Save others the shock and misery of stumbling across your nudes by keeping them protected inside Google Photos. The service’s handy Locked Folder features is making the leap from Android to iOS “early next year.”

Locked Folder gives you a place to put sensitive photos and videos where are secured by a passcode or biometric security protections.

Google Photos is bringing Locked Folder to iPhone

After making its debut on Google’s own Pixel handsets back in June, Locked Photos was confirmed for third-party Android devices in late September. But it won’t be exclusive to Google’s own mobile operating system for long.

It was this week confirmed that Locked Photos will also be available in Google Photos for iPhone and iPad early next year.

Locked Folder is a little like the Hidden folder inside Apple’s own Photos app. When you place photos and videos inside it, they no longer appear inside your camera roll — or when browsing your library from inside a third-party app.

Locked Folder’s big advantage over the built-in Hidden folder on iPhone and iPad is that it offers a passcode or biometric lock. So even if you leave your phone unlocked, the content inside the Locked Folder is still protected.

Google Photos starts at $1.99 a month

Google Photos has sadly ditched its free unlimited plan for those who choose to use low-resolution backups. But you can get 15GB of storage for free, and its premium plans are affordable, starting at just $1.99 a month for 100GB.

A 200GB plan is just $2.99 a month, while the whopping 2TB plan — which also includes a VPN for Android devices — is $9.99 a month. You can save a little by choosing to cough up annually instead of monthly.
