Hey, what's up guys, Steve from Cult of Mac here with yet another photo editing app tutorial
0:05
and today we are taking a look at VSCO. So let's get started
0:10
VSCO is a fantastic photo app for iPhone and iPad and it lets you shoot some killer photos
0:15
as well as edit them directly in the same app once you've taken your masterpiece. The app is universal which means it works on iPhone and iPad natively
0:22
The extra screen real estate however makes VSCO on iPad a fantastic choice just for editing
0:26
any photos you like. Here's how, when you launch the app for the first time you should see 4 choices
0:32
Use your own VSCO account, explore, library and shop. Tap on the library button, then the plus button on the left side of the screen
0:39
You'll see all of the photos from your iPad's camera roll there. Tap on the photo you want to import into VSCO, then tap the checkmark in the upper right corner
0:47
Now you're in the editing screen. Tap the little adjustment slider icon to the left to begin editing
0:51
You'll see 4 new icons once you do, a paintbrush for filters, a wrench icon for more specific
0:56
adjustments and a checkmark button to accept changes when you're done. Tap on the paintbrush icon to see all of the preset filters you have on board
1:03
You can buy more than just the preset within the app. Tap on the ones you want to preview and your main photo will change accordingly to the
1:09
filter itself. Use the slider to the right to apply more or less of the effect
1:14
You can get some great subtle changes this way. If you want a quick look at all of the filters in one place as they'd be applied to your
1:19
photo, tap the little grid icon in the lower left, then swipe up to see them all
1:25
Once you've chosen your preset and effect amount, you can tap the left arrow in the upper left corner of your iPad screen
1:30
Now it's time to apply some more advanced adjustments. There should be 19 different editing tools along the left of your photo now
1:37
Swipe up and down to see them all. Tapping the exposure and contrast buttons allows you to adjust these parameters with
1:41
the slider that shows up to the right of your photo. Simply slide a finger up and down the vertical line to apply more or less of each
1:48
The straighten and horizontal vertical perspective buttons put a slider on the left of your photo
1:53
Slide up and down to rotate or tweak your photo into a different perspective
1:57
The crop tool works similar to most others you've probably seen. Simply choose a ratio on the left, then tap and drag any of the four corner handles of
2:03
the selection area to choose your crop. Tap on the checkmark to accept changes
2:07
The next icons down in the toolbar all use the slider on the right. Clarity, Sharpen, Saturation, Highlights, Shadows, Temperature, Tint, Skin Tone, Vignette
2:16
Grain and Fade. All you need to do for each of these is tap the tool on the left, move the slider to the
2:21
right up or down and then hit the checkmark button. The final two tools let you mess with the tint of the shadows or highlights, giving
2:28
you more interesting changes to the less obvious portions of a photo, making for a unique output
2:34
Tap on one of these tools near the bottom of the vertical toolbar on the left and then
2:37
choose the colour circle that appears to the left to tint the shadows or highlights of
2:41
your photo. You can also move the slider on the right to increase or decrease the tinting you've chosen
2:46
You can share photos to the VSCO portfolio area if you sign up for an account
2:50
Tap on the three horizontal dots to get more sharing options, like Instagram, Email, Tumblr
2:55
Google Plus and the like. Or save directly to your camera roll
2:59
You can also print the photo right from VSCO to any printer that works with your iPad
3:03
Now you've got a ton of ways to create unique, interesting and eye-catching photos with VSCO
3:07
on iPad, whether you use the app to take them or not
