this is Rob for Cult of Mac now I'm not
0:10
usually a big fan of the whole do it
0:12
over and over until you get it right
0:13
genre of games typified by the trial
0:15
series of games but this one has me
0:17
hooked developed by Red links and now
0:20
published by Ubisoft the latest version
0:22
of the game is the first on mobile
0:24
Trials Frontier you can grab it for free
0:26
now on your iPad or iPhone like all the
0:30
other installments in the series
0:31
Frontiers is all about piloting a
0:33
motorcycle with a ragd doll Rider
0:35
through increasingly intense and tracks
0:37
with jumps loops and environmental
0:39
hazards this game brings the motorcycle
0:42
rider to a western themed near future
0:44
dystopia tasking you with adding thrust
0:47
breaking and leaning forward and back to
0:48
control your Rider's balance and to make
0:51
him do wicked tricks midair you'll have
0:53
to get the hang of rotating your bike
0:55
rider right and left in order to stay on
0:57
the tracks as well and you'll get a
0:58
score based on your time
1:00
as well as the number of sick tricks as
1:02
you can pull off this free-to-play game
1:05
offers a forgiving energy mechanic in
1:06
the form of fuel for your bike you'll
1:08
upgrade your cycle over time as well
1:10
using inapp earn coins which takes time
1:13
you can also speed things up with gems
1:15
obviously the harder to earn current
1:17
currency of the game and it's a familiar
1:19
overlay if you played free-to-play
1:20
titles in the past and it doesn't feel
1:22
too egregious there were missions and
1:24
quests that frankly kept me interested
1:25
in the game longer than I have been
1:27
before in this type of game figuring out
1:29
when to lead forward when to lean back
1:31
when to just crank up the throttle it's
1:33
pretty fun in small doses and the
1:34
missions and bits of story break up the
1:36
trials just enough to keep from halting
1:38
all the failure that has to happen in
1:40
order to get better at the game the
1:42
visuals are gorgeous the bike's physics
1:44
feels spoton and every time I crash it
1:45
feels like my own stupid fault and not
1:48
an artifact of poor design or
1:49
unpredictable physics models ultimately
1:51
trials is a game I can play for a few
1:53
minutes at a time and I feel like I've
1:55
accomplished something and had fun and I
1:56
can move on and all of that that's why
1:59
it's our M Mac iOS game of the week
