A pair of adapters just launched by Hyper let MacBooks with an Apple M1 processor connect to dual HDMI monitors. Apple says the macOS notebooks can only use one external display, but users found a workaround. And Hyper built this workaround into its latest accessories.
There’s a basic HyperDrive Dual 4K HDMI adapter, plus a second version that offers additional ports.
Trick M1 MacBook into supporting two external monitors
Hyper’s new adapters deliver dual video output over a single USB-C connection by using both DP Alt Mode and Silicon Motion InstantView plug-n-play video technology in one accessory. One screen offers 4K at 60Hz and the second offers 4K at 30Hz.
Installing software drivers is not required. “Connect HyperDrive to your device via the built-in USB-C cable and you will see the HyperDisplay app on your desktop,” promised Hyper. “Just double-click it and you are ready to go.”
There’s also a USB-C port that can handle up to 100W PD for keeping the MacBook powered.
The HyperDrive Dual 4K HDMI 3-in-1 USB-C Adapter launched Tuesday from HyperShop.com and costs $129.99.

A second option has the same capabilities as Hyper’s 3-in-1 video adapter but adds more features. The 10-in-1 version boasts two USB-A ports, a USB-C 5GB port, Gigabit Ethernet, SD and microSD card readers, and a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones.
