iPad 2 Launch Delayed In Japan

After the tragedy of the recent 9.0 earthquake and the resulting tsunami, Apple has decided not to launch the iPad 2 in Japan on March 25th.

“We are delaying the launch of the iPad 2 in Japan while the country and our teams focus on recovering from the recent disaster,” said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris.

There is no rescheduled launch date planned, and the length of delay will depend upon how long it takes for Japan to recover from recent tragedies, which have culminated with the threat of meltdown at the earthquake-damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Apple has been doing much to assist Japan in this time of crisis. Delaying the iPad 2 launch is another conscientious decision on Cupertino’s part, allowing them to focus their efforts on looking after the safety and well-being of their staff and contributing to local relief causes.

Frankly, it’s a logistically sound move as well. Given the trouble Apple is seemingly having producing enough iPad 2s for just the American market, the delay in launching in Japan gives Apple time to make sure that when they do so, they do it right and in volume.

In light of what has happened that last paragraph is both erroneous and tacky. The delay has nothing to do with low supply etc and they are not doing it so they can give those units to other places as is implied

The delay is 100% out of issues with roads being closed, staff needing to find their families and get their homes in order etc.

Then again half of john’s columns sound like they were written by an idiot asshat so i’m not shocked he would be so callous

An idiot asshat! Excellent, I’m having that.

Hmmm…. I think that the ‘idiot asshat’-slinger needs to take a few deep breaths, then go back and re-read the article properly.

“The delay has nothing to do with low supply etc and they are not doing it so they can give those units to other places as is implied.”

I don’t see any of that stated or implied.

I would argue John is not an idiot asshat, but then I look at the picture for “About the author”… and, well, yeah.

Written with great sensitivity for readers in Japan. Not.

    Japan can’t catch a break

Your last paragraph is very tacky Brownlee. People in Japan are running around wondering if their family members are ok and all you can say is the cancellation of Japan’s iPad launch means more iPads for the West. Talk about callous.
