iPhone users should install the latest system software update because it fixes a collection of bugs. Monday’s release of iOS 15.0.2 takes care of images that couldn’t be deleted, problems with AirTag and iPhone Leather Wallet, and more. More significantly, it  (and a related iPadOS update) deals with a device restore/update issue with iPhone 13 and the new iPad mini.

Tablet users can install iPadOS 15.0.2, which also came out Monday.

Release notes for iOS 15.0.2

Apple’s official release notes for the new update say:

iOS 15.0.2 includes bug fixes and important security updates for your iPhone:

  • Photos saved to your library from Messages could be deleted after removing the associated thread or message
  • iPhone Leather Wallet with MagSafe may not connect to Find My
  • AirTag might not appear in the Find My Items tab
  • CarPlay may fail to open audio apps or disconnect during playback
  • Device restore or update may fail when using Finder or iTunes for iPhone 13 models

Release notes for iPadOS 15.0.2

According to Apple’s release notes, Monday’s update for tablets fixes many of the same bugs:

iPadOS 15.0.2 includes bug fixes and important security updates for your iPad:

  • Photos saved to your library from Messages could be deleted after removing the associated thread or message
  • AirTag might not appear in the Find My Items tab
  • Device restore or update may fail when using Finder or iTunes for iPad mini (6th generation)

Both the iPhone and iPad updates also deal with a single potential security problem.

How to install the updates

Install iOS 15.0.2 or iPadOS 15.0.2 by connecting the device to a Mac, or to a PC running iTunes. Alternatively, an over-the-air update is also possible. That’s accomplished by opening the Settings app and going to General > Software Update.

These updates come a week or so after an iOS 15.0.1 patch fixed a problem that disabled Unlock with Apple Watch on the iPhone 13 series.
