Check Out Al Gore’s New iPad Book [Video]

Here’s a peek at Al Gore’s new book, “Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis,” which has been turned into a very cool interactive iPad app.

The former vice president’s book features text, images, interactive infographics, documentary video and audio commentary.

It looks like a great, immersive experience (and probably pretty scary, given the subject matter) — the climate change equivalent of the beautiful The Elements app.

Check it out:

The app ($4.99 on the App Store) was designed by Push Pop Press, a San Francisco startup by a pair of ex-Apple engineers, including Mike Matas, who helped design Delicious Monster. Push Pop Press is working on a Mac desktop application to create similar eBooks, which will be “very affordable” when it eventually ships. Reporter Brian Chen has more detail at Gore, Ex-Apple Engineers Team Up to Blow Up the Book

Here’s another video showing Gore’s app/book in more detail:

I wonder how much carbon is released making and shipping Apple products?

  • Figurative

I always knew fiction books would be great on the iPad!

Is it just me, or does Al Gore look fake?

Is it just me… or has COW, sorry COM, still not figured out that the iPad does not, nor will it ever, run Flash.

Why do you guys *insist* on running videos in Flash? Especially when the article is about software to run on the iPad. Sheeesh.

I would slash my wrists with my super thin Ipad 2 if I had to listen to robo-gore for any length of time.

If anything has Al Gore associated with it I consider it fake.

This is why there is no flash on mobile devices from steve himself. Educate yourself..

I like this. I have been producing a book about a viola for the iPad, so it was nice to see this example.

Climate change/global warming is a complex subject requiring one to see the big picture, and from the look of the trailer, this iBook App seems to be a good way to help people understand.

As for the posters with cognitive dissonance disorder, it is fascinating to see that they haven’t lost the brainwashing the Koch brothers and Karl Rove gave them.

Phil, how do you produce a book for the ipad?  I’m not a regular at this site, so if you’re willing, respond to my email:   I’m hoping to put together an ebook, too, on some work I’m doing on indigenous peoples.
