Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg thinks Apple’s $3,499 Vision Pro headset does not pack any significant technological breakthroughs. He claims his company explored all options used by Apple — but ultimately decided against them.

Zuckerberg expressed his thoughts on Vision Pro in a companywide meeting with Meta employees.

As reported by The Verge, Zuckerberg claimed Apple could not find any “magical solutions” to the constraints on laws of physics that his company had not explored and thought of. He noted that Apple made a design trade-off using a high-resolution display and other technology. This ultimately required the use of a wire and an external battery pack.

Further, Zuckerberg thinks Apple’s headset shows “the difference in values and vision” between the two companies.

While all Vision Pro demos had people sitting alone on the couch or by being themselves, Zuck said Meta wants to bring people closer and interact in new ways with each other with its Quest headset. And while it “could be the vision of the future of computing, but like it’s not the one that I want,” said Zuckerberg during the meeting.

The company’s vision for the metaverse is to make it “fundamentally social.”

Meta and Zuckerberg have been heavily pushing metaverse and its Quest headsets. Over the past several years, the company has invested billions of dollars in this effort. Co-incidentally, Zuckerberg announced the Quest 3 a week ahead of the Vision Pro’s unveiling. It features a slimmer form factor and delivers better performance.

More importantly, the upcoming Quest 3 will only cost a fraction of Apple’s headset, with a price tag of $499. The company also lowered the price of Quest 2 to $299, making it a great entry-level offering for anyone looking to try out a VR headset.
