While all iPhone 14 series handsets are expected to sport 6GB or RAM, an increase over the current standard, iPhone 14 Pro and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max will also come with a newer and faster type of memory, according to a new report.

Phone 14 Pro and Pro Max could come with 6GB of newer and faster RAM

An article Monday in DigiTimes said the Pro models of the upcoming iPhone 14 lineup will feature 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM. That’s a faster and more efficient type of memory than what current and past iPhones have had.

iPhones 13 series handsets feature LPDDR4X. And that’s what the standard iPhone 14 models is expected to have, too.

LPDDR5 memory will give Pro-level iPhones better and more energy-efficient performance than that of the standard models.

All iPhone 14 models will feature 6GB of RAM. That’s a departure from the iPhone 13 series — those handsets start with 4GB of RAM.

iPhone 14 series RAM outlook:

  • iPhone 14: 6GB (LPDDR4X)
  • iPhone 14 Max: 6GB (LPDDR4X)
  • iPhone 14 Pro: 6GB (LPDDR5)
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6GB (LPDDR5)

In a break from past practice, only the higher-end ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max models are expected to include the new A16 chip.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first brought up the newer memory standard in March. And he also said the standard ‌iPhone 14‌ models will keep the A15 chip.

It’s now just about two months until Apple is expected to announce the ‌iPhone 14‌ lineup at its fall event. It could be a busy season, with new iPhones, Apple Watches and AirPods expected to go on sale.

The iPhone 14 series is rumored to include several new features and changes. They could include greatly improved cameras, a hole-punch and pill-shaped notch replacement, a new purple color and more.
