On Fridays it’s fun to focus on computer setups with entertaining features whenever possible. Sometimes it’s seriously vintage gear. Or it could be wacky decor. Once in a while, an exotic location pops up. Today we found one where a brand new M1 Pro MacBook meets a kooky crew of bobbleheads and other figures under a really over-the-top camera rig used as a webcam.

New M1 Pro MacBook meets the bobbleheads
Clamshell mode
Redditor PunctiliousCasuist (Punc) showed off the new workstation in a post entitled, “Reorganized the desk for a new M1 Pro!” The title refers to a MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro chip, sitting to the left on a Twelve South BookArc laptop stand.
Punc noted the MacBook in space-saving clamshell (closed) mode rather than sitting open on a stand works nicely, despite the loss of screen real estate — especially because their Magic Keyboard features Touch ID.

Careful how you finish your desktop
The desk in question is a Fully Jarvis Standing Desk — hand-cranked, no less, though we could only find an electric one for our gear list below. The desktop is an Ikea Gerton tabletop that Punc hand-sanded and finished with polyurethane.
“I love my desktop but this was a horrible idea — polyurethane is an uncomfortable finish for a high-touch surface,” they said. “I wound up partially sanding it off, which helped a good bit. If I was starting over however, I would do Dutch oil instead.”
Desk shelf as monitor riser
Adding to the desk, a handsome Grovemade walnut desk shelf sits on top. It serves as a monitor riser for the 24-inch LG 4K display with plenty of room alongside for AirPods Max on a cool wooden charging stand, plus a house plant and other bits. Underneath, additional items, like a Nomad Wireless Charging Base Station, find storage space.
Peanut gallery of bobbleheads and figures

To the right of the desk shelf you see a peanut gallery of bobbleheads and figures. Bobbleheads Albert Einstein, Dr. Anthony Fauci and late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG) stand alongside a statuette of Asclepius, aka the Greek god of medicine, and a COVID-19 vaccine plush toy.
Makes you wonder if Punc is a doctor or a med student. Or maybe they’re in law. Can’t rule out physics, though.
‘Overkill’ webcam rig
Another interesting aspect of the setup is the webcam. It’s actually a roughly $2,000 Sony A7C mirrorless digital camera mounted atop the monitor with the help of a Dazzne Desk Mount Stand. An HDMI video capture card is attached.
“Jesus,” exclaimed one commenter. “I have to ask, how often do you get compliments on the video quality when you do Zoom meetings?”
“Seriously tho,” said another, “I hope it’s also your camera for photos and not a dedicated webcam. That would be hell of an overkill.”
