The upcoming “Pro” Apple Watch will reportedly feature a new design. It will be the first major design overhaul of the wearable since the Apple Watch Series 4 debut in 2018.
Its screen size should also be about 7% larger than the current models.
High-end Apple Watch Pro to feature a new design
The rugged Apple Watch Pro will join the smartwatch lineup this year as a new high-end addition. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman claims the new design will be an “evolution of the current rectangular shape.” So, don’t expect a circular display. And contrary to rumors, the sides won’t be flat as well.
For enhanced durability, the Apple Watch Pro will reportedly use a “durable formulation of titanium,” making it ideal for rugged use. Other changes include a 7% bigger display and body temperature sensor. The bigger size might make the high-end model appeal to only a specific segment of customers.
Battery life will also get a boost, with the new low-power mode allowing the watch to last for multiple days. The rugged Apple Watch should be aimed at hardcode athletes who typically use a Garmin smartwatch for tracking their activities.
This year’s Apple Watch could feature a body-temperature sensor
This year’s Apple Watch lineup will gain a new body temperature sensor. To avoid getting FDA approval, Apple won’t use the sensor to measure your exact body temperature. Instead, the sensor would detect when you are running a fever and recommend talking to your doctor.
A previous report detailed the Apple Watch Series 8 won’t offer any speed boost. Its S8 chip will have the same specs as the S7 SiP found inside Series 7.
All the reports so far suggest Apple is reserving most of the changes for the new high-end Apple Watch Pro model. Apart from the regular Apple Watch Series 8, the company will also announce the Apple Watch SE 2 with the S8 SiP.
