The race to build the nation’s best 5G network ahead of the 5G iPhone’s launch is heating up with AT&T expanding its 5G low-band service to six new cities, including NYC.

AT&T now boasts 19 cities with some 5G coverage. Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., Detroit and Baltimore are the four other cities added recently.

A supposed “iPhone 12” dummy unit offers what may be our very first glimpse at next year’s big redesign.

It shows a device that looks a lot like an iPhone 11 Pro Max from the front, with a large, edge-to-edge display and notch. But it sports flat sides and sharper edges that are inspired by the iconic iPhone 4.

Apple could release a half-dozen iPhone models next year. An industry analyst laid out new predictions for the 2020 iPhone lineup, saying some models will bring the latest 5G cellular technology. Other models will stick with slower 4G networking.

Apparently, people not interested in 5G won’t need to pay extra for it. And some top-tier models supposedly will include rear-facing 3D scanners for augmented reality.

Apple’s highly anticipated addition of 5G modems to the 2020 iPhone lineup may not end up costing customers extra after all.

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that his supply chain sources indicate that the four 5G-capable 2020 iPhone models will be priced similar to the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, even though 5G components are more expensive.

Murata Manufacturing claims it has created ultrasmall capacitors that are one-fifth the size of current capacitors. With 5G capable iPhones set to gobble up battery power next year, Apple needs every extra square millimeter it can get.

Analysts at JP Morgan Chase published a new research note today claiming Apple is readying its supply chain to be able to launch new iPhones twice a year. Apple’s next-generation iPhone 12 lineup could introduce a more compact 5.4-inch model, according to a new report.

The handset could be a Pro model, despite its smaller size, with a high-end OLED display supplied by Samsung. And it could replace the 5.8-inch option we’re already familiar with.

The high-end iPhone 12 Pro Max, on the other hand, could get even larger with a 6.7-inch display.
