As convenient as an iPad can be whilst travelling, they're still not capable of being the workhorses
0:06
we always need like our MacBooks. So in this video I'm going to show you how to keep your MacBook safe whilst you're travelling
0:14
So let's get started. Before we even leave the home or office, it's a great idea to make a backup of your machine
0:21
Either using a time machine or simply making a copy on an external hard drive
0:26
If you need a link of how to easily backup your Mac with a time machine, click here

If you've got important documents or photos stored on your Mac, there will be nothing
0:34
more heartbreaking than if your MacBook is broken or worse, stolen. So what if it is stolen
0:40
Well firstly, you need to make sure that you've got a lock on your Mac. I know far too many people who have lost or had their MacBook stolen without any form
0:47
of lock. So pretty much anyone can open it up and get access to all of your details and files
0:53
If you don't already have a password lock on your laptop, go to system preferences
0:58
users and groups, choose the user you would like to add a password to, simply click on
1:02
change password and fill the details in. The next step is to add a custom lock screen message
1:09
To do this, go to system preferences and then security and privacy
1:13
If you've already got a password on your Mac, you'll need to hit the lock button at the bottom left to make any changes
1:19
Then check the tab that says show a message when the screen is locked
1:23
Then type in the message you'd like to be displayed. This way you can leave a number or contact address for someone to easily get in touch
1:29
if they find your laptop or if it's recovered. Last but not least, ensure find your Mac is switched on
1:35
Go to system preferences, iCloud and then find my Mac. Just make sure the box is ticked
1:42
Then you are able to track your Mac down on another iPhone or Mac
1:45
If your Mac is stolen and connected to an internet connection, you'll be able to trace it back to where you left it or pass the information on to the police if it's stolen
1:53
Now that you've protected your Mac software wise, we need to make sure that all the aluminum
1:57
is protected and covered. As safe as you might be in the office or at home with your Mac, you can't always ensure
2:03
that you've got your Mac's back. Installing a cover on it like you would an iPhone or iPad is a great idea
2:08
It will help protect it from knocks and scrapes and if you've got one that covers the glowing
2:12
Apple logo, unlike mine, it will help hide your valuable Mac from suspect thieves
2:17
If you're thinking it's just another PC. If you're traveling abroad, it's imperative that you take an adapter or charging cable
2:24
that has the same plug for charging your Mac. This may seem like a no-brainer, but when you're making sure that you've packed your
2:30
best swimming shorts, this can easily be an oversight. If you're using an adapter, there's not too much to worry about in terms of different
2:37
voltages as the Mac charger itself is designed to handle them. So there you have it, my top tips for traveling with a Mac
