc
1:33:01
working on uh Apple 2 disc drive on Christmas Day wearing a Santa hat
1:33:06
boom 10 seconds later four versions to choose from I mean and you know what it
1:33:12
looks like it it it looks like grock makes lifelike images better than any
1:33:18
other generative AI that I've used and I I realize some people are
1:33:24
uncomfortable with generative Ai and you know especially news organizations using it I mean we label them as AI we're not
1:33:32
trying to you know pass anything off or pull pull a wool over anyone's eyes right sometimes you want to make
1:33:38
something funny you know I there's all kinds of situations you know Tim Cook sitting on a pile of money right when
1:33:43
they have an earnings report okay great obviously not real obviously a
1:33:49
cartoon uh so I don't know man I I just I'm const L disappointed with the uh
1:33:55
with the oh and the other great thing is like like the the things that suggests like the replies in the messages like
1:34:04
what you would send to somebody oh come on really yeah like yeah it's like it's just stupid that's
1:34:13
stupid and pointless anyway R over here hearing you talk about it it
1:34:19
just makes me think yeah I the tool is always fighting you you know like feel like you're trying to like wrestle an
1:34:25
answer out of this thing and you could just go to Mid Journey or Gro and get it and those tools are built to anticipate
1:34:33
and give you what you want and I don't know that Apple will ever iron out these poor user experiences because
1:34:42
they're based on certain philosophies that I think Apple has and I think that they're also based off of a certain
1:34:48
level of protectionism like apple doesn't want to give you something that could make their brand look bad
1:34:54
and grock and mid Journey fake BBC News Headlines like that or a picture of w
1:35:00
doing something unscrupulous you know like apple has to maintain their level
1:35:07
of brand image and integrity or whatever you want to call it and mid journey and
1:35:13
SC they're Scrappy startups like they they just got nothing to lose it's like
1:35:18
when Steve Jobs left apple and went to next and he was like I feel like I entered one of the most creative periods in my life like all the weights and the
1:35:25
rules and the this and the that it just I I let it all roll off my shoulders I'm paraphrasing basically now he didn't say
1:35:32
any of this verbatim but and he was able to just go do what he thought he should do to make next and apple can't really
1:35:39
do that like they just have all these constraints and baggage and so the stuff
1:35:45
that they have integrated in apple intelligence just doesn't work as well as their competitors
1:35:51
and isn't really practical or useful in many ways but does it need to be they've
1:35:57
got the numbers man they've got so many devices and they're going to make this the default software in all those
1:36:04
devices so people are going to use it just cuz it's there and so they know that and they only have to make it good
1:36:10
enough like it doesn't have to be the best people that need something better they're going to go to grock they're going to go to Mid journey and apple
1:36:16
probably doesn't care about that eventually they're going to add some kind of apple intelligence nonsense to Apple one you'll be paying for it in
1:36:22
some way and they'll get tons of money just because they have the user base but for
1:36:28
guys like us like image playground it really is photo booth 2024 Edition like I used it a few times and I was like it
1:36:35
it never it never is it's often not able to give me a result it doesn't know what to give me or the result is too cartoony
1:36:42
to be useful and so I just don't use it anymore so I'm with you man I still think the camera button is worse but I
1:36:48
am with you Apple intelligence the only good thing that it's done is send Apple
1:36:53
stock to the moon and so I use it every day well that's true Apple stock is
1:36:59
absolutely on a bender did you see the image I dropped in the called cast laack let's see
1:37:05
that's still my favorite one from Apple intelligence it is so
1:37:11
ridiculous what the heck you you gotta work that into the the image thumbnail
1:37:17
or the uh podcast thumbnail Griffin I will actually I actually think that's
1:37:22
quite a cute image it's like a it's a for those of you that that aren't looking it's it's a hand like a like a
1:37:31
surgical glove filled with liquid fully fully with like two uters for legs it
1:37:38
looks like it's a Pillsbury Dough Boy but it's just a hand doing a thumbs up with legs in a very cutesy room with
1:37:45
surrounded by hearts and glowing lights I actually think that's quite endearing L I actually kind of like that one I mean you know the the style of their of
1:37:52
the image CLE artwork you know it works for certain definely A vibe but it's
1:37:58
yeah so that one I mean it's not all trash that I I although you know I think
1:38:04
Griffin said it should be have a not safe for work warning on the image because it's something weird about it
1:38:11
but um I don't know so disappointing overall let me
1:38:16
wrap up with this we got to go but a couple quick things before we go first of all um I think we're we're about to
1:38:22
hit 13 years 14 years in February wow something like that I need to go look I I've lost track so heartfelt thank you
1:38:30
to everyone who listens to the show regularly some of you have been with us since the beginning which I always love hearing from you all and I always say
1:38:36
I'm not sure if the show is getting better or worse but I will say this this year has been one of the most fun years
1:38:43
I've had doing this show like I I you know we lost Leander that was obviously a big hit and maybe one day he'll come
1:38:49
back and Lewis and Iowa are just doing it by ourselves for a while which was
1:38:54
tough because even though we were having fun like neither of us could ever take a break and I think adding Griffin has
1:39:01
been great and also Griffin your help editing the show was a huge burden off my shoulders so I'm glad I was able to
1:39:08
trick you into taking that on um and I want to thank everyone who has just
1:39:13
stuck with us and for those of you who have supported us in the very exclusive cult Club you're not getting what you
1:39:20
paid for I I think I'll be the first to admit that but I hope hope that you feel good I mean it's true I I always have
1:39:27
big Visions it's the execution that's the hard part leis because I just don't have as much time and um but I hope that
1:39:34
you feel good about just supporting our show and helping us have a future here like podcasting is a tough business like
1:39:40
we don't we're not over here making millions of dollars and I think podcasting there's really only maybe a
1:39:45
few podcast genres that do really well shows revolving around Tech I think are
1:39:51
a tough cell a lot of people don't want to listen to to three nerds talk about an Apple device like they want to watch
1:39:57
a YouTube video or something like that but we I feel like this is almost like car talk like we use Apple products as a
1:40:03
vector to have a show where we talk about other stuff and to be honest like the stuff that we talk about that is I I
1:40:11
guess secondary to Apple or even the shows and the movies like those are often the favorite things that that I
1:40:16
think we talk about and produce like the best commentary and the stuff that makes me enjoy the show the most so I just
1:40:22
want to thank you all for listening and for hanging out and um if you haven't forked it over yet let me just ask you
1:40:29
would you consider forking it over five bucks a month you know six 60 bucks a
1:40:35
year it is money I fully admit that and people don't have a lot of money these days and also everyone's trying to get
1:40:41
your five everybody wants your five bucks but if you're gonna Fork it over why not give it to us don't don't give
1:40:47
it to don't give it to HBO don't give it to Netflix how much value do they give you vir none Netflix only give you do
1:40:55
they genuinely give you 90 minutes of entertainment every single week well
1:41:01
probably that and more that we got to scrap that argument Griffin because I'm not sure they actually think about that
1:41:08
well we might lose the five but um in any case I do want to say thank you all
1:41:15
and uh we love that we get to hang out with you and it's like uh hanging out with friends every week which I love I mean a lot of weeks we do this show for
1:41:20
free and I've done lots of episodes for free just because I love doing it which is why I think we're still here just
1:41:26
hanging out but in any case that's all the cult cast we have for you guys this
1:41:32
