New, faster MacBooks are released every year, but for most of us we can't go out and pick
0:07
up a new MacBook for each release. But that doesn't mean we have to settle for a slow
0:12
Mac. Today, I'm going to show you a quick way to boost the speed of your MacBook. Let's
0:17
get started. Before we go taking apart any MacBook, we need to make sure we're not working on a static
0:26
surface such as carpets or fabrics. Or even better, wear an anti-static wrist strap. Make
0:32
sure that the MacBook is completely switched off and that your MagSafe charger is not connected
0:37
So now that we're all safe, we're ready to begin. If we flip the MacBook over so that
0:41
we can see the bottom panel, you'll see that there are 10 screws keeping it in place. To
0:46
remove them, you'll need a Philips number 00 screwdriver. The three screws on the top
0:50
right are considerably longer than the rest, so it's a good idea to lay the screws out
0:54
around the MacBook so you don't mix them up. Remove all of the screws then simply lift
0:59
the panel up to reveal the MacBook's internals. The RAM can be found near the centre right
1:07
of the MacBook, which will be double stacked. Either side of the module, there'll be two
1:15
retainer clips, which need to be pressed outwards, which will then eject the RAM up, ready to
1:21
be removed outwards. Simply repeat this step to remove the lower module. Now we need our
1:31
new higher memory modules. To check what memory is compatible with your Mac, click this link
1:36
to be directed to Crucial's memory scanner. Now all we need to do is reverse the steps
1:40
we took to remove the old RAM. Slide the module in and push it down. You'll hear a slight
1:45
click from those retaining clips to let you know they're correctly in place. Once you're
1:56
happy with the upgrade, it's time to put the MacBook back together. By putting all of the
2:00
screws back in place, then power up your MacBook and you should now see that your RAM has been
2:07
increased and the MacBook should be snappier. So there you have it, how to upgrade the RAM
2:15
on your MacBook. If you do have any other how-to videos you'd like to see, let me know
