Apple might be planning to make it even more difficult to use your old 3.5mm headphones if you buy a new iPhone this year.

New iPhones have included a Lightning port adapter for headphones ever since Apple removed the headphone jack on the iPhone 7. That free dongle is about to go away this year, according to one Apple analyst.

Apple’s most recent iOS updates are causing problems with iPhone displays that have been fitted by third-party repairers. It was initially believed that unauthorized parts were the cause of the issue, but it seems there’s something bigger happening under the hood of your devices.

Even genuine Apple displays don’t work properly if they’re not installed by Apple.

iOS 11.3 breaks iPhone 8 touchscreens replaced by third parties

iPhone SE 2 could cost $399 just like the first-gen iPhone SE
Don't install iOS 11.3 if your iPhone 8 touchscreen was replaced by anyone other than Apple. Bad things will happen.

If you have an iPhone 8 touchscreen that wasn’t repaired by Apple, you must not install iOS 11.3. Your touchscreen could stop working.

This problem hasn’t been acknowledged by Apple, but independent phone repair companies are reporting that many iPhone 8 touchscreens they replaced stopped working after the latest iOS version is installed.

iPhone shoppers prefer bargains to newest models

iOS 11 Beta 4
Apple shipped millions of iPhone 7 units last quarter, maybe more than the iPhone X.

Buyers just aren’t going for the latest iPhone models. An industry analyst says nearly half the handsets Apple shipped last quarter were older devices, not the company’s latest.

Even worse, the Apple reportedly sold about 45 million devices, down about 13 percent from the same quarter a year ago.

Sorry, Samsung: Latest iPhones beat Galaxy S9 on battery life

Samsung used to brag about its phone's battery life, but now the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and 8 Plus all last longer.

The iPhone X and iPhone 8 significantly outlast the Galaxy S9 on a single charge. Samsung once mocked the iPhone for its battery life, but the shoe is on the other foot now — benchmarks indicate that the the iPhone X goes more than an hour longer than the Galaxy S9.

There’s already strong demand for next iPhone

By

Next iPhone
Many Apple smartphones users are looking ahead to the next iPhone.
Photo: Apple

Nearly a quarter of current iPhone users already plan to buy Apple’s next smartphone — even before they know what new features it will bring. That’s the most surprising finding from a new poll, which also shows demand for iPhone upgrades has stabilized at a high level.

Heavy demand for an unannounced product shows trust in Apple. That’s welcome, as the company’s reputation has slipped a bit.

Galaxy S9 vs. iPhone: Did Samsung beat Apple’s best?

By

Galaxy S9
Does the Galaxy S9 have what it takes to take on iPhone X?
Photo: Samsung

Samsung’s Galaxy S8 series, with its edge-to-edge display and features like iris scanning, offered smartphone buyers a refreshing alternative to an all-too familiar iPhone experience in early 2017. Now the Galaxy S9 is here and things are a little different.

The iPhone isn’t boring anymore. With an edge-to-edge display of its own, as well as Face ID, dual cameras, and the incredible A11 Bionic chip, iPhone X has made Apple the smartphone maker to beat once again. Does the Galaxy S9 have what it takes?

Check out our in-depth comparison to find out which is better.

Galaxy S9 can’t match iPhone’s 4K video recording

Galaxy S9 can shoot 4K video at 60 fps, but not for long.
Photo: Samsung

Samsung tries desperately to outdo the iPhone every year, but it doesn’t always work. Its bid to battle the iPhone X with the Galaxy S9 looks a little weak, with early benchmarks suggesting the South Korean company’s flagship is nowhere near as powerful.

That might explain why the Galaxy S9 can’t match Apple’s latest devices in 4K video recording.

Zens brings super-fast wireless charging to your iPhone

By

zens wireless stand
Did you ever dream that wireless charging could be up to 50% faster?
Photo: Zens

Ever since the iOS 11.2 update back in November 2017, the iPhones 8 and X have supported “wireless” fast charging. This allows inductive charging mats to pour 7.5 watts of battery-juicing power into Apple’s latest iPhones. Previous to that, Qi charging mats could only supply a pathetic five watts of charging power. To take advantage of this, you’ll need a charger capable of Apple Fast Charging. Zens has a few new gadgets that will do just that. Let’s take a look.
