We bet you haven’t seen a 3-display rig quite like this one [Setups]

Display towers — when monitors are stacked on top of each other — aren’t super common in computer setups. But they’re not terribly rare, either. From time to time we’ve even seen three stacked horizontally in the middle with two posted vertically on the sides. But today’s featured triple-display MacBook Pro setup sports an unusual choice at its base.

You can’t miss the 49-inch Samsung curved ultra-wide screen in the middle and the nice 34-inch LG 4K display on top. But at the bottom lurks a TidByt, which is a retro display for sports scores, stock prices and more. We don’t recall seeing one featured in a setup.

Third display in triple-screened rig is a rarity

Redditor CenTexCEDC (“Tex”) showcased the striking monitor-tower setup in a post entitled, “For work and play.”

For both work and play his MacBook Pro (not pictured) drives two formidable displays — a 49-inch curved ultra-wide Samsung with a monitor light sitting on top and a 34-inch LG ultra-wide 4K IPS display mounted above it. He has the two big screens on separate mounts.

For input devices, Tex uses a Magic Trackpad and a couple of modern classics — a Keychron wireless mechanical keyboard with a wooden wrist rest and a Logitech MX Master 3 wireless mouse.

Samsung ultra-wide and LG 4K

Because of its great width, the ultra-wide Samsung display features a 32:9 aspect ratio. It also sports Nvidia G-Sync and FreeSync technologies. It offers the screen space of two 27-inch panels and either a 120Hz or 240Hz refresh rate — friendly for gaming action — depending on which model it is.

The 34-inch LG 4K display is also an ultra-wide monitor, but it’s just not as big as the Samsung, obviously. It most likely features a 21:9 aspect ratio with 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution, though LG is still selling plenty of 34-inch screens with 1080 pixel resolution, too.

TidByt LED retro display

But the base of the tower is a little TidByt LED display. “You can do scores, news, stock tickers, etc.,” Tex said in answer to a question about what the heck the thing was.

“Tidbyt is a retro-style display that lets you keep up with the things you care about,” the company’s website said. “Spend less time checking your phone and more time doing.”

But “retro” doesn’t mean “primitive” (much). The little display looks like a tiny version of a stock or news ticker on the side of a building, but you can hook it up to your smartphone and select Tidbyt apps to display on the screen. The little monitor could show news headlines, sports scores, stock prices, social media bits, animations and more, the company said. You can even make your own app.
