Trio of new Kensington docks pack in the ports

Kensington used CES 2023 to take the wraps off a Thunderbolt 4 docking station that adds eleven ports to Mac or PC.

The accessory-maker also announced at the trade show a smaller, portable USB4 hub with six ports, plus a portable USB-C hub with six ports and a built-in wireless charger.

The latest addition to the company’s lineup of high-performance Thunderbolt 4 docking stations includes a pair of Thunderbolt ports that allow additional accessories to connect at up to 40 Gbps. But that’s just the start.

The dock supports one 8K monitor (6K for macOS) or dual 4K monitors, depending on the capabilities of the connected computer. There’s also an HDMI port.

Four USB-A ports allow the user to connect a mouse, keyboard and other devices. The dock provides 96W of power to charge the connected computer and attached USB-C or USB4 accessories

It also features 2.5Gbps Ethernet, an SD card reader and 3.5mm audio jack. The product supports macOS and Windows.

The accessory-maker also launched one of the first mobile USB4 docking stations. It’s small enough to go on business trips.

Kensington’s portable dock sports a single USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port that supports 100W power pass-through. Plus it features two USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports.

It addition, the USB4 dock also includes two HDMI 2.1 ports to support one 8K or dual 4K monitors, though resolution and dual-monitor support varies by device. The list of ports wraps up with a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port.

The MD120U4 USB4 Portable Docking Station (K32850WW) is available through the Kensington website for $149.99. It supports macOS, iPadOS, Windows and Samsung DeX.

Kensington’s new USB-C hub has six ports, but what makes it stand out from rivals is the wireless phone charger built into its top surface.

It offers dual 4K @60Hz through two HDMI 2.0 ports – depending on the host computer, of course .

The dock also features one 1Gbps Ethernet port, two USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports, and one USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port that supports up to 100W power for pass-through charging.
