Season two of the sci-fi epic Foundation draws enough viewers to propel the Apple TV+ series to near the top of the popularity charts for three weeks in a row. It continues to outperform nearly everything on any streaming service.
And it’s not only viewers who like the show — the current season enjoys a 100% approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
Foundation draws big audience to Apple TV+ week after week
Foundation tells the story of a band of exiles struggling to save humanity during and after the fall of a Galactic Empire. It’s based on Isaac Asimov’s groundbreaking novels from the 1940s and 1950s.
Season one offered gorgeous special effects and cinematography but was light on action. Season two kicked off a war while keeping the amazing visuals. And that combination rocketed it to popularity and kept it there.
Movie and TV search engine JustWatch releases a weekly list of the 10 most popular series on streaming, and Foundation has made that list continuously since August 21. That means that, for three weeks in a row, the Apple TV+ series pulled in a large enough audience to beat almost every other show on streaming. There’s not yet data for the current week, but the trend is likely to continue, especially with the debut of the season 2 finale.
Critics are fans, too
A large audience is what every TV show producer dreams of, but critical acclaim is always nice too. And Foundation has that.
Season two has a 100% approval rating from the review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, as noted previously.
And Cult of Mac‘s reviewer Scout Tafoya says, “Thanks in no small part to Isaac Asimov having written such compelling stories and ideas, the Apple TV+ version of Foundation brims with a million great images of things beyond our comprehension.”
