Apple announced Wednesday it will open the Mac App Store Thursday, Jan. 6, the latest addition to stores already available for the iPod, iPhone and the iPad.

“Enter the same iTunes password you use to buy apps on iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. And within seconds, your new app flies to your Dock, ready to go,” the Cupertino, Calif. company noted.

When first Apple’s plans were first unveiled in December, CEO Steve Jobs said the App Stores have revolutionized mobile apps. ” We hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun.”

Apple said the apps will run on all Macs and the Mac App Store is available to Mac OS X Snow Leopard users as a free download through Software Update.

Like other App Stores, developers for the Mac App Store can keep 70 percent of sales revenue.
