Soundcore’s new Motion Boom Plus boombox is built to blast out the tunes wherever you go this summer. The 80-watt Bluetooth speaker packs an array of new features designed to deliver “punchy bass and detailed high end,” the company said.

“Combining an IP67 rating with its upgraded woofers, newly added tweeters, more power,
and portable carry handle, the Motion Boom Plus is the ideal Bluetooth speaker for the park
or at an outdoor pool or beach party,” said Frank Zhu, general manager of Soundcore’s
speaker division, in a press release Monday. “We’ve also made it two times louder than its predecessor to help keep the party going, all day and all night long.”

Plus, you don’t need to worry about losing it in the pool or the lake. It floats!

Motion Boom Plus Bluetooth boombox

The Motion Boom Plus is the latest entry in a growing segment of the audio gadget market: Bluetooth boomboxes that let you crank up your smartphone audio for all to hear.

The Motion Boom Plus will compete with outdoor-oriented speakers from market leaders like JBL and Braven. Soundcore’s upcoming model will cost considerably less than competitors, though. JBL’s Boombox 2, for instance, retails for $499.95. Soundcore’s will cost less than $180.

Calling the Motion Boom Plus (or its competitors) a “speaker” is actually a bit of a misnomer, though. Styled like an old-school boombox, the Motion Boom Plus packs multiple speakers to cover the audio spectrum.

Dual 3.5-inch woofers pull 30 watts each and work in conjunction with passive bass radiators on each end of the device. Meanwhile, dual 1-inch tweeters (10 watts each) handle the highs and mids.
