NewQ debuted its 16-in-1 USB-C Docking Station Wednesday with triple-4K-monitor support for Windows and macOS. It expands opportunity for M1 and M2 Macs with limited native external display support (one for MacBooks, two for Mac mini).
Plus, the 16-in-1 dock offers a port for practically any need and powers your laptop.
NewQ 16-in-1 USB-C Docking Station
NewQ’s new portable 16-in-1 USB-C Docking Station offers 96 watts of power delivery to a laptop, 18 watts to another device like a smartphone, 16 ports overall, fast file transfer speeds and support for triple 4K monitors in macOS, Windows and Steam OS, the company said.
The station uses DisplayLink to easily extend connectivity to up to three 4K@60Hz monitors. Here’s how NewQ describes it’s new dock’s advantages in that department:
Some docking stations can lift the restrictions of an extended display by using proprietary display drivers. Two types of this technology are DisplayLink and InstantView, which can both achieve this by converting USB signals into display signals.
However, a clear advantage of DisplayLink is that it can expand two monitors at 4K 60Hz resolutions, whereas InstantMotion can only achieve one at 4K 30Hz, and one at 1080P 60Hz.
In everyday use, a 4k resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate will be noticeably smoother and clearer than a 30Hz one. Likewise a 4k resolution provides far more definition than a 1080P one.
Loads of ports
With 16 ports, the docking station meet most needs for computer setup expansion. Here’s the ports lineup, according to NewQ:
2x HDMI, 1x DP, 1x USB-C 3.0, 2x USB-A 3.0, 2x USB-A 2.0, 1x Gigabit Ethernet, 1x SD card slot, 1x TF slot, 2x 3.5mm audio, 1x USB-C PD Out and 1x USB-A PD out.
The device also sports fast file-transfer speeds, the company said. The USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 port enables large-file transfer in seconds, with up to 10Gbps speed.
NewQ said the docking station has “excellent cooling performance to ensure it remains stable and reliable.” Citing its “aluminum alloy shell, ample space within its case, and a high-efficiency chip,” the company said the device has excellent heat dissipation.
For audio, it features dual 3.5mm ports, providing 48K stereo sound.
