What If The iPhone 5’s Design Was Inspired By The Magic Mouse? [Gallery]

By

iPhone-5-CiccareseDesign-01

Even when they are crazily off base, we’re fans of Italian conceptual studio CiccareseDesign’s work. At the very least, their mockups and renders of imaginary Apple products give some perspective to the whys and hows of the designs Jony Ive does choose.

Their latest mockup is of the forthcoming iPhone 5. What’s most interesting about the design they chose was that it is directly inspired by the Magic Mouse: not actually the worst idea for an iPhone, which like a mouse will sit in people’s hands all day. Here’s a gallery of the renders.

Cult of Mac Wants To See Where You Blog

By

ThisIsWhereiBlog

This week on our Instagram feed  we’ve created a new series called #ThisIsWhereiBlog to give readers a glimpse of what it’s like to write for Cult of Mac. As interesting as it is to see how Nicole Martinelli enjoys cozying up in an Eames Lounge Chair, and that John Brownlee blogs in the company of budgerigars, we’d love to see what life looks like from YOUR end.  This weekend we’ll be compiling a gallery of reader-submitted photos that reveal where they blog/surf the web. Do you blog in a secret cupboard under a staircase? On the beach? We wanna see it.

To get included the gallery, take a picture of where you blog  and post it on either Instagram or Twitter with the tag #ThisIsWhereiBlog. We’ll collect the best ones and display them on Cult of Mac this weekend.

40% Of All Photos On Twitter Come From iOS

By

Twitter-Photos

Wow. Between Twitter for iPhone, the iOS 5 camera app and Instagram, a huge 40% of all pictures shared on Twitter actually originate from iOS. In fact, it could be more, since other Twitter clients are not broken down by platform.

No wonder Twitter struck a deal with Apple to integrate their micro-blogging service into iOS 5. If all of the iPhones suddenly disappeared from Earth in some sort of Cellular Rapture, Twitter would lose a devastating chunk of their user base!

Check Out This Awesome 8-Megapixel Photo Taken on The iPhone 4S

By

one-dollar-iPhone-4S

Following its unveiling of the iPhone 4S on October 4, Apple published a gallery of photographs taken with the device’s 8-megapixel camera. The results were stunning — so good, in fact, that many criticized the company for editing the photos before they were posted. However, this awesome image of a one dollar bill has not been edited, and it’s amazing.

These Are The 10 Coolest iPhone 5 Concept Designs [Gallery]

By

unknown

If the rumors are anything to go by, the next iPhone will be unveiled sometime in the next month. We don’t know anything for sure about the iPhone 5 yet, but it seems likely at this point that the iPhone 5 will have an A5 chip, a larger display, a thinner design and (possibly) a capacitive home button for gestures.

That tells us a lot about what the iPhone 5 might be like, but not a lot about what it looks like. So for your perusal this weekend, we’ve put together a gallery of ten of the best iPhone 5 concept designs out there. Let us know which one is your favorite in the comments.

A Dozen Gorgeous Gelaskins for iPad2 [Gallery]

By

Leave it to Gelaskins, makers of some of the best looking protective “covers” for electronic gear on the market today, to have nearly 300 choices for personalizing your iPad2 already in stock.

Much of the artwork available for these striking gear condoms (printed on feather-light, flexible space-age material invented by 3M) is intricate, busy and wild — taking away, in some eyes, from the elegance of Apple’s iPad design.

Here, for readers’ consideration, then, are a dozen creations of a more subtle bent, which tend to both command one’s attention as artwork, while supporting a showcase for the latest iteration of Apple’s post-PC mobile communication platform.

Each iPad2 skin sells for $29.95 through the Gelaskins website, where you can see the whole mind-blowing collection — along with their vast inventory of skins for other devices.

Sexy Redefined The iPad 2 Unboxing [Photo Gallery]

Here it is the iPad 2. After spending long grueling hours in the iPad 2 line at the Apple Store inside of Baybrook Mall in Friendswood, Texas just outside of Houston — I’m worn out!

However, I thought you’d like some photos of the iPad 2 being unboxed before I head off for some grub and well deserved R&R.

So click the read link below and enjoy!

Feast Your Eyes On The Clamcase for iPad [Unboxing]

By

ipad_product1

The Clamcase an iPad case that promised to turn your iPad into a laptop earlier this year has finally arrived and it pretty much does what it says it will do. The company, Clamcase LLC, is finally shipping the device after a delay. It looked pretty awesome when I first heard about it, but I was a bit skeptical. So I asked the company to send me more information about it and they came through this week with a product sample.

I originally wrote a news post about this device in late December 2010 and then recently I noticed that several readers commented that they had not received their Clamcases yet even though they had been billed for them. I contacted the company and my advice to those readers is to contact Clamcase LLC to get a refund or to replace a missing shipment. The product is very real and the best case of this type I’ve seen so far.

The Clamcase gives a great first impression, but I’ll spend some time with it before you get to see my through review about it later this week.

In the meantime go ahead and feast your eyes on the Clamcase un-boxing pictures after the break.

Verizon’s iPhone 4 Sports New Antenna Design

By

Apple's iPhone 4

On one side, an iPhone 4. On the other, an iPhone 4. Spot the difference.

The new Verizon flavored device, left, has a new antenna layout wrapped around its exterior.

This is nothing to do with people moaning about “antennagate”. It’s a functional redesign to allow the phone to work with Verizon’s CDMA network.

It does look, from this photo at Engadget like the mute switch on the Verizon device has shifted a fraction of an inch southwards – which might mean that some cases and covers that fit an AT&T phone won’t necessarily fit a Verizon phone.

Otherwise, the devices appear to be identical in every other respect.

Amusingly, Verizon’s own web pages about the iPhone 4 are chock-full of stock photos of the AT&T version of the device – only the front page has the photo (annotated above) that clearly shows the refreshed antenna layout.

Apple Updates MobileMe Gallery App, But Still No Gallery Management

By

Apple released an update today to its MobileMe Gallery application for the iPhone & iPod Touch which brings it up to version 1.1.1.

The update features “various bug fixes” as well as the ability to download your photos in a higher resolution when using the iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi.

Despite these improvements, this little app still leaves much to be desired. Apple are yet to develop a way in which you can manage your photo galleries from your iPhone & iPod Touch. Currently you can only view or upload to galleries you have already created on you computer, and you cannot create or delete galleries from within the app.

As well as this, MobileMe Gallery is still not a universal application, so although it will run on the iPad as most iPhone apps will, it’s not yet been built for the iPad’s larger screen.
