Now Writing Kit will talk to other apps.

In addition to bug fixes (although not all of them) and some nice interface tweaks (sharing destinations now have service icons to help identify them quickly), the app now has support for URL schemes, letting other apps interact with it.

Apple Store App Update Makes Shopping Quicker Than Ever

By

Account-Settings1

The official Apple Store app has just gotten an incremental update, which now makes it easier than ever to give Apple your money.

The big new feature is Express Checkout, which like Apple’s official website, lets you buy items with your default billing and shipping information with just a tap.

The other feature — exclusive to the iPhone 4S — is a geolocation feature that alerts local Apple Store employees when you’ve arrived to pick up an order. This should make it a lot quicker to pick up your new MacBook Pro than flagging down a random specialist when you arrive, then waiting for him to go in back and find your item.

You can download the new update through the App Store.

I didn't need to enter my password to download this, because I already owned it.
I didn't need to enter my password to download this, because I already owned it.

I’ve never really like the way in which the App Store handles security. Sure, I like the fact that if my iPhone is stolen, thieves can’t run up a huge iTunes bill. But I don’t understand why I have to enter my password each and every time I need to download updates or previous purchases. These have already been paid for; why is this necessary?

Thankfully, in iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion, it isn’t.

New iTunes Security Questions Are Confusing And Can Be Easy To Figure Out

iTunes prompt for new account security questions
iTunes prompt for new account security questions

Apple recently began prompting users to select three security questions for their iTunes Store accounts. The move helps to ensure that you’re the authorized account holder if you have problems or forget your password.

The idea is well intentioned and a sensible protection for Apple and its customers. Unfortunately, Apple’s way of rolling out these security questions and the questions themselves highlight the old adage about the way to hell being paved with good intentions.

Apple has seeded a new beta this afternoon for iOS 5.1 to registered developers in the iOS Dev Center. Those who have been running the second iOS 5.1 beta can download this newest update through iOS 5’s over-the-air update feature in the Settings app.

While iOS 5.1 beta 3 (Build 9B5141a) doesn’t seem to bring anything particularly revolutionary to the table, it appears that the “Enable 3G” toggle has been enabled for quickly disabling 3G data.
