Apple will ditch the 64GB storage option for iPhone 13, instead offering 128GB as standard for all models, according to one analyst.
Those buying a Pro model will have the option to choose a whopping 1TB of storage — the most ever packed into an iPhone.
iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max both shipped with 128GB of storage as standard last year. But those opting for the more affordable iPhone 12 or 12 mini had to settle for 64GB — or pay more to upgrade to a 128GB or 256GB model.
With iPhone 13, Apple is expected to get a lot more generous with its storage options. And there’s a good reason why you might want more.
iPhone 13 to offer up to 1TB of storage
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a reliable track record when it comes to predicting Apple plans, believes all iPhone 13 variants (even the mini) will ship with 128GB of storage as standard.
The two standard models will also offer 256GB and 512GB storage options, Kuo wrote in a note to investors, seen by Cult of Mac. The iPhone 13 Pro models will offer the same, as well as a hefty 1TB option.
That will be the most storage ever packed into an iPhone. It’s rare we see any smartphone with a 1TB option. But it might be necessary for those who plan to take advantage of iPhone 13 Pro’s new camera features.
iPhone 13 Pro to shoot ProRes video
An earlier report from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman detailed Apple’s plans to bring ProRes video recording — the same format used by professionals in the film industry — to iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.
ProRes gives editors more control during the post-production process, but like the ProRAW format for photos, it also takes up a lot more storage.
