Users report that the camera in the iPhone 14 Pro starts shaking uncontrollably in some third-party applications. The weird glitch occurs in popular apps including TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram.

The shaking only occurs when using the built-in camera of these apps. Strange mechanical noises from inside the phone accompany the shaking.

Update: This problem is fixed in iOS 16.0.2, available now.

iPhone 14 Pro’s primary camera shakes uncontrollably in third-party apps

Due to uncontrollable shaking, the primary camera on the new iPhones cannot focus on subjects. The stock Camera app on the new iPhones does not exhibit this issue. It is only limited to selected third-party apps, including TikTok.

The problem does not affect all iPhone 14 Pro owners – but a sizeable number of them.

The iPhone 14 shaking camera problem is caused by a software bug, and Apple has already worked out a fix, according to Bloomberg. Expect the bug to be removed by an iOS 16 update coming next week.

New cameras, new problems

Apple says the iPhone 14 Pro lineup has second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization, which could be the reason behind this incessant camera shaking.

You can use the stock Camera app on the iPhone to take photos or videos and then share them on Instagram, Snapchat and other apps. This way, you can avoid the uncontrollable camera shake and still share media in third-party apps.

Some iPhone 14 Pro users took their unit to the nearest Apple Store and received a replacement unit. You can try your luck, but if this is a software issue, you could run into it again.

iPhone 14 Pro series uses a bigger 48MP camera sensor

Apple is using a bigger new 48MP camera sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Shots are captured in 48MP and then downsampled to 12MP for more details.

Apple also lets you shoot 48MP RAW/DNG photos if you want to capture more details. But such images will easily eat up device storage as they range between 50MB and 100MB in size.

This article was updated with the report that Apple has a fix for the iPhone 14 Pro camera shaking.
