iPhone 14 Pro could be the first to match iPad Pro (and Samsung’s new Galaxy S22) in RAM capacity. A new rumor claims Apple’s next flagship is set for an upgrade to 8GB — up from the 6GB packed into last year’s iPhone 13 Pro.
The memory bump may be necessary to accommodate iPhone 14 Pro’s new cameras, which are expected to include its largest rear-facing sensor to date.
iPhone 14 Pro may pack 8GB of RAM
iPhone has historically shipped with significantly less RAM than rival devices powered by Android. That’s largely due to the fact that iOS is so efficient, it simply doesn’t need as much as handsets running Google’s operating system.
But software optimizations can only go so far. In recent years, Apple has introduced new innovations that require more powerful hardware. We’re likely to see more of those with iPhone 14, which could see big camera improvements.
Recent reports have indicated that iPhone 14 Pro could pack a 48-megapixel rear-facing camera — Apple’s largest yet. Korean tipster “yeux1122,” via Naver, today claims the device will get 8GB of RAM to accommodate it.
iPhone 14 won’t miss out
Standard iPhone 14 models could be upgraded to 6GB of RAM — the same as iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, earlier rumors suggest. It is also likely to see camera improvements, though they probably won’t be quite as significant.
Of course, it’s always best to take rumors like these with a pinch of salt — especially when they come from largely unknown sources. But it’s not the first time we’ve heard that iPhone 14 Pro will get 8GB of RAM.
Jeff Pu, an analyst with Haitong International Securities, who has proven more reliable in the past, first reported the upgrade last December.
