hey everyone today I'm going to be
0:07
showing you how you can easily run
0:08
Windows apps side by side with your Mac
0:11
apps using virtual box so there are
0:13
other Solutions out there to this uh you
0:15
could do Boot Camp or Parallels or
0:18
VMware things like that but those can
0:21
often end up being costly Solutions and
0:23
uh you know there's a better way and
0:27
plus with boot camp you cannot run
0:29
Windows and OS 10 at the same time so
0:31
the better way is virtual box now
0:34
virtual box is very similar to parallels
0:37
of VMware but the main difference is
0:40
that it's free and free is always better
0:43
right so to get this all you need to do
0:45
is open up your favorite web browser and
0:47
go to virtualbox.org and then on your
0:51
the downloads page you can find all the
0:54
downloads you need um right there is the
0:57
one for Intel Max
1:01
so you're going to download this and
1:03
you're going to install it it's fairly
1:04
typical process then from there you can
1:07
search for virtual box and
1:12
Spotlight and open it up so in Virtual
1:15
box you're going to see this interface
1:16
and it's pretty simple now what you're
1:18
going to want to do you're going to need
1:19
to have a copy of Windows on hand to do
1:22
this and you can have pretty much any
1:23
version of Windows and it will work with
1:26
it so all you need to do is click new up
1:28
at the top and you're going to get this
1:30
virtual machine Wizard and it's going to
1:32
help you set up a new virtual machine so
1:35
you're going to hit continue and you're
1:37
going to put in the name of your OS so
1:39
in this case I'm going to call it XP and
1:42
you can see it has it defaulted to
1:44
Microsoft Windows and XP now you can
1:46
choose 3.1 all the way up through
1:48
Windows 7
1:50
64-bit so you get a lot of different
1:53
things you can do so you hit continue
1:55
now you can change your Ram size and I'm
1:57
going to set it up to 256
2:01
and now you can create a new virtual
2:03
hard disk and then you can just hit
2:07
continue
2:08
continue and continue again you can
2:11
pretty much leave all the defaults the
2:13
exact same I'm going to set this to V
2:15
3.8 gigs so
2:18
here and I'm going to hit
2:21
done so you can see here it gives you a
2:23
summary of how your virtual machine is
2:25
going to look and you can click done
2:28
there
2:30
now at this point you're going to want
2:31
to put it in your installation disc for
2:34
whatever operating system you are
2:36
planning to put on here so in my case it
2:38
would be Windows XP so I'm just going to
2:40
slide my copy of Windows XP in now and
2:43
it should show up on the desktop any
2:45
second so you can see here right on the
2:47
desktop it says win XP Home G1 so that
2:51
is your disc in there and now once that
2:54
shows up you got to make sure that's up
2:55
there first you can click Start and it's
2:58
going to open the first First Run Wizard
3:00
so you can hit continue and you can see
3:02
here that it says my Host Drive selected
3:05
and it's my DVD drive and you'll want
3:07
that selected assuming you have a disc
3:08
in Click continue and then hit
3:12
done now what it's going to do here is
3:14
it's just going to start the virtual
3:15
machine it's going to go through your
3:17
normal process like a typical
3:19
computer and you can see here that
3:21
Windows XP startup is now running so now
3:24
the setup will continue just like it
3:26
normally would and it's going to load
3:28
all the files that it needs to load for
3:30
Windows to start and it's just going to
3:33
proceed on like a typical installation
3:35
of windows so once you have your
3:37
operating system installed you can just
3:39
select it and click Start and it will
3:41
boot up into whatever operating system
3:43
you
3:48
choose so in this case we're running
3:50
Windows XP Home Edition right here and
3:51
you can see It'll boot up just like any
3:53
normal Windows operating system would
4:04
so now you can see you have Windows
4:06
running right alongside Mac OS 10 now if
4:09
you want even more features with your
4:11
operating system to make it more of a
4:12
seamless experience you can go up to the
4:14
devices menu and click install guest
4:18
editions what'll happen now is you'll
4:20
see something pop up here where you can
4:22
install these guest editions now what
4:25
these do is they let you integrate your
4:28
windows environment more seamlessly with
4:31
Mac OS 10 and I definitely recommend
4:33
this cuz this does help things out a lot
4:35
so you can see there it finished and
4:37
I'll just
4:39
reboot now once my operating system is
4:42
rebooted here now I can go up into the
4:45
machine Tab and I can switch to seamless
4:48
mode and I I'll just hit switch and what
4:51
it's going to do now is it's going to
4:53
integrate Windows into my OS 10
4:56
environment now it doesn't look you know
4:57
the best you've got your task bar kind
4:59
of right above your dock here um but I
5:03
can hide the dock make it look a little
5:04
bit better let's go out of seamless mode
5:07
and back into
5:10
it you can see it looks a little bit
5:12
better then I can bring back up my dock
5:14
uh things like that so now I'm running
5:16
pretty much Windows XP and Os 10 at this
5:19
exact same time so I can click on the
5:21
start menu open up my computer and you
5:24
can see I have you know that open here
5:27
and then I could also be in safari
5:30
browsing around doing whatever I wanted
5:32
so you can see here I can run Mac OS 10
5:35
and Windows XP side by side right in the
5:38
same thing and I don't have to be
5:40
switching back and forth between you
5:42
know different operating systems booting
5:43
in between them like you would with Boot
5:45
Camp or even you know switching back
5:49
into back and forth between programs
5:50
like parallels or VMware and which cost
5:54
money so you can see this is a very
5:56
seamless experience and it works very
5:58
well um you know it's not it's a little
6:00
bit glitchy once in a while with as I
6:02
showed you before with the dock and the
6:04
taskbar um but overall it does work very
6:07
nicely and you can switch back and forth
6:10
between Mac OS 10 applications and
6:13
windows applications just like that so
6:16
you can see I can you know open up
6:17
whatever I want here and then open up
6:20
something on the Mac side as well and
6:23
they'll both work together so this is a
6:25
very handy thing and if you're you know
6:27
recently switching from PCS to Max you
6:30
might still want some of your windows
6:32
applications to uh run but you know you
6:36
rather use Mac OS 10 but there's still
6:38
some stuff you're Clinging On to so this
6:40
is a very nice way to kind of integrate
6:42
both experiences and to make it easier
6:45
when you're switching so I hope you
6:47
found this video useful and thank you
6:48
for watching
