Apple’s svelte new M2 MacBook Air will be available for order starting July 8. It will then hit retail stores on July 15.

“Supercharged by the M2 chip,” Apple said in a press release Wednesday, “the all-new MacBook Air features even more performance and a new strikingly thin design, a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a four-speaker sound system, up to 18 hours of battery life, and MagSafe charging.”

M2 MacBook Air orders open soon

When the new MacBook Air debuted at WWDC22, Apple only mentioned it would launch in July. The announcement was light on availability details.

A report later predicted the M2 Air could launch on July 15, with preorders starting a week before that. Those dates turned out to be accurate, as Apple said Wednesday it will begin accepting orders for the machine on July 8 at 5 a.m. PDT.

Following this, the new MacBook Air will hit store shelves on July 15. It will be available in midnight, starlight, silver and space gray colors.

Apple typically starts accepting preorders for new products within days of announcing them. However, the supply-chain disruption caused by COVID-19 lockdowns in China apparently forced the company to change its plans.

Pricing for the 2022 MacBook Air starts from $1,199 in the United States. Students can get an additional $100 discount on top of this. The company will continue selling the M1 MacBook Air alongside the newer model. New MacBook Air is faster and lighter

Featuring a redesigned chassis, the M2 MacBook Air is both lighter and slimmer than the existing model. The new M2 chip also brings a significant CPU and GPU performance bump. Apple claims up to 40% faster performance in Final Cut Pro than the previous Air.

Despite the faster chip, the new Air can last up to 18 hours on a single charge. It also has a MagSafe port with fast-charging support, so you can top the battery to 50% in 30 minutes when using a 67W power adapter.
