Sending video from iPhones to TVs over AirPlay will get easier in iOS 17, according to a tipster. The goal is supposedly to simplify sending video to other people’s TVs. The improvement will almost certainly be extended to iPad, too.

This is one of numerous small changes expected when iOS 17 is unveiled at WWDC23 in early June.

Making AirPlay simpler

AirPlay is a system intended to enable a device with a small display to make use of a big-screen TV without the hassle of cables. It works with Apple TV streaming boxes, but many smart TVs support it (as does Roku).

It’s already possible to use the tech to send video to a friend’s TV, but Apple supposedly will make the process simpler in iOS 17.

“AirPlay will make it easier to beam content to TVs and speakers you don’t own, such as in hotels,” wrote Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in his Sunday newsletter.

No additional details are available at this time.

Other expected iOS 17 changes

This is just the latest in a long series of iOS 17 leaks. These point to a significant revamp of the Control Center, along with tweaks to the Lock Screen, Wallet, Dynamic Island and more.

These almost certainly will go from rumor to reality at WWDC23 on June 5. Apple’s developer conference traditionally brings the full details on the next iOS version, and the same is true for macOS, iPadOS, etc.
