Google mocks iPhone's lack of headphone jack then drops it from Pixel 6A

In 2021, Google made a funny video making fun of iPhone for not having a headphone jack. Fast forward a few months, and Google launched the Pixel 6A without a headphone jack. That sure looks like hypocrisy.

And there’s little excuse for it, as Samsung got busted years ago for doing the same thing – mocking iPhone for not including a headphone jack then dropping the feature from its handsets.

The circle comes full circle for Google headphone jack

Admittedly, the ad Google made in August 2021 mocking the iPhone is very funny. The Circle Comes Full Circle pokes fun at the videos designer Jony Ive used to make gushing about the smallest details of Apple products.

But the point of the video was that the Pixel 5A had a headset jack, while iPhone does not. So when the Pixel 6A was unveiled on Wednesday without a headset jack, it raised more than a few eyebrows.

Especially as the new handset comes a mere 8 months after the parody video. Google knew it would soon copy Apple by releasing a handset without a headset jack and went ahead and criticized Apple for doing so. That’s hypocrisy.

BTW, you should probably watch the The Circle Comes Full Circle video soon, as Google will probably delete it and pretend it never happened.

Google copies Samsung copying Apple

Apple set off a furor of complaints when the iPhone 7 launched in 2016 without a headphone jack. And its rivals were quick to criticize, too. Samsung made its own video mocking the iPhone’s lack of a headphone jack.

Then Samsung released the Galaxy Note 10 without the jack. Today, none of Samsung’s top-tier handsets have this feature.

Perhaps we shouldn’t give Google too hard a time for not learning from Samsung’s mistake – Samsung itself hasn’t learned. In 2020, Apple stopped including wall chargers with every iPhone. Samsung was quick to criticize. And equally quick to copy Apple by no longer including wall chargers with its Galaxy models.
