Jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich is one of the most esteemed in the community, having created the excellent Grabby, Liveclock, and Display Recorder tweaks.

Now, Petrich’s first iOS 7 tweak is here, and it’s an incredible one. Called FlipControlCenter, Petrich’s brand new jailbreak tweak lets you rearrange and customize the layout of iOS 7 Control Center, with all new buttons.

Don’t Worry, Spies Didn’t Really Steal The iOS 7 Jailbreak

We haven't Cydia on our iPhones in forever.

When will the iOS 7 jailbreak arrive? Although earlier reports suggested it might already be in the chamber, and proof that exploits had already been found, the iOS 7 jailbreak still remains elusive.

That should not be a surprise. We predicted it would take a full six months to jailbreak the iPhone 5s back in February, and it looks like we might not be far off. But what is happening with the iOS 7 jailbreak?

Well, a lot of intrigue. But don’t worry, things are still moving forward.

Hacker Magic Allows iOS Core To Run On Nokia N900

By

When you look at iOS, you’re looking at a user interface more than an operating system. Beneath the animations, transparencies and rounded-corner icons is the core of the operating system… basically, a bunch of ASCII text, similar to a Terminal window, that is what iOS looks like before it puts its face on.

In a rather interesting twitch, Winocm — one of the hackers behind the iH8Snow iOS 6.1.3/6.1.4 jailbreak — has managed to get iOS’s core running on a Nokia n900 smartphone.

Supercharge Your Infinity Blade Graphics Even On Older Devices [Jailbreak]

By

maxresdefault

There’s a reason that Apple usually invites Epic Games on stage. The developers’ mobile-only series, Infinity Blade and its sequels, shows off the gaming potential of any new iOS device by pushing its graphical potential to the very limits.

Infinity Blade games look beautiful no matter what device you run them on, but there’s a big difference graphically between playing Infinity Blade III on an iPad 2 and an iPad Air. If you happen to have a jailbroken device, though, a new jailbreak tweak will trick Infinity Blade into running at a higher graphical setting… apparently with little degradation of performance.

iOS 6.1.4 Jailbreak Almost Ready

By

6_1_4

Less than a week after Apple released iOS 7 to the world, the majority of iPhone and iPad owners around the world are using the operating system, and if the past is anything to go by, that adoption rate won’t slacken until only a tiny sub-fraction of users are left boasting out-of-date versions of Apple’s mobile operating system.

It’s ironic, then, that a week after iOS 7 was released, the iOS 6.1.4 jailbreak is almost done.

Jailbreaking Gets Back In The Game With iOS 7

By

Cydia-iPhone-5

In the final months leading up to the next major iOS release, there’s barely enough activity on the jailbreak front to fill a couple of conference rooms. But with the public release of iOS 7 just around the corner, it’s like the calm before the storm as hackers gear up for what may be the toughest system to crack yet.

Developers, hackers, and hardcore fans gathered in late August at JailbreakCon in New York City, an annual summit for the meeting of the minds within the jailbreak community. And while the conference’s founder, Craig Fox, wasn’t “overly pleased” with attendance for the third edition, he still considers the event a success. Why? It fulfilled its mission.

For the past few years, JailbreakCon has played a crucial role in providing face time to code jockeys from different continents who would otherwise only know each other by Twitter handles. Friendships are formed and ideas are shared. This year was no different. And as the release of iOS 7 draws near, jailbreaking’s closely-knit group of hackers and developers is getting back in the game.

CopyDock Gives You The iOS 7 Dock In iOS 6 [Jailbreak]

By

iOS 7 isn’t for everyone. With its brightly-colored, flat candy chiclet design, it’s an update that many people are going to find jarring after playing in Scott Forstall’s skeuomorphic playground for so long. In fact, given how polarizing iOS 7 is, I imagine some long-time iOS users might decide not to come along for the ride at all.

Even if you hate iOS 7, though, there are some elements to love. For example, the new dock. Sure, functionally, it’s exactly the same, but the frosty two-dimensional glass looks just so much better than the faux-3D nonsense that was going on before.

Enter CopyDock. For jailbroken iDevice owners, CopyDock strips out the iOS 6 dock and replaces it with the iOS 7 dock. Simple, beautiful, and free. You can find it in the BigBoss repo on Cydia. Now how about bringing Control Center to iOS 6, jailbreak devs?

iOS Hackers And Devs Gather For JailbreakCon 2013

By

JailbreakCon

As the public release of iOS 7 looms, momentum behind the world of jailbreaking has stalled. There hasn’t been a big jailbreak release in months and there likely won’t be one for many months to come.

