hey everyone today I'm going to show you
0:11
how you can reveal the library folder in
0:13
your home directory so in previous
0:16
versions of Mac OS 10 if you went into
0:19
your home directory with your little
0:21
house icon you'd see a library folder
0:24
there's a lot of stuff in this folder I
0:26
use it all the time and I'm sure a lot
0:27
of other people do too specifically more
0:30
advanced
0:31
users and in Mac OS 10 lion the folder
0:34
is still there but it's hidden and you
0:37
can't access it normally and that's
0:40
because Apple feels that it's not really
0:43
necessary for most users which it really
0:45
isn't but I like to have it there and I
0:47
use it but there's a handy way that you
0:50
can reenable this in line the first
0:52
thing you can do is if you only use the
0:55
folder occasionally it might be easier
0:57
just to go up to the go menu
1:00
and click on go to folder and here you
1:03
can see I already have the path entered
1:05
and that is the little squiggly thing
1:07
which is the till day then slash Library
1:10
slash and then if you hit go it'll go to
1:13
that folder and you can access it but as
1:15
soon as you close this window that'll be
1:17
gone so what you'll probably want to do
1:20
is go into terminal and I'll show you
1:22
what to do so I'm going to go up to
1:25
Spotlight and I already have terminal
1:26
typed in so if I hit terminal and open
1:29
up terminal here what I'm going to type
1:31
in now is just one simple string of text
1:34
and I'm going to do type in ch
1:37
Flags space no
1:40
hidden space and then the till day slash
1:45
Library I'm going hit enter nothing
1:48
visually is going to happen you're not
1:49
going to see anything change but once
1:51
you quit terminal go back into your
1:52
finder and then click on your home
1:55
directory again you're going to see that
1:57
there is a library folder there and from
1:59
there you might want to you know add it
2:00
to your sidebar something like that uh
2:05
whatever and uh you can see that it's
2:08
all there and you can access it whenever
2:10
you want and I find this very handy and
2:12
I'm guessing a lot of you will too I
2:14
think it was a little bit of a bad move
2:15
on Apple's part to disable it uh but I
2:18
can see their point in it now the other
2:20
thing you can do is if you want to
2:21
disable it again for some reason if you
2:24
go back into terminal and you type in
2:26
almost the exact same thing which is CH
2:29
Flags
2:31
and then
2:32
hidden and then till SL
2:35
library and hit enter and you go back
2:38
into finder you're going to see that the
2:41
library folder is hidden once again now
2:44
you can do this with any folder so if I
2:46
type in ch
2:47
Flags
2:50
hidden and then till day SL
2:55
desktop you can see that when I go into
2:58
my home directory
3:00
the desktop folder is hidden now I
3:02
wouldn't recommend that at all uh but
3:04
you know it's an option and then once
3:06
again to unhide it you just had to add
3:07
the no in front of hidden and that's all
3:10
there is to it and that's how you
3:11
reenable the library folder in Mac OS 10
3:14
line and the other thing I'm probably
3:16
going to get questions about is my
3:18
status bar down here um in line that's
3:21
disabled by default you can't see how
3:23
many gigaby you have on your drive but
3:26
if you go up to the view menu and you
3:28
click on hide status bar or show status
3:31
bar in this case it's already there so
3:33
I'm G to hit hide it'll go away and come
3:36
back as you wish so I hope you found
3:38
this video useful and as always if you
3:41
have any houso that you'd like to see me
3:43
do make sure to send me an email and I
3:45
will do those as soon as I can so I hope
3:48
you found this video useful and thank
3:49
you for
