The Mophie Portable Magnetic Stand folds flat but opens to hold up a MagSafe iPhone at a wide range of viewing angles. It’s a convenient way to make FaceTime calls or watch video wherever you go while freeing up your hands.

I tested the foldable stand with my iPhone 13. Here’s why I like it.

Mophie Portable Magnetic Stand review

Your iPhone can do amazing things, but holding it all the time gets tiresome. Especially when it’s playing video, or you’re on a video call.

That’s where Mophie’s mobile stand comes in. It’s small enough to be easily portable, and any model from the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 series magnetically clings to the stand. You can position your handset at almost any angle. Portrait or landscape — it’s your choice.

And the exterior of the stand looks great.

Hardware and design

When folded, the Mophie Portable Magnetic Stand is 5.7 inches by 2.9 inches by 0.8 inches, and 0.3 pounds. It goes easily into a backpack, briefcase or purse. It’s not really pocketable, though.

The exterior looks surprisingly good. It’s covered in a fabric finish that I quite like. The stand will look fine on an executive’s desk. Just be aware, the only option is black.

The Mophie Portable Magnetic Stand lives up to its name by being very portable.

Stand

Unfold the accessory to put it to use. It has two metal hinges that allow the viewing angle to be adjusted.

In my tests with an 6.1-inch iPhone 13, the screen can point almost straight forward, though you’ll probably usually have the display aimed upward toward your face.

You can point the handset roughly 60 degrees upward, but go too far and the stand will flop backward.

Stability

I found the Mophie Portable Magnetic Stand to be quite stable as long as the screen is pointed generally forward. Give the phone a solid whack to the side and it’ll just rock.

The hinges are easy to move, but can’t hold the iPhone perfectly still when I tap the screen. There’s just a bit of shaking. It’s not enough to bother me — I only noticed because I’m a reviewer. But YMMV.

MagSafe

Mophie’s Portable Magnetic Stand uses the MagSafe system. Magnets built into the back of the iPhone cooperate with ones on the stand to let the two cling together.

The connection is solid. I can carry the stand around by picking up my iPhone.

An advantage of magnetically attaching the handset is that the screen can be portrait or landscape. Or anything in between. The magnets don’t care.

The downside is that while MagSafe is built into all the iPhone 13 and iPhone series models, it’s not in any others.

Just so there’s no confusion, unlike most other MagSafe accessories, the stand is not also a charger. You will need to plug a Lightning cable into your iPhone for that.

Pop your iPhone into Mophie’s new stand and you’re ready for a TikTok marathon. Or a lengthy video conference. Or even knock out a few game levels with an external controller.

When you’re done, slip it back into a bag and it’ll be ready when you need it again.

Pricing

The Mophie Portable Magnetic Stand is available now on the Apple Store where it costs $39.95.

A non-portable option is the LOGiiX Stance Mag, an aluminum stand that holds the Apple MagSafe charger and your iPhone. It’s $29.95 in the Cult of Mac store. Or there’s the Mophie Snap+ Wireless Charging Stand ($59.95).

But if you want something even more portable, there’s the Moft Snap-on Stand & Wallet ($29.99). It’s not adjustable, though.
