The iPhone 14 is just days away. Among the many changes that have leaked out: a redesigned display cutout.

The iPhone 14 is expected this week, but you don’t have to wait until Wednesday – most of the details have leaked out already. We know about the new Plus version, the higher-res camera, the always-on display and much more.

So why wait? Here’s all the leaked details on the 2022 iPhone.

iPhone 14 specs leak out early

Apple used to be famous for keeping a tight lid on its upcoming products. It could count on unveiling new devices and taking the world by surprise.

Not any more. Details on the iPhone 14 started leaking out before the iPhone 13 was even in customers’ hands. Over the succeeding months, a fairly complete picture has emerged of the four iOS models coming in autumn 2022.

That said, Apple might still surprise us with some of the details, so take this with a grain of salt. Still, it’s likely the big “Far Out” event on September 7 will mostly do is confirm what we already know.

iPhone Plus replaces iPhone mini

Among the most significant changes to the iPhone 14 series is the 5.4-inch iPhone mini being replaced with a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus. (Or it could be called the iPhone Max.)

The mini has been in Apple’s product lineup for two years, and never sold well. The 6.7-inch Pro Max is much more popular, despite its high price tag. It appears Apple’s solution is to make a cheaper version of the Pro Max.

The other three models in the 2022 series are expected to have the same screen sizes and general designs as their predecessors. There’ll be a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iPhone 14 Pro camera jumps to 48 megapixels

A big boost to the rear cameras is in the offing, but only for certain models. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will supposedly each include a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, up from 12MP in the 2021 models. This will enable 8K video recording on iPhone for the first time. The camera will allegedly boast enhanced low-light capabilities.

The two non-Pro models are expected to stick with the current 12 PM cameras.

More differences between Pro and non-Pro than ever

Better rear cameras in the Pro models are par for the course. But Apple is reportedly setting up some unprecedented differences between the Pro and non-Pro models.

Most notably, only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are expected to get an always-on display, showing users the redesigned Lock Screen in iOS 16 whenever the device isn’t in use.

Also, only the two Pro models will get the new Apple A16 processor. The other two iOS handsets coming this autumn will allegedly use the A15 from 2021. That said, the A16 will be a modest update for the devices that get it.

And, according to numerous leaks, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a double hole punch in place of the screen notch. It’s actually a pill-and-hole design. But recent leaks say that these will be visually combined. And, again, the “standard” iPhone 14 and the Plus will keep the screen notch.

The September 7 event invite has a “Far Out” theme, which could be a reference to satellite communications in the new iOS handsets. Whether this will be Pro-only or available to all is anyone’s guess.

Buyers of either Pro model will reportedly be able to choose from green, purple, blue, black, white and red. The standard devices will come in green, purple, silver, gold and graphite.

If all these leaks pan out, deciding between a Pro and non-Pro will be easier than ever in 2022. They’ll be very different devices.

iPhone 14 pricing: grab your wallet

Of course, everyone wants to know what the various iPhone 14 series models will cost. But no definitive answer has emerged so far.

One analyst predicted Apple will bend to inflationary pressure and up the price of each device by $100. That would put the base model iPhone 14 Pro Max at $1199.

But others say instead that Apple will not increase the cost of its upcoming handsets. They predict that the standard iPhone 14 will stay at $799.

But Apple could be splitting the difference. The non-Pro model won’t go up, but the two Pro ones might increase by $100.

The 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus has no analog in the 2021 series, making predicting the price more difficult. It’s thought this handset will come in at $899.

Stay tuned

Apple unveiled the new flagship iPhones each September going back a decade. It’s expected to do so again this year at the event on Wednesday. Journalists and bloggers will be in attendance at Apple Park in Cupertino – this apparently won’t be another prerecorded video launch event.

Apple Watch Series 8 and two more watchOS devices are also supposedly on the docket. Check out our roundup of changes and new features coming to Apple Watch in 2022.

Cult of Mac will be here to cover the launch, of course. But now you know most of the iPhone 14 specs already.

This article was originally published August 7. It has since been updated with the latest information on the iPhone 14 series.
