Apple is reportedly working on an “iPhone Ultra,” an even-more-premium iPhone that sits above the Pro series. A designer wondered if that might mean an iPhone Pro mixed with an Apple Watch Ultra, and dreamed up a concept device that merges the two.

The result is fun and gorgeous, if not anything Apple is likely to ever make.

Apple is known for its beautiful designs. A Mac is highly functional, but it stands apart from most PCs by also being a work of art. That often inspires artists to play around with Apple’s designs to see if they can come up with interesting variations.

That seems to be what Jonas Daehnert was doing when he created the Ultra concept. “I simply adapted the design of the Watch Ultra and combined it with a smaller Pro,” he said of his concept, which he posted on Twitter.

The Apple Watch Ultra launched in autumn 2022 with a look distinctly different from earlier models. It’s more rugged, with a beefier-looking exterior. And it includes a new bright-orange Action button. Daehnert’s concept design grafts these elements onto an iPhone Pro.

His concept might be the result of an iPhone Pro and an Apple Watch Ultra having a baby. “It’s just for fun, of course,” said Daehnert.

Yeah… no.

The information leaking out of Apple indicates that Apple is working on an iOS device that will pack in even more features than the iPhone Pro Max. It was quickly dubbed the “iPhone Ultra.”

Exactly what the additional features will be is not clear. Possibilities include a screen larger than 5.6 inches and Apple Pencil support. Whatever the feature set ends up being, the handset won’t be simply an iPhone mixed with an Apple Watch Ultra.