But a mid-year funk hasn’t stopped talented hackers and developers from gathering yet again at JailbreakCon, the world’s only convention dedicated solely to the jailbreaking community.

Auxo Creator Releases Aplo, A Beautiful iOS Theme [Jailbreak]

By

aplo

After using iOS 7 for a couple of months, I’ve been missing some of the gorgeous iPhone themes that are out there for jailbreakers. You may think that theming iOS 6 is pointless when Apple’s next-gen OS is right around the corner, but one of the most prolific designers in the jailbreak community doesn’t agree.

We’ve highlighted Sentry’s work multiple times on Cult of Mac, and he’s most famous for Auxo, a popular app switcher replacement tweak. Aplo is a new Winterboard theme from Sentry that has been in the works for quite some time, and it’s drop-dead gorgeous.

New Tweak Adds A Bookmarks Bar To Google Chrome On iOS [Jailbreak]

By

I love Google Chrome—it’s my browser of choice on Android, Mac, and iOS. But navigating your bookmarks within the mobile apps is nowhere near as easy as it should be. Fortunately, there’s an awesome little tweak for jailbroken iOS devices that solves that.

It’s called BMarks Bar, and it introduces a handy bookmarks bar that offers one-tap access to your favorite sites.

UPDATE: Lucky Frame has provided us with some updated stats: Gentlemen! now has over 6,000 players on Android, with just 50 paid downloads.

Gentlemen!a brand new title from Scottish development studio Lucky Frame, made its debut on Android and iOS last week. It’s been a pretty big success so far, with plenty of acclaim from reviewers, a mention in a British newspaper, and thousands of players worldwide.

But it’s not all good news for Lucky Frame. You see, only 20 of the players on Android actually paid Gentlemen!’s $4.99 price tag, the company revealed to Cult of Android.

The other 3,000 stole it.

iFixit Walks Us Through An iPhone 5 Battery Replacement [Video]

By

iPhone-5-battery-replacement

Battery life on the iPhone 5 is pretty good when you compare it to other high-end devices with LTE connectivity, so if you’re having to charge yours more than normal, then you may need a new battery. But don’t worry — battery replacements are relatively cheap, and they’re so easy, you can probably do them yourself.

Teardown specialists iFixit show you how in a new five-minute walkthrough video.

OpenJailbreak: A Community Project To Help Keep iOS Hackable [Jailbreak]

By

Cydia-iPhone-5

Earlier today, we showed you a screenshot of what appears to be iOS 7 in some sort of jailbroken state. While the screenshot doesn’t confirm that iOS 7 has been fully jailbroken by any means, it’s a good sign that jailbreaking will live on in the post-iOS 6 era.

OpenJailbreak, a new project led by renowned iOS hacker Joshua ‘p0sixninja‘ Hill, will be the first community-driven hub of code and tools solely dedicated to jailbreaking and everything it entails. Not only does this mean that hacking iOS could become more of a public effort, but it also means that exploits will likely be gathered more quickly for jailbreaking future iOS versions.

iOS 7 Has Already Been Jailbroken, And Here’s Proof [Image]

By

Activator-iOS-7

Can it be jailbroken? That’s the first question a large number of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users ask when Apple releases a new iOS update — particularly when it’s a release as big as iOS 7. Apple attempts to block all the vulnerabilities that make jailbreaking possible with iOS updates, so there’s always a concern that the next will kill jailbreaking once and for all.

Thankfully, it doesn’t look like that will be the case with iOS 7, which has already been jailbroken.

How To Create iOS 7 On A Jailbroken iPhone Running iOS 6

By

Screenshot

iOS 7 has been released in beta form to those who have paid for a developer account with Apple, but the rest of the general public will have to wait. Apple plans to ship iOS 7 to the world later this fall, so for now you’re limited to seeing screenshots online and the occasional GIF.

Unless you have a jailbroken iPhone, that is. Here’s how to create iOS 7 on iOS 6.

The Evolution Of The iOS Home Screens

By

iOS

iOS has undergone a ton of small changes over the last six years, but never we have we seen as drastic changes as Apple has made with iOS 7. Don’t think iOS 7 is that big of change? Take a look at the image above that shows the evolution of the iOS home screen.

Jailbreakers have been able to customize their phones to look similar to iOS 7 now, but this is the first time that Apple is breaking away from some of the UI design principles that have made iOS so successful. The high res version can be viewed here.
