Tour an iPad-controlled Smart House [Video]

Take a trip through this iPad-controlled abode – where the owners set the thermostat, spy on loved ones, set the alarm and watch movies thanks to Apple’s magical device.

We’ve written about iPhone and iPad apps for the home before, but this video is interesting because it also shows competing home monitoring systems. Neat that the monitors also double as screens (great if you’re a covert bathroom TV watcher) but the looks and interface of the competitors just don’t stack up to the simplicity of Apple’s products.

The cost? The consultant featured rigged up one home for a whopping $185,000, but says that a bare bones system – lights, heating/air and music — can be done for around $10,000.
