iPad Pro is the best tablet on the market, but it can be more. Add a stand and you have a pretty good desktop. And you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better option for that than the Lululook Urban Magnetic iPad Pro Stand.

Read on to see why I freaking love this accessory.

Lululook Urban Magnetic iPad Stand review

Let’s be clear, an iMac makes a better desktop than an iPad. But not everyone can afford both. And if you mostly need a tablet but occasionally want a desktop, then adding a stand to your iPad Pro makes a lot of sense.

Especially when the stand is as well designed as Lululook’s.

Hardware and design

Take an iMac, remove the computer itself just leaving the aluminum stand, then graft on a metal plate. There, you have the Lululook Urban Magnetic iPad Stand.

Add the tablet and you have something easily mistaken for a small version of Apple’s desktop. The stand has the clean curve of the iMac, and the familiar hole that helps secure the power cable in place.

A hinge lets you angle the iPad screen up or down so it points directly toward you. But the tablet stand has a trick an iMac can’t copy: the tablet can be easily rotated between landscape and portrait.

Lululook makes versions for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 11-inch iPad Pro and the most recent iPad Air. There’s even a small one for the iPad mini 6. I’m reviewing the version for the larger iPad Pro.

This version of the stand holds my tablet about 3 inches above the desktop in landscape mode. Or 2 inches in portrait mode. That raises the display up to near eye level, which is more ergonomic than being hunched over.

The sole drawback of the Lululook Urban Magnetic iPad Stand is that it’s not height adjustable. But then neither is an iMac.

The base is 4.5 inches wide and 4.95 inches deep, which is easily sufficient to hold the tablet stable. There’s very little risk of knocking it over.

Secure magnetic hold

The Lululook Urban Magnetic iPad Stand lives up to its name with a backplate with multiple magnets built into it. These cooperate with magnets embedded in the tablet to create a firm hold.

Very firm. Neither you nor your cat are going to casually knock the iPad off the stand. Removing the tablet requires holding the stand while prying the computer loose. It’s easy enough with a bit of practice but won‘t happen accidentally.

At the same time, putting an iPad on the stand is as easy as touching the two together.

None of the ports, buttons or cameras are covered in any way.

What I like best about Lululook’s stand is that it fits so perfectly with the iPad. The two seemingly merge into a single device. And the resulting desktop looks so great. Really, you can expect someone to ask where you got the tiny iMac.

And the design is right in every way. The iPad connects tightly, the stand is stable, and there’s that beautifully smooth curve.

Pricing

The Magnetic iPad Stand – Urban is $79.99 on the Lululook website. Or you can also get it on Amazon, where the price is $89.99.

Comparable products

Tough competition for Lululook’s stand comes from the Wiplabs Slope ($39.99), which also uses magnets to hold up your iPad, and has a pleasingly elegant curve.

Another good rival is the Satechi Aluminum Desktop Stand ($44.99). It’s adjustable and works with a broad array of tablets and even phones.

If you’re willing to put a slim case on your iPad, there’s the Pitaka MagEZ Stand for Tablets ($89.99). It’s as stylish as Lululook’s but in a very different way. And includes an iPhone wireless charger.

Those looking for more functionality in their stand should check out the Satechi Aluminum Stand & Hub ($99.99), which is portable and adds six useful ports.
